This review is from: Uniden DECT3080-2 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone/Answering System with One Extra Handset/Cradle (Office Product)
For the record: I'm not affiliated with Uniden--I'm just a fanboy. Our family has owned every brand of cordless phones since before 900MHz was around. From our experience, Panasonic, V-Tech, and Uniden were all at the top when it came to reliability, longevity, and sound quality. Uniden has set themselves apart from the rest in my opinion with their consistent great aesthetic design and superior build quality. I bought the DECT3080 to have the best security possible for important confidential calls from work. The phones and base are smaller than I expected, but after looking at the pictures here again, I guess I didn't judge well. Don't be fooled by size--all the features are there. Everything feels lighter than my old 5.8GHz Uniden system, which worried me at first (heavy = well-built right?). I guess since these phones are more power efficient, the batteries are half the size (along with all the guts), so more weight would be pointless. They still feel like they could handle a drop off the counter, though I'm not going to try it. The user interface is very simple and well-designed; people who complain should read the manual! If you're not tech-savvy, get a rotary dial phone or don't complain. My phones recognized the base immediately, but if they didn't, there are straight-forward instructions in the manual for how to assign them to a base. Remember: This is expandable up to 6 handsets! I'm using this system with VOIP on a cable connection with 1.5mbps upstream. Voice quality couldn't be better--no echo, reverb, static, etc. People could clearly hear my voice AND the voices from the TV in the other room that I couldn't even hear. I'm not sure what else to say about these things other than this system is a great buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not quite perfect, September 24, 2008

I had static when I first used this phone. I got my return authorization from Amazon and packaged it up before I noticed that I'd forgotten to put the DSL filter on the line. Since then the phone has been perfect from a reception standpoint.

I really appreciate the ability to name each phone. I can then then page it by name rather than by number. I haven't seen another phone with that feature. I also bought this phone for the multibase capability, but it's been completely unnecessary. The base is at the back of the first floor and reception is perfect at the front of the third floor.

Pros:
- It actually looks pretty good for a phone.
- Multibase
- Very clear call quality
- Can name phones and change display background (more choices would be nice)
- Can use names in intercom
- Can send phonebook between phones

Cons:
- None compared to other systems I've used

Features I'd still like to see:
- A shared phonebook
- The ability to intercom a specific person (i.e. have a specific ring for my daughter)

Right now, I'm approximately 3 feet from the base, with the handset in my hand, and it's telling me that I'm out of range? The battery is fully charged - I haven't even called anyone yet!

I was thinking that I may have gotten a dud, though, some other reviewers from a competitor's website are reporting the same issue. This is going back, first thing, next week.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Cordless Phone I've Ever Used, August 3, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Uniden DECT3080-2 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone/Answering System with One Extra Handset/Cradle (Office Product)
The reception whether through the earpiece or speakerphone is clear, though not crystal clear like a landline connection. The handset volume is somewhat limited even when set at max. The unified phonebook and the ability to check answering machine messages through the handsets is very convenient. The ability to have separate phonebooks for each handset is potentially useful, too. Phones can be assigned names and wallpapers so they don't get mixed up. The ability to page handsets is a great way for my wife to order me to get her a cup of juice from across the house. The handsets themselves have a great, light feel and the hard plastic buttons have good tactile feedback, unlike rubber buttons. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product and highly recommend it. It's a dependable, comfortable, handsome, and feature-rich phone system.

