4.0 out of 5 stars Great little phone- Uniden never disappoints
I bought this phone to replace my 2.4Ghz Uniden phone with digital answering machine. The phone still worked great, but we had worn out the digital answering machine plus I had just unknownly purchased a 2.4Ghz wireless router for my laptop and everytime the phone would ring I would get kicked off the internet (just a warning those looking to buy a wirless router- make...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great sound, but you can only use one handset at a time.
Pros:
- Great voice quality; better than the expensive 5.8ghz models which use digital 5.8ghz. While this model uses "analog" 5.8ghz, that can be an advantage as it results in less sound processing and a clearer sound.

Con: (and a big one): You can only use one of the two handsets at a time. WTF? Great if you're the only one in the house; not so great...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little phone- Uniden never disappoints, August 7, 2004
This review is from: Uniden DXI5186-2 5.8 GHz Analog Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Caller ID (Silver/Black) (Office Product)
I bought this phone to replace my 2.4Ghz Uniden phone with digital answering machine. The phone still worked great, but we had worn out the digital answering machine plus I had just unknownly purchased a 2.4Ghz wireless router for my laptop and everytime the phone would ring I would get kicked off the internet (just a warning those looking to buy a wirless router- make sure its not the same Ghz as your phones) So I decided to upgrade to the 5.8Ghz so I wouldn't have the same problem (which I haven't it works great I can talk and work on my laptop at the same time) The sound quality is superb. The only feature I wish it had was a back-lit key pad. We recently switched to Digital phone service that has voice mail so I may return it for the one without the answering machine since I don't need it anymore but I would highly recommend the phone. I still use my old Uniden I just turned off the answering machine.

You can tansfer a call from one handset to the other, but cannot use both handets at the same time. Maybe I just missed it, but I didn't see this restriction listed in the product info anywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great phone!, April 3, 2005
This review is from: Uniden DXI5186-2 5.8 GHz Analog Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Caller ID (Silver/Black) (Office Product)
Finally a phone that DOESN'T interfere with my wireless internet! It uses a combo of 5.8ghz and 900mhz, unlike some that use the 2.4ghz combo, which will knock out wireless internet.

Range is excellent. Went down in basement and outside all around house and didn't lose the connection.

1 drawback- yeah, you can only use one handset at a time. No biggie here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good phone, good price, one drawback, June 26, 2006
This review is from: Uniden DXI5186-2 5.8 GHz Analog Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Caller ID (Silver/Black) (Office Product)
For the price, this product works exactly as advertised. Only had it for few months, but has good reception, range, and battery lasts long enough so far. It's operation is as easy as any other wireless phone u've ever had. The PROBLEM with this is that u can't have both handsets operating at the same time. Eventhough this is very disapointing, for the price, this is a very good phone.

I had this same phone but with only one handset and the range that it had was amazing. We have a field across from our house and it would reach out there with no problem what so ever, and it is a good 200+ feet across the street!!! That would be why I am going to buy the two handset, my three year old dropped it in the field and we ran it over!! I had it for more than 2 years and never had one problem with it.

My first 5.8 GHz went right back because of poor sound quality but this phone is a keeper. Other than more ring types I think these phones are perfect. Great product for a great price.

This is a horrible phone. You get 2 ft from the base and it dies. You walk around the house and it dies. The sound is fuzzy and always static. I returned this days after buying it. Stay away.

I live in a regular size house, and this phone's range doesn't cover it. I tested it in the 'open air' and the phone was good for maybe 20 feet! And not being able to use both phones at once, clinches this product as the worst phone I'ver ever bought!

3.0 out of 5 stars where's the logic?, February 15, 2006
This review is from: Uniden DXI5186-2 5.8 GHz Analog Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Caller ID (Silver/Black) (Office Product)
The quality is not bad in these phones. I have no problems with range of reception and the sound quality is not bad. They also don't interfere with internet usage like some phones can. BUT, why oh, why would you want two phones that cannot be used at the same time? It's just plain stupid. If you're on the phone and someone picks up the other handset you'll lose the call. You can't let kids talk to grandma together. You can't arrange plans with friends together. You can't even yell, "hey, pick up the phone, so-and-so wants to talk to you". You have to transfer the call to the other handset and you're out of the conversation. It's not the end of the world but it is annoying. Get a phone that has ALL of the good qualities instead.

Who is the Einstein who designed and packaged a two phone system in which only one phone can be used at a time. What is worse...the phone has 0 range and those that you call can not hear you. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK!!!
