I have no idea why Uniden is discontinuing this modle. Granted, it has a couple of minor design flaws, but who doesn't. I've been in the telephony and data business since 1983, and the ELT560 and ELX500 are the best cordless telephones that I have ever used. If Uniden would fix the MINOR design flaws, and allow hook flash to be included in speed dial, they would have a winner for home and business that would fly off the shelves.

I wanted a phone that I could use with my bluetooth capable cell phone and this one works like a charm. I can call using cell phone minutes from either ELX500 (I have two) or the cell phone itself. I can also answer a cell call from any of the three phones. These phones are very light weight and comes with a holder that clips to a belt. Too many features to list here.

These phones are pricy but for the quality they perform at its worth it. I brought them due to the flip deisgn, compact as well as the cell link feature. Its great being on one side of the house and having the cell ring, which makes the house phone ring and you can answer your cell directly off that. You can set and change rings, its just great. Great feature. The phone has many other features as well, caller Id, and intercom, so much more!

I preordered this item and waited months before it became available. I loved the features: baby monitor, 2-way radios, blue tooth, VOIP capable, flip phone, etc. I paid over $500 for the base unit & 3 handsets. At this point, the only feature we can use is the speaker phone on the base unit. 1 year after we had them, the first one broke at the hinges. I contacted Uniden but our only option was to pay almost the cost of a new one for repairs. It wasn't a month or 2 longer and the other 2 hinges broke - it's just cheep plastic. We don't even have children yet - these phones were never abused. The phones are about 1 1/2 years old now but 2 won't work at all and 1 will only hold a charge for a single 30 minute phone call. I though about replacing the handsets or even trying new batteries at $22 a pop but, for the cost I think I'll opt for a new phone set. This was my first and my last uniden phone.

If it wasn't for this item being the only 5.8 GHz cordless phone with Bluetooth capabilities, I would have chucked it into the trash a year ago.

I'll admit, the design is ingenious, the features are great and the technology is cutting edge from a reputable company. However, it's obvious why they discontinued this model.

Once I flip open the phone to use it, the buttons sometimes work, sometimes they don't. Sometimes I need to yank the battery off to reset the phone to actually make it usable.

I work from home and this phone sits on it's cradle practically 24/7 with very little use. The funny thing is that it sits on my desk next to my "usable" Uniden model TRU8885 (which is great). Again, I use this phone ONLY for it's Bluetooth headset capabilities - which only works sporadically.

Would someone else please invent a 5.8 GHz cordless phone with Bluetooth so I can replace this piece of junk!

I have had two of these handsets and the base for almost 3 years (to replace my Siemens system). I have dropped them, keep them in the kitchen (phone and cook - great), have gotten them dirty, and one even has my dog's teeth marks on it.
Yeah it does feel cheaply made but if it survived that long in my house then it has proved itself. The bluetooth is great and the only reason I gave it 4/5 is because it is cranky about paring with my and my husband's cell phones - but when he is gone it is the best extension of my cell no more sprinting up stairs when the phone rings.
I have never had any call quality issues, just standard battery replacements, so the only down side is the cheapness of the feel and the display that looks like it was laid out for a moron instead of making it the features easy to find and stylish.
Too bad they haven't updated it - and I paid no where near what others on this site are saying. About 200 all said and done three years ago....

As others have posted this phone is not worth the cost. Too bad Uniden saw fit to put this product out. There must have been a huge profit margin in it for them. Will try another manufacturer's product and spend again for a home phone. The Bluetooth is the hook, the quality of manufacture is the pain. And your right, the cost of repair is far beyond commansensical.

I have owned the Uniden ELX500 5.8 GHz phone answering machine w/Bluetooth for several years, and just love it, primarily the Bluetooth feature. I don't know of any other cordless landline phone with the bluetooth feature. I needed another handset so I ordered one. I highly recommend it. No problems at all other than having to order a new battery every 12-18 months.

This was a great phone for a while. We bought it for our daughter to use until she was old enough to get a cell phone but my wife and I used it as well. The problem with the phone as several people have pointed out is a weak hinge design which after a couple of years just broke. No traumatic damage--one day the hinge just popped apart and there was no way to fix it. Too bad, it was a very nice phone before that.

this phone sucks! has no range at all. i have a business, so i need a phone that has range. when you go past 15 ft. from the base you start to hear static.