Been going through phones left and right trying to find something useful. This is my third DECT 6.0 attempt. It is stylish, which was a factor for me with my new VOIP system that has to plug into my computer. Since my Media Center PC by my LCD TV is the one on all the time, that was where i needed it to be. So wanted something with a good look to it. Phone works well, menus aren't convoluted, very straight forward setup. I was using it within minutes. Clear sound, responsive buttons, easy voicemail unit to set up and use. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because something at this price point and level of electronics complexity certainly could have a few more options for polyphonic ringtones than it came with. Other than that lack, it is everything I've been looking for and works great. Make sure you double check that the battery plug is fully inserted - my main unit would NOT charge past the 1/3 mark but worked fine other than that - showed charging when in the cradle. Second unit had already charged fully. Checked the battery, had not got the plug snapped all the way down when I first put it together, so got it all the way in, and charged just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top of the line Uniden cordless, September 30, 2008
This review is from: Uniden DECT3080-2 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone/Answering System with One Extra Handset/Cradle (Office Product)
I've had two previous Uniden wireless phones, and found them better than Sony or Panasonic. This one is no exception. I chose it for its slim, light profile and top of the line features, and I'm not disappointed.

Highlights:

* Handset speakerphone works great
* Light, slim handset
* Long battery life
* Address book transfers automatically easily handsets
* Easy voicemail recovery from the handset
* Fantastic range, works through all the walls in our house
* No interference with our WiFi network
* Small footprint remote handset charger fits easily on bedside table

The only downside I could think of is that my iPhone headset doesn't fit the jack, but this doesn't warrant deducting a star. Five stars.

It has been many years since I had purchased a cordless phone. The sound quality of this phone is no different than a wired phone. All of the features seem to work well. It is thin though and it is hard to hold it with your shoulder.

5.0 out of 5 stars I moved my wireless router and now I don't have dropped calls, September 27, 2008
This review is from: Uniden DECT3080-2 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone/Answering System with One Extra Handset/Cradle (Office Product)
I gave this phone a bad review when I first began to use it because we were experiencing 'out of range,' dropped calls and lost signal errors daily. However, all my problems went away when I moved my wireless router about 6' away from the phone's main base. I put this new system in the same spot as my old 900MHz, the old phone worked great in that spot so I thought this one would work, too. That wasn't the case. For whatever reason, the DECT-6 3080 was dropping our phone calls all the time. All I had to do was move the wireless router and now we absolutely love these phones. No more dropped calls.
Update:
It's been about 6 weeks since I moved the router. The first 6 weeks were great; I didn't have any dropped calls. Now, every once in a while, less than once a week, I'll have a dropped call. Usually I can get the call back by hitting the talk button or by returning the handset to the base for a moment. Sometimes I lose the call.
edit:
I forgot to mention that each handset comes with a belt clip. That is useful for me in two ways; one, the belt clip makes holding the phone easier because this phone is very slim; two, I can clip the phone to my shirt, use the speaker phone option leaving my hands free for washing dishes, leaving the dog in & out, crocheting, etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good phone, July 20, 2008
This review is from: Uniden DECT3080-2 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone/Answering System with One Extra Handset/Cradle (Office Product)
This is a really nice cordless phone. I think the design blows away anything else that is out there on the market right now from other leading brands like Panasonic, GE, etc.

A couple of things I didn't like: the time format cannot be set to 24H, only 12H. It does not have a setting for line dialout # (i.e. if you always need to dial a "9" to get an outside line), nor is there anything explained in the manual about how to insert a pause between numbers.

It is a sleek-looking unit, has good sound quality, and I like the simple, unconfused base which has a prominent display of the number of messages.

The setup/configuration menus are straightforward. Wish it had a higher amount of overall greeting time but I doubt I'll ever max it out.

I'd say this is probably one of the best cordless phones on the market today, definitely the coolest looking if you're into cool factor, and worth getting. Consumer Reports usually gives high ratings to Uniden phones for their quality and features.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best in its class, except for the speaker's low volume, February 20, 2009
This review is from: Uniden DECT3080-2 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone/Answering System with One Extra Handset/Cradle (Office Product)
I've been using the Uniden DECT 6.0 Black Cordless Telephone System with Interference Free Digital Technology (DECT3080-3) system which comes with an extra handset for a total of three. I hope that my experience with product may help others decide whether this is the set worth buying or they should be looking elsewhere.

