I pretty much have to agree with all that has been said previously. It's easy to use, compact and provides tremendous range. 2.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy TRUC46 if you use a laptop with a Wireless Card
When I bought this phone I had to decide between TRUC46 and Plantronics CT10. I decided for the Uniden because it looked nicer, lighter and the 2.4GHz is newer technology. Well, the problem is that this is the same frequency used by the 802.11 Wireless Cards. So, to make it simple, if you have a laptop with a Wireless Card (or intend to have one) do not buy 2.4GHz...

I bought this phone as a result of the reviews I read here and would like to thank all those who took the time to explain its benefits. I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

Rather than repeat all that has been said previously I'd like to share an experience I had today while using it. I work from home, but live about 150-175 yards from my office. I needed to walk down their today and decided to keep the phone with me to check its range. To my surpise, it rang while I was inside AND I was able to answer! The clarity was very good as I stood near the entry door and did not start to break-up until I went further inside. That's pretty darn good. Especially if you consider my regular 2.4ghz Sony breaks apart soon after I pass my front door.

Buy this phone if you are looking for a cordless headset that will give you range and clarity in an easy to use small package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent phone for home office, January 23, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Uniden Neo Cordless Headset Phone - TRUC46 (Office Product)
I am a full-time telecommuter working out of my home office. I used to use the Plantronics CT-10 headset phone (similar to this, but 900 mhz), but after we moved to our new house, the Plantronics phone started picking up a radio station in the background if I used it in my office (extremely annoying). After some research, I found this problem might be fixed by upgrading to a 2.4 ghz phone. I was totally spoiled by all the features of the Plantronics CT-10 phone, though, and had a hard time finding something comparable in a 2.4 ghz. I searched all the electronics/office stores, but couldn't find what I was looking for. I wanted a very small unit that I could slip in my pocket or clip to my waistband w/a headset, very good sound quality, mute button, and caller-id. Seems simple enough, but I couldn't find anything that met the criteria until I searched and found this Uniden phone on Amazon.com. After waiting over a month because it was backordered, it finally arrived and I love it. It is even smaller and lighter than my old plantronics phone. I did not like the headsets that came w/it, but just plugged my old plantronics headset into it and it works perfectly. A great buy, also! Highly recommended!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Smaller than I thought, better than I'd hoped, February 10, 2003
This review is from: Uniden Neo Cordless Headset Phone - TRUC46 (Office Product)
The most striking thing about this phone is its size! While researching on the net I couldn't find any reference to its dimensions, even on Uniden's website. It is literally the size of a credit card and 1/2" thick. It's smaller than any cell phone I've seen, and fits easily in any pocket (it also comes with a belt clip).
Performance is first rate (which I have come to expect from Uniden) although the headsets that come with it could be better (they're a bit muffled). I use a headset I bought previously to use with my cell and it works great. It has every function I could want including redial of the last three numbers called (haven't seen that before).
Range is not quite as good as the full sized, Spread spectrum 900 Mhz Uniden I had been using (i.e. it's quite good but not phenomenal) but I believe that's a function of the 2.4 Mhz technology. I have had no problems with interference even though I am 4 miles across a body of water from a navigation radar that has interfered with other wireless devices.
Minor negatives: the mute button must be pressed for a second to kick in; that makes it less effective as a cough button, which is what I use it for. And all the buttons require a firm press, which because of the tiny size makes dialing a bit tedious, but keeps you from accidently pressing a nearby button or from its being activated by getting squeezed in a pocket.
All in all, I'm very impressed with this phone, especially in light of the very reasonable price.

BTW, I called Uniden and they confirmed this story and told me there is nothing that could be done. I wish I had seen an warning anywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tiny phone fits the bill, December 19, 2002

I make a lot of phone calls. In a typical month, I place 100 to 300 calls from my home office doing a specialized type of investment research. Yet, I'm up and down from my desk all the time, so a cordless phone is essential. (I use a Plantronics M145 headset, which is also excellent (see my review on that product's page.).) I had a very nice Panasonic 900 mHz cordless that was configured very nicely, but no matter how careful I was, it would end up slipping off my belt and falling on the floor. (I've retired the Panasonic to my wife's desk and she enjoys it very much.) The Uniden truc46 is so small I can slip it in my pocket, yet it has clear sound and lots of convenient features. I have been using it for nearly a month, and it has worked flawlessly. It is an excellent phone and well worth the investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is exactly what I was looking for!, June 20, 2003

I work from home and participate in many conference calls. I needed to be able to use a headset because holding a phone to my ear for the duration of a conference call made it hard for me to also look up information on my computer and also made my elbow ache. I tried using headsets on my cordless phones and the quality was very poor.

