Gret phone with a minor setback,
This review is from: Uniden 5.8GHz Expandable Water-Submersible Handset Phone with Call Waiting/Caller ID (Office Product)
This phone is definately a step up form the previous model, but it still has its flaws. The new phone has many new features that i liked especially the 5.8 mhz band. A clear and bold LED display makes it easy to see at most angles and lighting conditions. The speaker phone is a nice addition to this phone. The 1 setback that they didnt or couldnt improve on both the older and newer models is, the moment the phone gets wet, water fills the mic and earpiece. This makes it virtually impossible to hear and talk on this phone. The only way to remedy that problem is with a big gust of air from your mouth or to bang it on your hand to knock the water out. Same thing goes for the speaker phone. Other than that, it makes a very convienient phone to use pool side or even in the shower.

Compared to the previous model, WXI377, which I've owed for over two years, this model fulfilled most of my wishes what the older model lacked...
For example, 5.8GHz digital spread spectrum is much more secure than the old 900MHz analog. Now the keyboard is also backlighted as well as the display. The onboard speaker is nice and comes in handy. You can expand the phone to have more handset(TWX977 will give you the very same handset) and have features like transferring a call, page, intercom and conferencing, etc. Phonebook has much larger capacity, and now you can store two numbers per name, and personalize the ring tone... Some same old problems still exist. The old WXI377 when it was submerged in bathtub, the cavity around the earpiece speaker would be filled with water that blocked the sound. I had to shake it vigorously get the water out, otherwise the volume would so low it was hard to hear the other party. The new model is still the same way, and shaking the water out would take more effort, seems to me. The chain dialing still only works when in a call(when you are connected, you can bring up the phonebook and dial another number. Works well for dialing a phone card access number first, then the real phone number from your phonebook). If you start by keying in a few digits, like "#0P"(I have a 2-line switch, #0 will access my other line. P is for a 1-second pause), you can't get in the phonebook and bring up another number onto the screen to concatenate them together then dial all at once... The one area it screwed up is the redial number. On the old phone when you display the number by pressing Redial, you can hit Delete button to delete the last digit by each press. So you can edit the number by getting rid of the extra digits last time you entered when on hold and "press 1 go to this menu" or "press 2 for voicemail", etc. The new model does not allow you to edit the redial number. Hit Delete will wipe out the the entire line. This is the only problem I can remember now, that doesn't exist on the old model before... UPDATE 6/22/08: If you want to expand, you don't have to buy the TWX977 Accessory Handset. Just buy another one of this, then set the base to a dumb charging station just like the TWX977, and deregister then register with the existing base (this what I've done. I've got two of these, ready to get a third one now). This way, if your old WXI477's base goes south, you can activate the other(though charging will be a minor problem, as you'd be left with one base and two handsets. But the system will still be functioning/limping.) My first was bought a year ago and second in Feburary of '08. So far, the first one's rubber piece surrounding the display, has deteriorated to make the two look not just half a year apart, but more like a couple years of use. The oil on my face has caused this, though I don't feel like I got particularly greasy face...

excellent for having by or in the pool. Also no concern if you accidently leave it outside during rain or humidity, it takes away the worry of accidently getting your cell or cordless wet.

This telephone should be a REQUIREMENT for anyone who wants a wireless telephone that can ACTUALLY be used outside or anywhere that is wet. Worked excellently upon receipt and in all locations since getting it and being placed into service. Plus, it still works after I dropped it into the pool a couple of weeks ago. Also this telephone "FLOATS" in water.

Fantastic phone. The best built phone I've ever owned, hands down - even better than some of the early Panasonic 900 MHz phones which were built like the proverbial tank. I mean, how many phones have their back cover attached with eight stainless steel screws? You hit someone with this and they're down for the count - and you'll be able to call the cops with the phone afterwards.
And the ergonomics! The big rubberized grips are superb. The large display and the soft, translucent buttons light up in bright orange, and there's a concealed red led on top which flashes when its receiving a call. There are no battery contacts on the handset and no charging holes on the base unit because, being waterproof, the charging is done via an inductive (magnetic) coupling. Programming it is a snap. The menuing is perfect, very intuitive, and the buttons all feel "right". The speaker phone function is possibly the best ever made - you can walk around while you talk, switching from normal to speaker function, and the other party will hear NO DIFFERENCE. None. And since the speaker is on the rear there's absolutely no feedback looping, even on max volume. You can even use it on your ear while the speakerphone function is working - simultaneously. It will stand upright also. If Porsche or Lexus manufactured a phone, it would be this one. It kicks "A".

I bought this phone in the hopes it would survive my daily beating of dropping it on the ground in the hot-tub, being left outside in the rain etc...etc..! So far this phone has taken everything I have dished out, I wish I would have bought this phone a long time ago I would have saved quite a bit of money.
The call clarity is excellent and the features work flawlessly as most Uniden phones I have owned. The only thing I would add to the phone is a headphone jack..this might defeat the purpose for water proofing but that is the only thing I can see that is lacking here.

We accidently left it outside overnight, and it rained. Has never worked since! I took it apart and dried it out. Left it off the charger until it was decharged. Put it back on the charger and it charged, but still won't work. Not so "water proof" for us.

Well built & durable cordless phone!,
This review is from: Uniden 5.8GHz Expandable Water-Submersible Handset Phone with Call Waiting/Caller ID (Office Product)
I just bought this phone, not because I have a pool, but because it just felt so heavy and durable compared to all the others on display. The sound quality is fantastic & programming numbers into it was a breeze. (I previously used a highly rated AT&T cordless phone, and that one is now in the garbage...) This Uniden phone is extremely well built and comfortable to use, plus it looks cool and has many convenient features. I highly recommend it!

We had been shopping for a phone which has lighted numerals AND caller ID. Good luck with that! Uniden has these features and more in this phone. GREAT JOB! We have had this for a week now, so we are still learning how to navigate through everything this does. The fact that it floats doesn't mean beans to me. It would be a cool feature, if you need an aquatic telephone, I guess. The lighted numerals were important for us for use as a bedroom phone. Most cell phones light up in the dark, so why don't more regular phone manufacturers offer this feature?? Anyway, we are happy with our purchase!

Uniden 5.8GHz Expandable Water-Submersible Handset Phone with Call Waiting/Caller ID I purchased this phone about 2 months ago and I absolutely love this phone! It works great, is easy to program, has clear reception anywhere on our 1 acre property and is comfortable to talk on, not to mention it floats! We have had numerous phones that look great, but don't perform when you get them home. This phone has exceeded my expectations.....