I see that some have experienced problems with dropped calls and 'out of range' issues. This is not my experience but my review is only based on the set I purchased (as 'new' from a third-party Amazon seller).
______________________________________________________

It is expandable to 6 handsets per base (that would be the answering machine) but each handset could, in fact, be registered to up to 4 different bases which would make everything extremely complicated if it was actually done.

I ended up with the Uniden DECT set after a sad experience with 'brand X' or, shall we call it 'brand V'? :) Their (more expensive) offering was so bad, I had no choice but to return it so, I'm using the Uniden now.

For efficiency sake, I will start with the negatives so that anyone who cares about these (lack of) features can quickly decide that this set is not for you. Here they are, the negatives:

- The speaker volume is low. This probably has some advantages when it comes to battery life (see below) but anyone who must have a loud speaker should be warned that these phones' speakers are anything BUT loud.
- The ring volume is also low. Seriously, anyone who has a hearing problem should NOT buy this set. I do not mind the low ring volume because too loud rings bother me but I am listing this as a negative because some could mind.
- The intercom can NOT use the speaker. It's the earpiece only for the intercom.

The features that made me decide that this is the set for me include:

+ Long battery life. Possibly because of the low-volume, these phones seem to last forever on a charge. The manufacturer claims up to 10 hours of talk time. I'm not sure if that's the case but, so far, I haven't seen the 'low battery' warning yet and I am spending many hours, almost every day, on conference calls.
+ Good reception. With the base in the basement, I was able to use the phone, outside, some 30 feet away from the house which I can not do with my great Motorola 5.8 MHz sets.
+ Great design. These phones and the base are actually pretty in an unobtrusive, minimalistic way. They are a little bit on the small and light side but they can hold their own in a room full of gadgets.
+ Easy access to voice mail from the handsets. The handset keys actually have the remote-like symbols for play/stop/fast-forward, etc. so, if anyone does not feel like reading the menu options from the phone's display, you can simply use it as if you were using a remote. Very nice.
+ Belt clip - my wife loves this more than I do because I tend to be at my desk when I talk on the phone.
+ Headset jacks on all handsets - another feature that my wife loves.
+ 50 page, VERY thorough manual that was written by an English-speaker. This may sound like a trivial thing but I was actually impressed by how easy to use and how comprehensive the manual was. Every feature appears to be covered.
+ Easy to navigate, simple menus
+ Privacy mode - once on a call, you can block all other registered sets to listen on your conversation.

Other features, which I expect in any phone in this class and are well implemented include:

= Caller ID
= Call waiting
= 3-way calling
= 70 phonebook entries per set with the ability to copy individual entries or the entire phonebook from one set to another (I tried it and it was very easy)
= The ability to personalize each phonebook entry to show name (can keep the caller ID name if you don't want to complicate your life), wallpaper, ring style and display style (can't see myself doing that a lot)
= 30 caller ID number per set, in addition to the phonebook entries
= 5 'last dialed' numbers availalble to redial
= 10 ring tones (in fact 5 rings and 5 melodic tones)
= 10 display styles
= 5 wallpaper styles
= English/Spanish menus
= Independent volume controls for headset, speaker and ringer.
= The ability to set the time/date on all sets and base from one handset.
= The ability to control the answering machine, including turning it off from any handset.
= Intercom.
= Paging a lost handset from the base.

I am overall happy with these phones but I must take off one star, mostly for the 'low volume' issue. Other than that, they come as close to 'perfect' as anything.

Just in case anyone cares to know what DECT is about.

DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) is a relatively new (2005) standard for cordless phones, initially developed in Europe.

Some of the advantages of DECT 6.0 include:

- easier to implement multiple handsets sharing one phone jack connection via one common base (have it on a 5.8 GHz set as well)
- easier to implement intercom features between individual handsets (have it on a 5.8 GHz set as well)
- extended range, up to 300 feet
- low power consumption and, therefore, extended battery life
- better performance in areas experiencing heavy radio traffic
- not affected by Wi-Fi or Bluetooh signals (neither are the 5.8 MHz)