The Uniden TRUC46 is great! I can hear better during a conference call than with any other phone that I own. The over the head type headset is excellent. I have had no complaints from anyone that I've had a phone conversation with in regard to the quality of the microphone - which did happen when I tried headsets on my other phones. They don't seem to notice that I am using a headset!

The over the ear type headset is of lesser quality. I can't hear as well with it and the microphone does not pick up as well as the over the head type. This is too bad because I would prefer to use the over the ear type.

I really like the distinctive ring option because when the main office calls, I don't even have to look at the caller id to know that they are the ones calling. The vibrate option is also great because I don't have to worry about being able to hear the phone ringing. This is very handy when I am mowing the lawn and waiting for a call.

This phone has given me a lot more freedom to do the things that I need to do than any other phone that I own. I don't know how I ever lived without it!

The small size is great! It can fit in a pocket or, with the holster attached, I can hang it from the collar of my t-shirt because it is so light.

I LOVE THIS PHONE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little phone, March 9, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Uniden Neo Cordless Headset Phone - TRUC46 (Office Product)
I purchased this phone for use in my home office. I have lots of very long calls (45 - 60 minutes). So, I was looking for a phone I could move around with.

My voice sounds great over it. I've checked with people that I have talked to and they've all said I sound crisp and clear. The reception is also wonderful. Everyone sounds as clear as their own phones will transmit. I have used the handheld set away from its base all over the house and still have clear reception. I have not tried it outside so cannot comment on that particular aspect of use.

As a prior reviewer mentioned, the mute button has to be pressed and held for a second or two before the call is muted. I didn't realize that the first time or two I tried it. Luckily for me, I didn't do anything embarrassing before I realized I was still "live".

The keys are extremely small. They can be difficult to deal with. I either use my fingernails to dial or the eraser end of a pencil. For me, this is the most negative thing I have to say about the phone. The phone does have lots of memory storage. I have put in all the numbers I use as a matter of course & then it is a matter of scrolling through memory to find the correct number.

The size is great for me since I have small hands. I have found myself carrying it in the palm of my hand, even when I have it in the holder. It is comfortable for me to do so, rather than clip it to my belt. I don't wear shirts with pockets too often, otherwise I would probably put it in my pocket.

A nice feature (for me) is that you can type in the number before dialing. In this manner you have a chance to correct any mistakes before connecting to a wrong number.

All in all, I am pleased with the purchase and would buy it again.

After much comparing ordered this phone and used it for the first time yesterday and I love it! The ear piece is really nice and the phone itself is lightweight and easy to use. I used to use a headset with my old phone but really like having the options here. I work at home and use a headset and can even have the little ear piece underneath the headset while I work to take calls. Very cool! Have been asking each caller if they can hear me okay and they have all said yes. Also, I can hear them fine too. Am glad I chose this phone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent though flawed, February 5, 2004
This review is from: Uniden Neo Cordless Headset Phone - TRUC46 (Office Product)
I agree with all the positive assessments of this phone.

One major problem:
It does not play well with the Linksys 54g.
When receiving a phone call this phone will sometimes break your wireless Internet connection.

Attempts to change the frequency on the Linksys router and channel on phone do not provide more a few minutes solution to this problem.

I hope Uniden comes out with a 5.x frequently version soon, so I can upgrade mine.

For the moment, you may wish to think twice before purchasing this phone if using a Linksys 54g (2.4ghz) wireless router.

Currently, we have seven of these phones in use at our business (and slowly increasing), and all of the people that are using them, love it. As a Help desk/IT support person, this phone has boosted my productivity level. Since our company relies upon
sales, and most of our sales is via the phone, many in our sales force are using this phone and are very pleased with it.
In fact, I am writing this review prior to purchasing yet another Uniden TRUC46 phone.
