Everything my old cordless system wasn't...,
This review is from: Uniden DECT2085-2 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone/Answering System with One Extra Handset/Cradle (Office Product)
I've had 2 good Unidens in the past, I was never too thrilled with my current 2.4GHz VTech system, and I have TWO different friends with 5.8GHz Panasonic's that they are ready to use for shooting practice...
I was therefore very careful in my new purchase and I've tested every aspect of this system in the last 2 weeks - it passes with flying colors! - Most importantly, this 1.9GHz system imparts no interference to my wireless router, parked just 3 feet away... and while it doesn't penetrate a metal garage door if you're standing right behind it, I can walk out the front door and talk clearly until I'm halfway past my THIRD neighbor's house. - These NiMH batteries have given me 4 days off the charger WITH 4 hours of talktime, and the charging seems to be 'smart' because they never get very warm, and get cool when fully charged. Oh, and the the handsets have actual battery gauges instead of just beeps to tell you you're about to lose the call... - The speakerphones are quite good in both the handsets and the base-station, and when you've left the handset in another room you'll wonder how you ever lived without Caller ID and dialing on the base. - All the various volumes and ringers are adequately loud and I find most all the controls and menu functions intuitive. The single exception is the 'hold' function, which ought to be a single key-press, but requires pushing Intercom, then Select and then Hang-up to stop everything from ringing... I also love (maybe common nowadays) the answering machine message indicators on the handsets and the ability to both retrieve messages from the handsets and also to monitor an incoming message. As you can tell, I'm VERY happy with my new system, and I hope it lasts a long time (like my previous Unidens...)

We bought this one month ago. This is a great machine chocked full of features. It is easy to use, good sound quality, great value. The only thing we wish it had was a memo feature so we can leave messages ourselves. We are very happy with it otherwise.

After owning the 9485, the Uniden DECT2085 is a letdown,
This review is from: Uniden DECT2085-2 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone/Answering System with One Extra Handset/Cradle (Office Product)
I hate to disagree with the positive review(s) on this Uniden DECT2085 series but as a big fan of my previous Unidens (I liked the TRU-8885 system and I LOVED the TRU-9485) I have to say that I'm extremely disappointed in the Uniden DECT2085 series. I just got the Uniden DECT2085-3 set brand new straight from Uniden's online store about 2 weeks ago and I'm ready to pack it up and return it.
Since my favorite phone system so far has been the Uniden TRU-9485 series, I'll base my comparisons / critiques against that. I'll start with the good parts first though... Uniden DECT2085 PROS: - Very light-weight handsets (a pro if you like them light) - Smaller size than previous versions - Very good speakerphone and easy dialing from the base - Easy setup / very easy menu navigation - Convenient headset jack on each handset - Stand-alone base comes with easy wall-mount attachment - Sleek design, looks good, very contemporary Uniden DECT2085 CONS: - Static / noise on the line is constant and annoying. Nowhere near as clear as the 9485 5.8Ghz, and I have it positioned in the same exact spot as I had my 9485's, same outlet and all. - HANDSET BATTERY LIFE is TERRIBLE. I can pick it up from a full overnight charge, and literally within 15 minutes of use the battery meter starts dropping quickly. I've lost calls after only one quick warning beep after very little talk time. - "Out of Range" disconnects even when only *2 feet* away from the base. This is a brand new set with brand new batteries, optimally set up. NO EXCUSE for "Out of Range" spontaneous disconnects, especially when you're sitting right next to the base!! - No "Room Monitor" feature. This is trivial for some people, but for me it's important. I work in a basement and can't hear knocks at the door upstairs, so I've always used the Room Monitor feature of my 9485's to listen for important deliveries etc... Why Uniden would have ditched this simple feature that was standard with the 8885's and 9485's is inexplicable. - The keypad buttons are adjoined, making it very easy to mis-dial despite the fact that the middle row is sunken slightly so that you can feel the difference between number keys. (On the 9485 the buttons are separated for much easier dialing). If you've got large fingers / thumbs, this is going to be an issue for you. I can only imagine how bad this would get after a year of heavy use. Poor keypad design. - Echo echo echo... this doesn't seem to affect the caller on the other end, but you yourself will hear an "echoey" sound on yur own voice in the headset and handset, almost as if you have a reverb or slight delay effect on your voice. Simply annoying. It sounds robotic, almost like a cell phone. I find myself and callers often "stepping on" each other's conversation because of this (like a cell phone). Sorry Uniden, but the DECT2085 and it's DECT 6.0 technology doesn't hold a candle to it's predecessors, such as the 9485 5.8Ghz. The 9485 are virtually noise-free, have just as much range, battery life is better, keypad is superior, and has more features. The DECT2085 falls short on almost all fronts compared to it's predecessors. I'm ditching this 2085 blunder and going back to my 9485's (glad I didn't sell them on eBay yet, because the price for 9485 is ridiculous now, as opposed to when I bought the 3-handset set here new for only $129). Kinda sad really, this is my first negative review of a Uniden multi-handset system.

I ordered this Uniden Dect telephone about 3 weeks ago and I am highly disappointed. I was always led to believe that Uniden was a good name of cordless phone manufacturers. However, after receiving this phone and using it for the past 3 weeks I deplore its performance. First off, when speaking on the phone I hear a constant echo of my own voice and secondly, when using the speaker phone feature, the sound cuts out throughout the entire conversation.
I have sent an e-mail to Uniden about these issues and am now waiting for a response from them with a solution. I do not feel very confident to say the least.

My neighbor had this phone system with several head sets that she purchased from a local store. She loaned me one of her headsets when
our digital phone modems were hit by lightning and I could use her phone head set from across the street. I ordered this phone system with 2 head sets for my husband for Father's day. we both like it very much and he uses the intercom feature quite often to page me in the house.

Received it, charged it, used it for a day, unplugged it, boxed it up, sent it back.
I purchased this phone to replace a GE 2.4 GHz cordeless set with buttons that no longer work when pressed. Up until now the GE has been a really good phone with excellent sound quality. I assumed the latest DECT 6.0 technology would have an equal, if not better, sound quality than my old 2.4 GHz so I was surprised to find that the sound quality was worse. I found this Uniden to have a tin can, almost muffley sound to it that was annoying. I didn't even want to give it time to see if it was something I could get used to so I sent it back. I'm hoping the problem is the Uniden phone itself and not the DECT 6.0 technology because I turned around and ordered a GE28851FE2 w/DECT 6.0. I haven't received it yet so the jury still out. Bottom line is, if you're used to clear sound quality you're going to notice a difference with this phone and I don't mean for the better. If you're used to muffled sound quality then you might like the features of this phone. UPDATE: Received my GE phone and the sound quality is HEAD OVER HEALS BETTER than this Uniden. Not just that but I like pretty much everything about the GE better...the curve of the phone, the ring tone selection, the free GOOG411 button, everything. Sorry Uniden. |
