Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

A 900 MHz analog cordless phone from Uniden, the DXI-986-2 comes with a number of useful features, including an extra handset with charging cradle. Ideal for any large home, this stylish phone set allows you to place handsets in multiple locations, so you never miss a call. An autoscan feature automatically detects the channel with the least interference to provide the clearest possible reception.

Caller ID/call waiting compatible, the DXI-986-2 can store up to 30 numbers in the caller ID memory, while the display-and-dial feature lets you easily scroll through the list of calls and dial with the touch of a button. Up to 10 memory locations are available for the most frequently dialed numbers, and a RocketDial feature allows you to dial the most important number simply by pressing the RocketDial button. Each memory location supports up to 20 digits for numbers which require chain dialing. A redial button lets you quickly call the last outgoing number.

Handset and ringer volume controls allow you to easily adjust the phone's settings to your liking. The handsets are headset compatible (a belt clip is provided for hands-free operation) as well as hearing aid compatible for hearing-impaired users. A page button on the base makes finding a lost handset quick and painless, while the menu-driven handset LCD makes operation easy. A handset-to-handset call transfer function is provided, and a visual voice mail indicator on the base lets you know when you have message waiting. With the auto-talk feature turned on, you can answer calls simply by removing the phone from its cradle. The flash/talk button lets you switch to an incoming call (requires subscription to a fee-based service) and put the current conversation on hold. The DXI-986-2 also comes backed with a one-year warranty on both parts and labor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good phones for the price., November 24, 2004

** You can NOT use both handsets at once **

I wasn't aware of this when purchasing the phones. Although it isn't enough of a reason for me to return them, I think it needs to be stated clearly. You can only use one handset at a time.

Otherwise I have been happy with the clarity of the calls as well as the battery life. The caller ID with call waiting is also quite a bonus. The phones are easy to use and the reception is great! Too bad you can't use both at once!

The reviews on Amazon for this unit led me to try 'em. After using for about 9months, I noticed a problem with dropped calls and the voice just shutting off. So I decided to go back to my old faithful Panasonic. Got a good deal on the 5.8G dual handset. It's a lot more expensive than these Unidens but I figured that Panasonics have always served me for a long time. I still have a 20 yr old Panasonic corded speakerphone I use when power goes down during a bad weather. I'm not generalizing that the Unidens are bad, maybe I got a bad apple. But I'm not likely to try this brand ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't beat the price, August 12, 2004
This review is from: Uniden DXI-986-2 900 MHz Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Extra Charging Cradle (Office Product)
I don't know what John M. Young from Texas is on about because these are great little phones. I've had next to no static with them, and the battery life is excellent. I've actually sat on the phone for 7+ hours and not been forced to switch to the second handset. Furthermore, I also found it rather useful that not only does this phone have caller ID, but the caller ID also works when recieving a call via call-waiting, which is highly uncommon. The memory dial and rocket dial are extremly helpful, especially when dialing long distance numbers that you don't often use. The range is great as I've walked half a block from my house and have only had a hint of interference. As an added bonus, they're light weight and it prevents them from becoming cumbersome during lengthy conversations. The only possible criticism I could possibly think of is that an answering machine is not included, but at 35 dollars who's complaining?
