1.0 out of 5 stars No Customer Service!
We have the Uniden cordless phone, and recently had some problems with the battery lasting less than a day on a charge. Consequently, I tried to call customer service, however Uniden only offers email customer service. I finally found a Texas number for them where one has to pay to call them

This is a far cry from Panasonic or Sony which both offer free,...

This review is from: Uniden DCX300 DECT 6.0 Accessory Handset and Charging Cradle for the DECT2000/DECT 3000 Series Phones (Office Product)
I work from home frequently, and spend hours on the phone so this is a crucial tool and one I can say I test thoroughly. I tried Philips: good, but battery life was pitiful and the sound was way too low. After that I bought the Panasonic Expandable Digital Cordless Dect 6.0 Phone System (KXTG8232B). I found it bulky and annoying in many ways. What did it for me is that it was impossible to use it with the Panasonic KX-TCA92 Comfort Fit Hands-Free Headset with Fold Design. People could not hear me, and I barely heard them. I thought the headset was defective, but it wasn't, it now works perfectly well with this unit. Hard to believe that a Panasonic headset would not work with a Panasonic phone, but it didn't.

Other points that make the Uniden a winner: voice is crystal clear, you can keep the volume of the unit low as opposed to both my previous phones. Design is sleek, the keys are easy to use but flush with the unit so you can keep it in your pocket during calls as opposed to using the belt clip which I somehow always managed to snap with my previous units.

The Uniden DECT3080-3 Answering System/Combo - 3 handsets comes with a voice mail, but you can turn it off if you have VM through your VOIP provider. The unit then flashes when you have a new VM; the Panasonic didn't have this feature.

The individual units can be assigned a name, which makes total sense when you use the intercom feature (try to remember which is unit #2 when you want to page your kids). This small detail makes it also way easier to use different phone books with individual units. We keep family-related numbers in the kitchen unit, and I am free to store my work numbers in the handset in my home office. If you want to copy a phone book to handset unit you can, and it takes a minute to do it.

We also like the customizable wallpapers, which make it easy to recognize "your" phone when you find it around.

In the end, we found a phone which delivers on the promise of digital clear conversation, without sacrificing volume and features. The pleasant and slim design only adds to the positive feeling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cordless Phone, July 19, 2008
This review is from: Uniden DCX300 DECT 6.0 Accessory Handset and Charging Cradle for the DECT2000/DECT 3000 Series Phones (Office Product)
This phone has many great features! It has the best style I have ever seen on a cordless phone and feels great in your hand! It is without a doubt the best phone I have ever bought! Off hand, I can't think of any negative qualities when it comes to this phone. Since it is DECT 6.0 there is no inteference at all from surrounding items like a wireless enviornment!

4.0 out of 5 stars Extra Handest to Uniden's DECT system for those who need to expand, February 20, 2009
This review is from: Uniden DCX300 DECT 6.0 Accessory Handset and Charging Cradle for the DECT2000/DECT 3000 Series Phones (Office Product)

This is an extra set for the Uniden DECT 6.0 Black Cordless Telephone System with Interference Free Digital Technology (DECT3080-3) which I own or the Uniden DECT3080-2 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone/Answering System with One Extra Handset/Cradle. You may want to consider purchasing this together with the 3-set bundle because one 'base' supports up to 6 handsets.

Since this handset cannot function independently, I am inserting my review of the 3-handset system. Adding an extra set to the 3-handset system is as easy as turning on the new addition.
______________________________________________________

It is expandable to 6 handsets per base (that would be the answering machine) but each handset could, in fact, be registered to up to 4 different bases which would make everything extremely complicated if it was actually done.

I ended up with the Uniden DECT set after a sad experience with 'brand X' or, shall we call it 'brand V'? :) Their (more expensive) offering was so bad, I had no choice but to return it so, I'm using the Uniden now.

For efficiency sake, I will start with the negatives so that anyone who cares about these (lack of) features can quickly decide that this set is not for you. Here they are, the negatives:

- The speaker volume is low. This probably has some advantages when it comes to battery life (see below) but anyone who must have a loud speaker should be warned that these phones' speakers are anything BUT loud.
- The ring volume is also low. Seriously, anyone who has a hearing problem should NOT buy this set. I do not mind the low ring volume because too loud rings bother me but I am listing this as a negative because some could mind.
- The intercom can NOT use the speaker. It's the earpiece only for the intercom.

The features that made me decide that this is the set for me include:

+ Long battery life. Possibly because of the low-volume, these phones seem to last forever on a charge. The manufacturer claims up to 10 hours of talk time. I'm not sure if that's the case but, so far, I haven't seen the 'low battery' warning yet and I am spending many hours, almost every day, on conference calls.
+ Good reception. With the base in the basement, I was able to use the phone, outside, some 30 feet away from the house which I can not do with my great Motorola 5.8 MHz sets.
+ Great design. These phones and the base are actually pretty in an unobtrusive, minimalistic way. They are a little bit on the small and light side but they can hold their own in a room full of gadgets.
+ Easy access to voice mail from the handsets. The handset keys actually have the remote-like symbols for play/stop/fast-forward, etc. so, if anyone does not feel like reading the menu options from the phone's display, you can simply use it as if you were using a remote. Very nice.
+ Belt clip - my wife loves this more than I do because I tend to be at my desk when I talk on the phone.
+ Headset jacks on all handsets - another feature that my wife loves.
+ 50 page, VERY thorough manual that was written by an English-speaker. This may sound like a trivial thing but I was actually impressed by how easy to use and how comprehensive the manual was. Every feature appears to be covered.
+ Easy to navigate, simple menus
+ Privacy mode - once on a call, you can block all other registered sets to listen on your conversation.

