Good phones for the price.,

** You can NOT use both handsets at once **I wasn't aware of this when purchasing the phones. Although it isn't enough of a reason for me to return them, I think it needs to be stated clearly. You can only use one handset at a time. Otherwise I have been happy with the clarity of the calls as well as the battery life. The caller ID with call waiting is also quite a bonus. The phones are easy to use and the reception is great! Too bad you can't use both at once!

The reviews on Amazon for this unit led me to try 'em. After using for about 9months, I noticed a problem with dropped calls and the voice just shutting off. So I decided to go back to my old faithful Panasonic. Got a good deal on the 5.8G dual handset. It's a lot more expensive than these Unidens but I figured that Panasonics have always served me for a long time. I still have a 20 yr old Panasonic corded speakerphone I use when power goes down during a bad weather. I'm not generalizing that the Unidens are bad, maybe I got a bad apple. But I'm not likely to try this brand ever.

I don't know what John M. Young from Texas is on about because these are great little phones. I've had next to no static with them, and the battery life is excellent. I've actually sat on the phone for 7+ hours and not been forced to switch to the second handset. Furthermore, I also found it rather useful that not only does this phone have caller ID, but the caller ID also works when recieving a call via call-waiting, which is highly uncommon. The memory dial and rocket dial are extremly helpful, especially when dialing long distance numbers that you don't often use. The range is great as I've walked half a block from my house and have only had a hint of interference. As an added bonus, they're light weight and it prevents them from becoming cumbersome during lengthy conversations. The only possible criticism I could possibly think of is that an answering machine is not included, but at 35 dollars who's complaining?

Rated number 1 by " Consumer Reports", I gave these a try. The sound quality is outstanding and range is very good. There were a few little hisses when I ventured outdoors in front of our house and the backyard but nothing major. For $33 including shipping delivered to our door, It's a great deal. I found and purchased a dark Gray / Black version instead of the standard White found everywhere else. I wanted something darker than the White that would hide dirt a little more and found they do make a dark Gray version (DXI 986-2C) The last letter "C" for the Charcol color. Not mentioned is the LCD screen has a nice green backlight. The transfer feature to the second handset is very handy. You can put the second phone anywhere theres an outlet with no need for another phone line. Only the main base unit needs the phone line. To transfer you hit a button and the second phone rings and puts the first phone on hold until the other phone is picked up.

These are lovely little phones, but for us they have almost zero range and a tremendous amount of interference noise. Changing channels has no effect. No local reason, just a suburban home with no electical or industrial problems around. I have other Uniden cordless 900 MHz phones that are superb, but these guys have something wrong. I had two sets of them and both were awful performers. Save yourself some grief and look further. Amazon treated us superbly on the transaction, not their fault the phones are so weak.

I've been using the previous model (DXI-386-2) for a couple of years, and one of the handset stopped connecting to the base. Giving the going price, I bought this set as a replacement. It is one advantage of having the low price phone: one won't go heartbreak if it stopped working. This phone set has only basic functions according to today's standard. The multi-line LCD display does help on dialing even if one doesn't need CID. Nothing fancy here and nothing wrong. Note that the two handsets can't be used at the same time for conference, but transfer from one handset to the other is allowed. The battery life is good. I never measured exact talk time, but it seems to be able to support full-day talking. The sound quality is pretty good, but there are occasional clicking noise even not too far away. The range is not great inside the house. In theory, this 900MHz phone should work better in obstructed setting compare to higher frequency phones (2.4G and 5.8G). It doesn't fare that well though, for the both model versions I have. In short, it doesn't cover the whole house well for me (noise gets higher when away from the base). The new model also get complains from the other side of the line for soft voice, which was not a problem in the older version. Overall, however, it is acceptable quality and when I say it doesn't cover the whole house well, it does cover the whole (medium size) house, nevertheless. At this price range, I think this may even qualify as a great deal, depend on your expectation. I have a 5.8G (digital) phone which beats this one on range and noise level, but more expensive. I don't have a 2.4G phone to compare with (I use wi-fi network, so trying to avoid 2.4G).

I am actually on Amazon to buy another dual handset phone to replace this set!For the money and someone who does not talk alot or need the anti-static, anti-noise/privacy option, this *could* possibly be a good phone. My gripes about this set: Interference: The interference was so much so - if I stood in one place while on the phone, I could hear loud and clear my neighbors phone conversation. Low Battery Indicator: You have about 10 seconds to get to the other handset before it dies. Transfering handsets: Should you be in the last 10 seconds of battery life, trying to transfer to the other handset and the handset dies, guess what? Your call is on hold in limbo. The original handset died and did not release the line. You physically have to unplug the phone and power cords from the wall for the phone to release the call. Then your second handset can get a dial tone. Battery life: What battery life? I have always been told to run your phone down before you charge it. Don't talk and then put it immediately back on the charger. So I wait until it dies and I put it back on the charger for minimum 12 hours. My standby battery life right now on both handsets is just a few hours. Talk time maybe 45 minutes. In addition to this set, I also have a Uniden cordless with answering machine that hasn't given me any problems in the 3 years I've owned it. My overall advice - spend an extra $30 or so and get a better quality set.

I have been using this phone for about 6 months now and it works just fine for me. The range is excellent and the time between recharges for the battery is the best of about 5 portables I've owned.Only minor complaint is an ocassional slight background noise that might be coming from some appliance in my house. Not bad enough to distract me or the person I am talking to. |
