Setting up the phone for basic operation was easy--we just inserted the battery pack, plugged in the AC adapter/recharger, and connected the phone cable to the standard RJ-11 jack. We recommend that you allow the battery pack to charge for an uninterrupted 20 hours before using the phone.
You control the features through the base unit's front-mounted button and side-mounted switch; the handset has an LCD display and 11 buttons in addition to the usual 0-9, #, and *. You may need to consult the manual to learn how to use some features, such as storing and editing numbers for memory dialing or setting the caller ID options. Still, the procedures are consistent and explained well in the documentation.
In our test, we placed the unit in a basement apartment in an urban environment. The handset functioned flawlessly to about 600 feet from the base (inside a car, no less), where it began to cut in and out. At about 1,400 feet, the handset beeped, indicating total loss of contact with the base. Long distance and local calls sounded as clear as any corded phone, and the battery lasted over four hours with continuous use.
With its full suite of features and its crystal-clear digital-spread-spectrum sound and security, this is an impressive cordless telephone.

Top-notch phone!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Uniden EXS9600 900 MHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Office Product)
I highly recommend this phone. I've experienced no static and great range. I especially like the belt clip that can be attached to the phone. This phone has a lot of extras for the price. I had purchased a Sony cordless DSS phone earlier, with less features than the Uniden EXS9600, for more money. The Sony was terrible. It experienced static and kept cutting out. I couldn't even carry on a conversation on the Sony. The Uniden EXS9600 is easy to use and can be stored in the base unit either face up or down.

This review is from: Uniden EXS9600 900 MHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Office Product)
Great phone, good reception, good range. Durable, easy to use, reliable.Would be nicer still if it also had a mute button and a lighted key pad for use at night. Still, this is the best cordless phone I've owned.

This review is from: Uniden EXS9600 900 MHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Office Product)
I have yet to find a another digital cordless (new or old) that is as clear and range receptive as this one. It's the only phone I can take with me across the street knowing I'll be able to take a call and make intelligible conversation. It's been dropped many times over the last 4 years and still it keeps "ticking" perfect. God how I wish Uniden could make a new phone with same sound quality and range as this one. They don't and it makes me sad. Long live the EXS9600.
