5.0 out of 5 stars Great Radio, October 12, 2001

This review is from: Uniden PC68LTW 40 Channel CB Radio with Front Mic (Electronics)
This unit looks and works great. Installation was easy and the performance has been great. Has all the adjustments that I was looking for plus the weather channels. I didn't really want the weather channels at the time of purchase, but I'm glad I have them now.

The cosmetics are great -- chrome dials, silver face, green back-lighting, analog signal meter.

The unit is not a compact unit, but I was able to fit it under the radio in my '96 Ford Ranger without too much trouble. The 9' microphone cord seemed really long to me when I saw that on the spec sheet, but it is actually about perfect.

There are a couple of downsides: The Dynamic Squelch Control is completely useless. As far as I can tell, it just automatically sets the squelch to a higher-than-appropriate level. With DSC on, you miss all low-powered transmissions and some high-powered ones. DSC works great if you're only interested in a ~300' radius. I never turn mine on.

The other downside is that it's nearly impossible to determine the knob positions by sight. That is, you can't easily look down and see that the volume is at 1/2 and squelch is at 1/8, e.g.

Neither of these downsides are that big of a deal, though.

BTW, I use the RF Gain control much more than squelch to fine tune my reception. Don't buy a CB radio without RF Gain.

This thing has great clarity, both transmitting and receiving. However, make sure not to skimp on your antenna.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top of the line, April 11, 2007

This review is from: Uniden PC68LTW 40 Channel CB Radio with Front Mic (Electronics)
This is a really nice CB radio. I love the Dynamic Squelch Control, the RF Gain control and the Mic Gain control. I had enough room to install this under the dash in a new 2005 Chevy 1 ton dully. I run this CB with a Wilson Little wil antenna. That antenna is OK, but I would recommend a bigger antenna such as the Wilson 500 or 1000. The lighted display looks nice at night and I also like the weather channels.
Cons: You are unable to see where any of your knobs are set at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CB, Awesome backlighting, Quality AUDIO!, January 15, 2008

I have had this CB installed for 3 months now, and use it daily. I had mine peaked and tuned (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) so it is loud and clear out to 10 miles average easily. The Dynamic Squelch Control works great if the channel is clear, or if you lower the RF gain to cut noise. It only lets through what you can hear clearly anyway. If channel is busy, manual squelch works better. It's very versatile. Noise reduction is much better than some other CB's I've used. The perfect CB for my needs.

PROS: Dynamic Squelch Control is useful function most of the time;
Clear Audio from stock mic(seems to be better than most stock mics);
Noise reduction (NB/ANL) works great;
Weather channels (7), PA function, RF Gain, Mic gain all useful

CONS: Dim switch doesn't dim the knobs/switches lights, only the meter
and channel display - not a problem for me, but useful to know;
Doesn't have an ANT warning light for high SWR

I would certainly buy this CB again. I will again recommend a peak/tune because that really cleans up the audio and receive, adjusts squelch sensitivity, and mic signal for clean, clear modulation. It makes the CB perform to its maximum ability within legal limits.

4.0 out of 5 stars Uniden PC68LTW 40 Channel CB Radio with Front Mic, March 15, 2011

I've always used Uniden 2-way radio products since the 70's and have never had a problem with any of their products. This Uniden is no exception and hopefully it will remain that way. I have no reason to think otherwise. The Uniden PC68LTW has a professional look and feel to it, even though it is a mid-priced CB Radio. The speaker is loud and clear and, although I was going to add an external speaker, I now don't need to. It's that good. The back lit dials are absolutely great, especially at night, but they are good even on dark cloudy days too. People receiving a signal from me have stated the power is good and the modulation is great too. I guess for $79, I can't ask for much more. I would recommend this brand and model to friends of mine (and have...) I also appreciated the fast shipping and decent deal made here on Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars A solid performer, November 17, 2010

This review is from: Uniden PC68LTW 40 Channel CB Radio with Front Mic (Electronics)
I use this radio right now as my daily mobile radio. It is an attractive unit in the classic style that works very well.

I would prefer a radio where each knob had its own function instead of having a inner and outer switch because if the radio is not right in front of you it is possible to turn the wrong knob; ie turn the mic gain down instead of the RF control. But that is the way they are making the radios these days.

The noise filter works very well on the radio; I do not hear any ignition noise at all with it on. Even though I have the radio wired directly to the battery, if I did not use the ANL switch it would be annoying to listen to.

The PA function is nice as well as the weather bands. The weather bands are really handy for long road trips when you want to keep an eye on the weather in the direction you are going.

The stock mic works; it is not anything to write home about, but they rarely are. A good power mic will really help boost your output. The RF Limited CR577 is a good choice.

Keep this in mind though when you buy a radio: get the best antenna possible. Hight is Might.

You can buy a $400 radio & it will positively suck if you hook it up to a cheapo antenna. The Little Will you read about in some radio reviews is just an okay antenna; good if you just want something to pop on the roof for a road trip to know what is going on around you. If you want to talk to people a bit further though you will want something better; the Wilson 1000 for instance.

Also invest in a SWR meter, they are not expensive and will save your radio. A antenna not tunned will toast important things inside your pretty radio.

4.0 out of 5 stars Satisfied, January 8, 2012

I bought this CB for my husband for Christmas. He really likes the radio the only downfall is that it took quite a bit of time to fine tune. Once the radio is fine tuned the distance is close to 5 miles. One of the reasons I purchased this radio is for the weather ban feature. I thought it would be useful in nasty weather having access to up to date weather information. He says the weather ban feature is very nice and he has used it several times. He likes the information he is able to receive on the weather ban. Overall we are very satisfied with this radio.

5.0 out of 5 stars quality, December 8, 2011

I havn't had a cb in years, but need one now. I did much research, and reviews, and I'm very happy with my choice. The only thing I didn't like was the auto squelch control, but manual control is easy anyway. The weather channels are important to me, the unit looks great, I might upgrade the mike at some point, but not nessesary. For the money I got a lot of cb for reasonable cost! Very happy!

The delivery was very promt, the unit showed up in perfect order.

This is my first cb radio and it has been a learning process, but I love using it. I finally have it setup the way I want it and it works great. Mr Electric

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CB, May 24, 2011
This review is from: Uniden PC68LTW 40 Channel CB Radio with Front Mic (Electronics)
I recently purchased this radio from amazon.com because I wanted a CB for road trips/caravans. I did a lot of looking before I bought one and I decided on the Uniden PC68LWT, because of the price and features i.e. RF gain, WX receive, WX alert, NB, DSC.... The radio is not real fancy, but has enough features to make operating pleasurable. The NB works good at removing electric fence and engine noise too. I am an amateur radio operator and have to say I was really impressed with the receiver sensitivity compared against high end HF radios (note: I don't illegally operate on 11m with ham radios). Yes it is not a SSB radio, but I don't really care a whole lot about 11m SSB anyway. if I want to work DX then I can get on the HF ham bands. For the money and features I would say that the Uniden PC68LTW is a very good buy.
73,
Sam

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice All-Around CB Radio, October 1, 2006

This review is from: Uniden PC68LTW 40 Channel CB Radio with Front Mic (Electronics)
This is a really nice CB radio. I love the Dynamic Squelch Control, the RF Gain control and the Mic Gain control. I had enough room to install this under the dash in a new 2006 Chevy Impala. I run this CB with a K30 antenna. That antenna is OK, but I would recommend a bigger antenna such as the Wilson 500 or 1000. The lighted display looks nice at night and I also like the weather channels.
Cons: You are unable to see where any of your knobs are set at.
