This review is from: Uniden DECT2185-3 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Two Extra Handsets (Office Product)
We bought this one to replace an old Radio Shack unit that was starting to wear out. Initially we were looking at a Panasonic unit that offered call blocking, a feature we wanted to stop those annoying telemarketing calls. After some searching I found this unit, which also offered the call blocking capability. After some serious comparison shopping we opted to go with this unit, which so far we have not regretted at all. It's relatively easy to set up, although the directions leave a bit to be desired in my opinion. We bought an additional unit for this and all three remote units easily synched with the base unit. One unit did have a totally dead battery in it, but it quickly recharged after being left on the charger. We can't begin to say how much we love the call blocking feature. It's remarkably easy to add a number, either when it's ringing or by searching through the call history. Suddenly our house is much quieter now and we can actually get some peace and quiet knowing this unit is stopping those pesky telemarketers. The one feature I wish it had is a lighted push to talk button. If you pick up the phone in the dark you can't tell which button is the one to push to answer it, which can be kind of annoying if you've been woken up to answer the phone. While the keypad is lighted, it would be most helpful if the other buttons were as well. We've also found the battery to last a long time, which is refreshing given the fact that our old Radio Shack batteries were starting to wear out. Overall we're very happy with this new unit and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a phone that has lots of features, a good price, and nice styling.

Update - 3 May 2010: I'm still happy with this phone although the call block feature fills up rather quickly. It only holds about 20 numbers, so I've found it has filled up way too fast. It would be great if Uniden would expand that capability as I have lots of numbers I would like to add to the list.

This review is from: Uniden DECT2185-3 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Two Extra Handsets (Office Product)
Uniden must have read my review of the Uniden DXAI5588-2 5.8 GHz Analog Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets (Silver and Black), because this phone solves almost all my complaints, and adds some nice new features.

You can talk on more than one extension at a time, you can copy stored phone numbers between all handsets, you can control the answering machine and check messages from any handsets. All extensions and the base have speakerphones. The time is automatically synchronized between all extensions and the base, so you only set it once.

It also has some cellphone type features. You can specify different ringtones for different people (though there's only 6), or for different handsets. You can block certain numbers, or block private or unknown numbers. If someone is in your phone book, the name from your phonebook is used instead of the one from caller id. This means you can ID those people that show up as a city or state name. It's pretty easy to figure it out without using the instructions, but you might want to look at them just to discover all the cool features.

What else... there's an intercom feature for talking between the handsets, a battery charge indicator on each handset, the voicemail controls are all marked on the number keys. The base has buttons to turn the answering system on and off, a do-not-disturb mode which will send all calls straight to voicemail, and a find-handset button. You can name each handset which is used for the phonebook copying, find-handset, intercom, and other functions.

We've had zero problems with sound quality or interference. All around it's a great phone and I'm glad to see some of the more advanced features showing up on landline phones.

I've been using Uniden phones for many years, so thought nothing of buying this one looking forward to some of the new qualities it has. Only after I opened it up did I realize it was missing something I've just become accustomed to them having: belt hooks. It took getting the batteries charged and plugging the phone in that I realized another missing item I didn't think phones even came without anymore: plug-in for a headset. This is a huge necessity for me, I'm constantly plugging in so I can work and talk at the same time. I'm definitely going to have to figure out how to replace these. I hadn't noticed this information in any other reviews so thought it might be useful to someone who is looking for those two features.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value in a Cordless Phone, December 27, 2009

This review is from: Uniden DECT2185-3 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Two Extra Handsets (Office Product)
The DECT2185-3 cordless phone system, like most of Uniden's phones offers the consumer great value for the money.

This phone set has a 70-name directory capacity with each handset having the same or different contacts (your option. It's extremely versatile. Most manufacturers only offer a 50-capacity directory with all handsets sharing the same contacts.

Although the DECT 2185-3 includes 3 handsets, you can add an additional 3 for a total of 6. Each extra handset (DCX210) is a very reasonable $29.99 each.

