THIS IS A GREAT PHONE!!,

This phone is GREAT!! I wear glasses and have low vision, but do not need one of those giant BIG button phones, well this phone is superb, the buttons are big, but not too huge. heck, they look normal size to me, not so teeny-tiny like all the phone makers are making them nowadays lol. and that is what i was looking for. the 2nd plus, is that you can actually cleaarly read the caller i.d. area, it too, is larger. thirdly, as an extra bonus, the audio on the phone is adjustable. i'm not hard of hearing yet, i'm only 49, but do have one ear that is better than the other. well now i can adjust the volume to fit both ears comfortably. all in all, this is a superb phone and i heartily recommend it!

I recently purchased this phone for my 84 year-old grandmother who is a little hard of hearing and needed a cordless phone with amplified sound. We couldn't be more delighted with this model. It is well designed, easy to use, and the earpiece volume amplification feature works very nicely. The blinking LEDs make it easy to see when the phone rings, and the caller ID has large easy-to-read characters. A great investment for $50.

This cordless fone is just the one that I have been looking for -- for years. It is cordless, has a choice of 2 ringtones, each with a high/low setting -- or you can turn ringer off entirely. The best thing, though, is the light that flashes when the telephone rings; so you can have the ringer off and still see the flashing light. The base also flashes -- and it's not a tiny flash .. it's really visible from across the room. You can carry on a conversation without the annoying ring. I understand that this telephone is basically for the hearing or visually impaired, but believe me, anyone would be happy with it.
And -- it is caller ID capable, has a redial button, 10 number memory, emergency button, etc. It is an exceptional product !!!!

Easy to leave "off hook",

I bought one of these phones for my 94 y.o. mother who has nearly lost her eyesight due to macular degeneration. The phone works well enough, but the single Talk button toggles the hang-up function on and off. She can't tell very easiy whether she hit the Talk button and actually hung up. Consequently she has left the phone off-hook for many hours on several occasions. It would be better to have separate Talk and Hang-up buttons like cell phones have and also a bright red light on the phone to indicate the line is in use. The Talk button should also have a raised nipple or ring around it so that the person can easily feel when the button is under the finger.

Finally a good phone,

after reading favorable reviews of this phone online, we bought one. Finally, we have a great phone. The sound is perfectly clear. The ringer is loud enough. The caller ID display is larger than normal so it's easy to read, and I like the larger buttons. We're not elderly (mid 40's) but this phone just has a great design for anyone but is especially good for those who have trouble reading a regular caller ID display or perhaps is hard of hearing because one of the features is an optional red blinking light display when the phone rings. There is also a volume boost if you have trouble hearing the other person. I'm buying another one for my mother who is in her 80's.

I purchased this phone for my 89 year old mother who is both hard of hearing and has macular degeneration (cannot see well). She cannot hear a regular phone bell (set at the loudest setting) and cannot hear the doorbell. She is very finicky about looks and does not trust new technology. However, this phone was an instant hit. She can hear the phone ring and see the light. She also likes the looks of the phone. I too can now hear the phone in the garage, which I couldn't with our regular phone, making it a plus for me. The only issue (as discussed in previous reviews)is her uncertainty with pushing the talk button when done. However, she has not yet failed to do so and has become quite comfortable with the phone. The tone quality and clarity of the phone is excellent. The keys are easy to operate. We rarely take the phone great distances so I cannot comment on the range, but we have had no disappointments with it. This is one of the best phones designed for seniors yet. I highly recommend it if you have trouble hearing the bell on your current phone, and want a good reliable cordless phone.
P.S. This is the first birthday gift I bought her that she didn't return in 10 years - that says something by itself!

After struggling with several cordless phones which had low volume on the handset, I found this one which is nominally for the hearing- and visually-impaired. I'm sure this phone is great for that purpose. I want to tell you it's equally great for anyone with UNimpaired hearing and vision who just wants an easy-to-use cordless phone they can actually hear! FINALLY, a cordless phone that can produce handset volume you don't need a dog's ears to understand. It is a bit garish (white and red) for those who care about such things. As for me: Recommended!

This is a great wireless phone by Uniden. I bought it for my grandma whom at age 85 has difficulties to follow a conversation over the phone, or even notice when the phone is ringing.
The phone's design is great, it may not be pretty but it is very well thought with function in mind, it rings very loud, it has big easy to read buttons, and the audio quality is superb, definitely a recommendation for anyone looking for a simple to use phone to give to parents or relatives who have difficulties to hear.

I bought a 900 MHz Uniden phone in '98 or so, and it was totally fine--impressive, really. It lasted a decade before I managed to destroy it (my fault--not an issue with the phone). The range was maybe half a block through housing, the signal was clear, the battery life was great, and it was a good, clean design. I liked Uniden then, so I thought I'd give them another shot.
This phone's negatives: (1) The range is limited and the sound quality is poor, often static-filled if I'm not in the same or an adjacent room to the base station. Going into the basement one floor below the base station is problematic--never an issue with my older Uniden. (2) There's an intense red strobe that indicates voice mail waiting. The strobe has two settings. The dimmer setting is still bright enough that the neighbors across the alley probably wonder if there's danger of some explosion in my kitchen. An LED would have been much more appropriate, and used less power. (3) Emergency, 911, is a single button. Why place a button people will seldom use in a place where it could easily be accidentally pressed? Are they concerned that as I age I won't remember the number of the local 911 service? (4) The ringer volume buttons are on the handset, right where someone picking the phone up would naturally place a thumb. I've had to repeatedly readjust the ringer volume just because I've picked the phone up to make a call. (5) The phone generates much more heat than the older Uniden. It's not enough that I'm concerned about the lifetime of the phone, but it is enough that I make sure to unplug it when I leave town for a few days since it's apparently drawing considerable current. Positives: (1) I used to prefer mechanical ringers because they're louder. This one's plenty loud. (2) Give me a while, and I might think of something else. OTOH, it'll probably be a negative, not a positive. So, I bought this three months ago and still feel that I need a new phone. Good Will will get this one soon.

The phone was easy to set up, with an adjustable ringer and speaker volume control. The flashing red light on top of the phone leaves no doubt when there is an incoming call. Instead of having it on the table, we have it mounted on a slanted platform in the kitchen.
