My greatest concern when buying this phone was the clarity of voice. I was not disappointed. Voices seem clear and natural and loud enough to present no problems whatsoever. There is no static on either the main phone or handset number 2.I was delighted to find that after hammering in some twenty names and phone numbers into the main phone that all this data, as well as the time/date, transferred easily into handset number two. The 20 ring choices give plenty of interesting rings and music from which to select. The phone is small and light, much like a cell phone, which makes it easy to hold for long calls. The display and keypad light up with a very bright orange illumination which makes calling and moving about within the menu quite a breeze. So I don't sound like a shill, I have tried to find something about the phone I do not like, but so far I have not come up with anything. I highly recommend this system, and the Amazon price is about the lowest I've seen. Worth every dollar. Now that I have experimented with the phone for several days, I like it even more. I can walk a block away from my house and still maintain a clear contact with my party. I have added new names and phone numbers to the phonebook and can easily send these changes to the second handset. Initially I sent all the numbers and names to the second handset. What a time saver!! The speaker phone works fine, though I rarely use this feature. Voices come across loud and clear but a bit hollow, but I have found this to be the case with most speaker phones. There are many features I shall probably never use--such as the walkie-talkie option, voice mail, etc. Still not a dribble of static. This is one hell of a great phone system for the money. I shall now cast my two Panasonic phones (with a mere 10 memory phone book) into the outer darkness.

Wow- I LOVE this phone! This is by far the best phone I have ever had. I have had Panasonic and V-Tec digital cordless models before- each had problems. With the V-Tec digital cordless phone- the sound was so low that I had trouble hearing people on the other end -- even with the volume turned up to the very loudest! This Uniden is, in my opinion, the absolute best digital cordless phone out there. It is crystal clear- and the volume is plenty loud enough. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

A Cordless Phone System That Actually Works!!,

We have gone through many cordless phones in our house, and each one has had its own weaknesses. We have owned this system (base unit plus four phones) for a couple of weeks now and I have not heard any static or noise at all. Everything is very clear. The system has some very useful functions. For example, you can take two of the phones to the mall or amusement park and use them like walkie-talkies. You can also page between handsets if you want to talk to someone in the other room. I used this the other day when I got out of the shower and I need my wife to bring me a towel from the laundry room! I didn't think I would use that feature, but it came in handy! My wife complained just a little that the handsets are very small. She likes to hold the handset on her shoulder to keep both hands free. I explained that she could use a headset if she really wants to, but she thinks that would be too complicated. Anyway, this system works very well and is the first cordless phone system we've owned without any problems.

These phones do everything I wanted:- have several "non-irrating" ring selections - can select special rings for specific calling numbers - can answer by removing from base OR by touching any key - display lights up nicely - works great for Caller ID AND actually works for Call Waiting! - has 10 speed-dial settings - 2nd unit does NOT require phone line connection - clear connection - can intercom between both phones - each phone can become a speaker-phone for hands-free use - possible to add two more phones to the system

I really like that you can select from some ring tone that is not annoying. Very feature rich. People have already gone into that so I won't. But if this phone doesn't do what you want, I'd be surprised! No issues with clarity or muffledness that someone else complained about. I really like that you can set Global features that effect all phones. These also have fairly long talk time / battery life. I've talked for two hours during phone meetings and the battery indicator was still full. I also really like that there are multiple visual indicators on the handset that flash when the phone rings. You can mute the rings and still see that someone is calling.I do have a 802.11b WiFi network and these phones do reduce the signal strength of my D-Link USB Adapter, but not the Intel Centrino product. Regardless, the link quality of the D-Link remains unaffected and I haven't noticed any performance issue. Just note if you are using a 802.11 b or g wireless network, you might be impacted by using these phones. One thing that may bug you is that the buttons are small on this phone. I don't mind. I like the compact package it presents, but I could see where it could annoy others. I think these are really worth the money.

Uniden has been a leader in the feild of communication electronics for ages now and this phone set is by far the best one I've had yet. It's very user friendly and won't make you feel like the phone is smarter than you (even though it is!). Holds an amazing amount of phone numbers that can even transfer from one handset to another. Entering and storing names and numbers is easy. Transfers calls back and forth between handsets and makes life so much easier.Being disabled, this particular phone system has all the features I could ever want and more. Not only am I impressed by the electronic itself, the price makes it twice as delicious. I challenge you to find a phone system with as many great features, the same reliability, and the same low price. It just won't happen.