Other plusses include excellent sound quality, 8 ringer tones, most of which are melodic--not harsh tones. If you want the Star Spangled Banner as your ring tone, this phone has it!. A lighted keypad and base and battery display are also included.

Only negative with this phone is that a larger LCD screen would make it even easier to read, especially for someone with visual impairment.

If you are looking for a cordless phone set that offers features as opposed to style, this is one to consider.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless, October 1, 2010

This review is from: Uniden DECT2185-3 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Two Extra Handsets (Office Product)
Just set up this system after ordering it in June 2010.I wanted the call block feature so that is why this particular model was chosen.

I have an LCD TV in my bedroom via the DISH network. I put the ans. machine in the kitchen and put one of the extensions in the bedroom. Plugged it into the electrical outlet while the TV was on and pushed "talk". TV went nuts with distortions on the screen. Press "end" to turn off the handset and the TV picture returned to normal.Changed hand sets. Same problem. Changed electrical outlets. Same problem. Put the ans. machine base unit in the bedroom, plugged in the phone line cord etc. Same problem.

I called Uniden customer service. Was cut off while on hold twice. Third time after holding for nearly 10 min. "Elizabeth" answered. Went over problem. She said it was fault of TV. Told her no, that a Panasonic cordless phone I had used in this bedroom for years worked perfectly with this TV set etc.Told her my cell phone works in bedroom without TV interference etc. She continued to say it was fault of TV. Finally said there was nothing they could do to adjust the phone to make it work without making the TV have severe interference !!! I asked her what she would suggest since I have to have a phone in the bedroom etc. She said "get a regular corded phone or get another Panasonic cordless phone !" I will NEVER buy another Uniden product. Anyone want this set cheap????

2.0 out of 5 stars Not much that I liked, May 5, 2010
This review is from: Uniden DECT2185-3 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Two Extra Handsets (Office Product)
I've been a big Uniden fan for years. I have the Tru 8330 which has begun to have some issues with caller ID. So I thought I'd try another Uniden based on the rave reviews here and my past positive experiences. I've tried two different times to recreate what others have found. My experience has been: the sound quality is muffled and low. (I'm somewhat hard of hearing, but had no trouble on my old Uniden.) In two days I've had six calls dropped. Never had a call dropped on my old 8330. I find the menu less direct, but I can definitely live with that. However, dropped calls and bad voice quality make it a non-starter for me. I'm really disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but have a couple dealbreaker flaws, June 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Uniden DECT2185-3 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Two Extra Handsets (Office Product)
The speakerphone on the handset cuts out whenever moved or set down, I returned the first setand am about to return my second set for this reason. I think that the volume could be a bit louder, even though the audio is clear. The also feel that the ringtone volume is ridiculously low with the exception of the base which is loud enough.

I thought I'd just gotten a bad set as far as the speakerphone goes, but when the secon set did the same thing(6 phones in total) it must be a flaw in the design. Other than these problems I think it's a nice set.

I have been looking for phones for the first floor of my home for a few months. There are so many to choose from that it took a while to sort through the choices and the reviews. I have the main line in the kitchen and the other lines in the family room and playroom. I can hear the ring easily (you have ring tone choices). It is easy to use, I have never had a problem hearing, the sound quality is good. The answering machine is easy to use. The caller ID display is clear. I haven't used all the features yet but so far we love this phone.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Uniden DECT2185-3 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Two Extra Handsets (Office Product)
This phone system has some nice features (3 handsets, voicemail on base, can check vm on each handset, vm notification blinking light on each handset). The down side: initial setup is a bit difficult. If you pride yourself on setting up electronics sans the manual, you may be disappointed. Keep it handy! The handset's ringer, at full volume, on any ringer tone, is hard to hear unless you are in the same room as one of the handsets or are a psychic teenager that is worried about Dad answering the phone!