Other features, which I expect in any phone in this class and are well implemented include:

= Caller ID
= Call waiting
= 3-way calling
= 70 phonebook entries per set with the ability to copy individual entries or the entire phonebook from one set to another (I tried it and it was very easy)
= The ability to personalize each phonebook entry to show name (can keep the caller ID name if you don't want to complicate your life), wallpaper, ring style and display style (can't see myself doing that a lot)
= 30 caller ID number per set, in addition to the phonebook entries
= 5 'last dialed' numbers availalble to redial
= 10 ring tones (in fact 5 rings and 5 melodic tones)
= 10 display styles
= 5 wallpaper styles
= English/Spanish menus
= Independent volume controls for headset, speaker and ringer.
= The ability to set the time/date on all sets and base from one handset.
= The ability to control the answering machine, including turning it off from any handset.
= Intercom.
= Paging a lost handset from the base.

I am overall happy with these phones but I must take off one star, mostly for the 'low volume' issue. Other than that, they come as close to 'perfect' as anything.

Just in case anyone cares to know what DECT is about.

DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) is a relatively new (2005) standard for cordless phones, initially developed in Europe.

Some of the advantages of DECT 6.0 include:

- easier to implement multiple handsets sharing one phone jack connection via one common base (have it on a 5.8 GHz set as well)
- easier to implement intercom features between individual handsets (have it on a 5.8 GHz set as well)
- extended range, up to 300 feet
- low power consumption and, therefore, extended battery life
- better performance in areas experiencing heavy radio traffic
- not affected by Wi-Fi or Bluetooh signals (neither are the 5.8 MHz)

This is a far cry from Panasonic or Sony which both offer free, toll-free support. Apparently, Uniden is too cheap to offer a toll-free support number, and they want you to pay for the phone call. To add insult to injury, when I did finally call their pay support number, I had to wait twenty minutes for someone to answer. Simply pathetic. I would avoid this company. Apparently Uniden does not want to put any money towards customers, so why should customers pay for their phones?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent add-on handset for the older DECT2060-2 system, July 16, 2009

This review is from: Uniden DCX300 DECT 6.0 Accessory Handset and Charging Cradle for the DECT2000/DECT 3000 Series Phones (Office Product)
I was unsure if this handset would work with my DECT2060-2 system but the description said it would. It does. Much better handset than the old DCX200 and was cheaper! Has more robust features and fits good in your hand when talking. Very nice display and nice options. When you register the handset to the base on a DECT2000 system it won't fit in the base because it is not the same size (of course). No worries. You just have to unplug your base, plug it back in while holding the "find HS" button and then go to the menu options on your new handset and hit "Register HS" to make it work. It takes about 30 seconds for the handset to register so don't panic if it doesn't register right away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Designed Handset, October 31, 2008

This review is from: Uniden DCX300 DECT 6.0 Accessory Handset and Charging Cradle for the DECT2000/DECT 3000 Series Phones (Office Product)
I purchased this handset to complement the other three handsets that came with Uniden system for my home. The handset have a very nice feature set and are very quiet. One of the nice things that I like are that the phone books for each handset can either be unique to that phone of can be a clone of another handset or all can have the same phonebook. The handsets, once registered with the base unit, are aware of each other and as such, the phonebook in one handset can be sent to another or all of the other handsets. I have found the range to be good from both upstairs and downstairs as well as outside of the brick home to the edge of my property lines without any degradation in quality of sound. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best, October 15, 2008
This review is from: Uniden DCX300 DECT 6.0 Accessory Handset and Charging Cradle for the DECT2000/DECT 3000 Series Phones (Office Product)
These handsets are simple excellence. Talk quality is solid, no difference between one of these and a wired phone. Many of the ring-tones are annoying, although there are a few that are fine.

A few things really stand out. These are super-lightweight. The included battery packs use 2 aaa batteries, which doesn't really even adversely effect talk-time. I've had hour conversations on these without the battery meter even dropping. The headset jack even works with my xbox-360 headsets, again talk-quality is top notch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love this phone, September 11, 2008
This review is from: Uniden DCX300 DECT 6.0 Accessory Handset and Charging Cradle for the DECT2000/DECT 3000 Series Phones (Office Product)
I really love this phone. It's slim and easy to use. I love the ease of the features. I have 4 of them hooked up and my kids love having them in their rooms. My one complaint is that the ringer is very low and hard to hear in another part of the house. Otherwise thumbs up!
