Quality Radio for Cheap,
By "slim6596" (Florence, Ky. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Uniden PC78LTW 40-Channel CB Radio (Electronics)
I recently bought one of these radios for my semi tractor. I immediately fell in love with the backlit controls. Years ago, I owned the Cobra version of this radio, but I didn't like it as much as this one. The controls are laid out very logically and have a nice feel. The Delta tune has a center detent for "eyes free" operation as you drive. The weather channels are a welcome addition to a long drive, keeping you informed of changing and/or severe weather ahead. The only things I didn't care that much for are the Dynamic Squelch feature and the front mic connector. DSC doesn't seem to work too well, but I drive with the squelch off (to hear distant signals), so this doesn't detract from an otherwise great radio. Having owned various Cobras, Galaxies, and other "big" radios, I can honestly say I like the Uniden PC78LTW the best.

I am a first time buyer of a CB radio and did quite a bit of research on them. For the comparision of features to value this is the best radio that I found. The main features that drove me to this model was that it has squelch, gain and weather features. Not to mention it is very nice to have the backlit knobs at night.
It installed very easily and works well for my needs. I have it installed in my Dodge Ram 3500, for recreational purposes only. I use it for trips with the family and talking with some other buddys that have CB's in their trucks. I am not sure how this radio stacks up for commercial drivers but for someone that is using it as a hobby or just wants to monitor trucks, weather and general conversation while on trips it can not be beat, in my mind. I would recommend this radio and I would buy it again. The only down side that I have found is that the Mic. seems a little cheap compared to the radio unit itself. This is not a big deal and I will use the Mic. until it breaks, then upgrade to a little better Mic. All in all a good buy and quality product! Todd

Years ago, nearly everyone had a CB radio in their vehicle and possibly one as a base station at home. Technology has since placed a decline on CB's. Or has it? I bought this radio just as soon as I got home from a vacation in Alabama, this spring when the massive tornado swept the state. Putting it bluntly, if you did not have a CB, you could not communicate with anyone. Cell phones were often without service and land lines were wiped out. WI-Fi was non-existent. We were on our own.I was stunned to survive the tornado, only to witness travelers stranded at service stations even as far north as Birmingham. There were no Walt-Mart stores open, no grocery stores, no gasoline stations or truck stops open. And, no way on earth to find out if there were someplace further along the road that may be open. Travelers from other states low on fuel, simply wandered around gas pumps at every truck stop in a daze. We were four hours from any restaurant, restroom or gas station. We made it to Tennessee only by the kindness of Truck drivers who had CB radios and could tell us what places were open in Tennessee. Almost all of Alabama was shut down. It is a lesson well learned. Despite emergency preparedness and technology, everything can go fizz when mother nature strikes. And power may not be restored for days or even weeks. Survivalist or just plain concern for your family, I recommend you buy this Uniden radio. A great value for a life-saving device to have on hand everyday or in an emergency. Lots of range to connect you with Truck Drivers and emergency officials, crisp clear communication and easy for any family member to operate, and easy for you to install. |
