4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent volume and big directory!
If your looking for a phone with clarity, volume and the ability to hold up to 100 names and numbers in the directory, look no more!

Advantages:

* The caller ID and directory share the same memory so let's say if you have 75 names in the directory you have 25 memory slots left for caller ID info. As your directory grows your caller ID slots grow shorter.
* Lots...

I've got mixed feelings about this phone. When we first got it, the sound quality was great, but over the last few months it seems to be getting steadily worse, even if you change channels on the phone. I do, however, like the large phonebook you can store, making it just as easy as my cell phone to find friend's phone numbers.

The biggest problem I have with the phone is what it does with my wireless network. If you have a wireless router for your DSL or cable modem internet connection, then I'd advise skipping this phone. As you might know, popular wireless networking uses 2.4ghz as well. Theoretically, digital spread spectrum technology should keep the phone from interfering with the wireless signal. This phone, however, created two problems. If someone is talking on the phone close to someone using a laptop wirelessly, the phone becomes quite noisy, and the laptop's wireless signal vanishes, coming back intermittently. I've taken my phone to a friends house, who has a different brand of wireless router to find out if the problem was with my router, but again the same thing happened. Next, we took his panisonic 2.4ghz cordless phone to my house and tried the same thing - but the laptop stayed connected, and we never had a static problem.

Another thing you should know about almost all 2.4ghz phones is that they are prone to noise from your mircrowave. Microwaves emit a 2.4ghz signal that will fill your phone with static. If you want a 2.4ghz phone, move your base station as far away from your microwave as possible.

* Lots of clear volume.
* Easy to read display

Disadvantages:

* Cannot send directories to other phones
* Cannot add any more phones to system (2 phone limit)
* No speaker phone in base
* Wish phone had caller ID and directory matching. When someone calls thats in your directory it would come up on the display as it is shown in the directory
* END button is really to small. I wish Uniden would have just used the TALK button made to also end the call.

With everything considered these phones work well and should be considered when looking for a 2.4GHz cordless phone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound and range - missing 2 key features though..., September 5, 2002

This review is from: Uniden TRU 446-2 2.4 GHz Digital Spread Spectrum Caller ID Cordless Phone (Office Product)
I've owned a variety of multi-handset 2.4Ghz phones, the last pair being Siemens. This one (in my environment) provides greater range than other models and good clarity.

Beware two shortcomings compared to a Siemens: (a) You cannot use both handsets simultaneously. Although you can transfer a call between handsets you can't pick up on a call in progress from the unused handset. (b) There is no visual indication of remaining battery life. If you are like me and don't like to charge the phone until it is almost dead - you have to guess.

I still like the phone, though, and would recommend it to anyone who needs superior range and wall-penetration.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value, work in progress, October 14, 2003
This review is from: Uniden TRU 446-2 2.4 GHz Digital Spread Spectrum Caller ID Cordless Phone (Office Product)
SOUND QUALITY - VG
RANGE- VG
PRICE/FEATURES- VG
ERGONMICS - Needs Improvement - End button too small, volume get hits instead and you wonder why you can't hear anyone. Handset can be tippy in base and easily falls out when knocked or not set properly.
PRODUCT INFORMATION - Poor? - I did research and did not realize you can't use both handsets at the same time (like when you and someone at your place want to talk to a someone you called or is calling you.)
MATERIALS - Needs Improvement - Both handsets have the grey coating worn off from contact with body.

Wow! I have had such a hard time finding a cordless phone that will work well in my area. I live in a remote area and always have trouble with static on the phone. I have only had these phones for about 2 weeks and they are AWESOME!! I have not heard even a tiny bit of static at all. Plus I can walk two houses down from mine and still have perfect reception! The phones are really cool too! You can hold a ton of numbers in the phone book and there are a lot of different ring tones! I would definitely recomend them to anyone who has had a hard time finding a cordless phone to work for them. They are definitely worth the price. If I had known how well these phones worked ahead of time, I probably would have paid the same price for only one of the phones without the extra one!!

I've had problems in the past with cordless phones: reception, range, ease of use, general feel of the phone in your hand. But this phone seems to pull everything together in a very nice package. Granted I live in an apartment and range requirements are minimal, but the reception is very nice (no static), the phone is very easy to use (the buttons are nice size), you can dial a number before connecting (in case you mess up), and the phone fits very nicely in my hand and against my ear. I would highly recommend this phone. The second unit is also a nice touch, particularly since it doesn't require a phone jack.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product, only a few drawbacks, January 24, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Uniden TRU 446-2 2.4 GHz Digital Spread Spectrum Caller ID Cordless Phone (Office Product)
This phone system is generally a good product. I have had it for over a year and have not seen any of the problems stated in the negative reviews. It has some drawbacks though. 1) You cannot use two of these phones at once, they use the same receiver and therefore the first phone on occupies the line. 2) You cannot transfer memory contents between phones as some product can. 3) It is no better in range than a quality 900MHz phone, but this is true of many 2.4GHz phones. 4) While talking, the phone transmissions will conflict with most home wireless PC networks.

On the plus side, it is a quality product with easy to use controls (as opposed to the Seimens units). The mute is relatively easy to use and the remote ear/mic jack is useful for headsets. The battery charge lasts longer than I've ever required.

4.0 out of 5 stars Two phones are not too many, February 10, 2003

What I like about this phone set:
- Two phones. I'm surprised how much I like having two cordless handsets even though I live in a small house; I keep one on each floor.
- Very good sound quality that is consistant throughout my house.
- Ablity to dial a number like a mobile phone... enter the number, then hit talk.
- Stores lots of names/numbers.
- No annoying blink every time there is a new call in the CID memory.

What I don't like about this phone:
- Very short warning when the battery goes dead... about 10 seconds.
- No programable buttons dedicated to dialing the number assigned to them.
- Attractive, but dull styling.

Overall, I would recommend this phone. Good quality and reliable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great range! Great phone! Great buy!, November 12, 2003
This review is from: Uniden TRU 446-2 2.4 GHz Digital Spread Spectrum Caller ID Cordless Phone (Office Product)
I love this phone system! I bought it over a year ago and I still love it! The clarity is near-perfect, the range limit is great, and I love that you only need to plug it into one phone jack! The best part is storing personal phone numbers and then assigning them their own ring tone, so I always know who's calling before I answer the phone or even check the caller ID!

1.0 out of 5 stars Charging of the Phone, September 16, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Uniden TRU 446-2 2.4 GHz Digital Spread Spectrum Caller ID Cordless Phone (Office Product)
I have noticed that neither phone will not charge in its base unit. When you rest the phone on the cradle, it will not charge unless you provide additional support to keep the phone on the charging contacts. At present we use a popcicle stick to position the phone so it will charge. This is a trick we learned from a previous Uniden phone purchase. That phone took 2 years for the problem to develop, this phone set took 3 months. We have always liked the Uniden phones for their clarity and sound quality, but a phone that won't recharge is of little use, no matter how great the sound quality. This will be the last Uniden phone that we purchase. At least with this phone the keypad didn't stop working too, unless that will happen in the next few weeks!