The best 2.4GHz I've found,
By A Customer
This review is from: Uniden DCT 646-2 2.4 GHz Expandable Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Caller ID (Office Product)
I've been through through probably around 5 or 6 different 2.4GHz phones, ranging from $30 all the way up to $110, only to return them back to the store in favor of my old 900MHz phone. I don't run a wireless system through my house, yet all the previous phones had static all through the house to some extent, or those that sounded good at close range to the base but were horrid at more than 20 ft. After buying this phone the other day for $78.98, I just feel in love with it. I've been looking for a nice 2.4GHz phones with one that did not require a phone jack due to lack of one in one of the rooms I often. So far, the only problem I've had with this is the fact that it is a bit small and I like to hold the phone against my shoulder, but that is more than easily taken care of by the speaker which is a big help. Another downside to the speaker system is that when you talk with the speaker on, the phone automatically turns off the receive so you can't hear them as you speak. I would recommend this to anyone with it's wide verity of options, it is a phone to last for years.

Great Cordless Phone for the Price,
By Annabelle (Saint Paul, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Uniden DCT 646-2 2.4 GHz Expandable Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Caller ID (Office Product)
I did a lot of research before purchasing a cordless phone and decided on this Uniden model after reading many reviews. I bought the phones in September 2005 but wanted to use them a while before writing a review to make sure I didn't have problems after a month.I have had no problems with reception, static, dropped calls, etc. Every once in a while there is a hollow sound but it is minor and never lasts. I love the second handset and extra charging cradle. Now I can have a phone in the kitchen even though I don't have a phone jack in there! Just stay away from a running microwave while you are on a call....this is common in most cordless phones in my experience. So far I have experienced a long battery life on the handsets. I like the bright orange illuminated display, phone book and transfer feature, message waiting indicator, ear piece volume control (for those callers that are afflicted with "cell yell"), and the ringer volume control. The phone is small and light (like a cell phone), but can be a little tough to cradle on your shoulder. However, there is an option for a headset attachment or the speaker phone option works very well if you need both hands. In my opinion this is the best phone for the price.

Pros and Cons,

This review is from: Uniden DCT 646-2 2.4 GHz Expandable Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Caller ID (Office Product)
I have this thing here are the plusses and minuses:Pro --- Pretty clear sound speakerphone on handsets Easy to read lightup display headset friendly some nice phonebook features where you can copy phonebooks between handsets you can pick up answering machine messages from handset new message indicators on handsets intercom function is handy in a large house includes a sort of walkie talkie feature in addition to intercom takes a total of 4 handsets, extras are $30-40 each. no wire needed for handset. Only base station needs a phone wire. handsets come with charger If you use the musical ringers the phones will not ring on the first ring. This is a "pro" for me because I have a computer that hangs up on certain caller-id numbers/strings but only after the first ring. Don't seem to interfere with 802.11G WiFi Cons ---- baby monitor function is no substiture for a real baby monitor. You can only use it on battery at the receiver and it makes a load "shirp" at the receiver when activated potentially waking up the baby. The battery will not last the night in baby monitor mode so it's only good for daytime naps and such. I sometimes use it at night and have to switch handsets at around 3:00Am when it complains about low battery. This is unfortunate because it is much clearer than my existing baby monitor. small handsets, hard to rest on shoulder no way to adjust ringer on intercom/baby monitor it's loud!

This is a great phone. I've gone cheap with cordless phones before and always end up throwing them out or they break (which is why I bought this one).Decided to go with this phone based on the reviews and the reviews don't lie. I just bought the 3rd handset because of the great "Transfer" feature on the phone. No more yelling up the stairs for someone else to pick up the phone. Just press a button and it rings to the other phones. So awesome. The speaker phone works great for when you are in the middle of a good computer game and the pizza place puts you on hold for 10 minutes!! Well....that's the only thing I have used it for so far... The ringtones are a nice touch also. I can set the bedroom phone to a nice quiet ring and the others to loud or regular rings...or the star spangled banner. The phone is light and small (little bigger than the old nokia cell phones) and is very clear. The phone lights up with a very cool orange which is very easy to read the black text |
