5.0 out of 5 stars How Good Is This Handset/SpeakerPhone?
So good that callers do not even know I am on a speakerphone when I am on this handset outdoors, 100 feet from the base.

With two line operation, and a host of features, this phone is genuinely incomparable

2.0 out of 5 stars Not without problems
Most cordless phones theses days are a dissappointment. The Uniden TRU8866 and TCX860 are an improvement in usability, but still have some serious shortcomings.
1. Their microphone reception are very faint (to point of inaudability) on Hello direct and Plantronics headsets that work fine on other phones. Uniden's answer is "buy a Uniden headset." Right. Box doesn't...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Addition to the TRU8866 System! Very Satisfied., March 31, 2005

This review is from: Uniden TCX860 Accessory Handset for TRU8866 Expandable Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
This is NO April Fools review! I had an older Uniden 2-line cordless system that developed some problems, but, after some online research, I decided to try this TRU8866 system. I was pleasantly pleased. The clarity of the sound is wonderful! Most people that I talk to can not tell whether I'm on a corded phone or a cordless. The features are well thought out and well integrated. One early-on bonus was that you can easily copy the phonebook that you enter in one handset to the base or to other handsets. It is very easy to add Caller ID info to your phonebook. The two-line operation is intuitive; no intruction book is necessary! Another neat feature is that each handset is a wonderful, hands-free (clear as a bell) speaker phone! I'm back at Amazon to order some more TCX860 Expansion Handsets. The system is great. As far as durability and longevity, only time will tell.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good phone to use with VOIP, August 31, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Uniden TCX860 Accessory Handset for TRU8866 Expandable Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
We briefly had this phone hooked up to land lines before switching to VOIP, and we found voice quality excellent. It's still very good now that we've switched. It's loaded with features - many of which we don't use - but the ones we do use (caller ID, 2-lines, speakerphone on both handset and the base) are very intuitive.

One quirk (and hence only 4 stars): Some have complained about range. We have discovered that if two are talking on the phone and one is close to the base, the one further away cuts out. (We bought two remote handsets as well as a base.) If we're both the same distance from the base, sound is OK, even when we're both away. So, if you're both talking to a grandkid at the same time and one of you is very close to the base, the other might get mediocre to poor sound. We have found the range adequate across our 2-bedroom 2-floor condo. Phone even works well out on our patio with the base about 75 feet away and through metal doors - as long as we're both out there.

We also have a wireless network and notice no interference. We have friends who have 2GHz phones next to wireless, and they have intermittent reception problems. Get 5.8GHz if you also have a wireless computer network.

I extensively tested multiple phones including this TRU8866 and the Panasonic KX-TG6502B which seem to be the 2 leading products on the market and the main difference is that the Panasonic is capable of making announcements to all the phones (e.g. a call to dinner which is broadcasted to all sets without them needing to pick up the set) but other then that the Uniden was just as good and is even more expandable. It also has the ability that you can take the set into the mall and use them as walkie-talkie. I decided fot the Uniden because it cost almost half compared to the Panasonic and have to say that I am extremely pleased with the quality. The speakerphone on all sets and the base-station is superb, the user interface (buttons) are placed very well and logically, the range is great within the whole house, no conflict with my computer network, etc. In fact the quality of the base station speaker and microphone is even better then my expensive Polycom station which I will sell. As a 2 line phone with a nice size and form factor it is so far the best I have ever owned. I use it on my Voice over IP equipment and have 5 handsets throughout the whole house. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good units at good price, September 28, 2005
This review is from: Uniden TCX860 Accessory Handset for TRU8866 Expandable Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
These are very nice aesthetically, durability appears to be good and the only feature shortage I attribute to the base unit, not the satellite handset like this (that feature shortage is a handset locator). I have bought numerous of these and am quite impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, the best out there, September 26, 2005
This review is from: Uniden TCX860 Accessory Handset for TRU8866 Expandable Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
For years I've been looking for a 'better' cordless, I've bought at least a half dozen... Siemens, Motorola, V-Tech, etc... I'll just save you some time and tell you that this Uniden system is the one to get, it blows all the others out of the water. The only thing I can possibly come up with as a shortcoming is the fact that you cannot use the speakerphone in intercom mode. Thats it! Everything else is perfect. Just match this handset to the base of your choice... corded or cordless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking for a phone without an answering machine, July 12, 2009

This review is from: Uniden TCX860 Accessory Handset for TRU8866 Expandable Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
I purchased this phone system and accessory handsets to be used in my business. I own a very elaborate, independent answering machine that serves my needs beautifully, so the phone system that I wanted must be compatible with that answering machine. Interestingly, I have gone through two phone systems, and both have had the same problem: the answering machines sometimes spontaneously turn on. So, we have missed very important calls because we have overlooked the fact that there were additional messages on the phone system. Yes, I know what you are thinking. We did call customer service at both companies, and the answer was the same: "we never heard of that problem before". I came to the conclusion that I needed a phone system without an answering machine. So, after an extensive search, I found the Uniden system, and it works great. I have a rectangular, 1000 sq ft office with four internal, metal-framed walls and the range is just fine. No static, no problems. Best wishes with whichever system you choose!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally...A phone system that works!, June 7, 2008

This review is from: Uniden TCX860 Accessory Handset for TRU8866 Expandable Phone System (Black) (Office Product)
We've gone through more than 7 phone systems in the past 9 years. Either the batteries didn't hold up, the frequency interfered with or was interfered by our wireless networks, the sound was horrible...you name it. We bought the TRU8866 about a year and half ago, and it's WONDERFUL! No issues with clarity, it works as a two way radio away from the base, you can use the handsets as baby/room monitors... it has any bells/whistles you need. The best part? One of our handsets was left in the rain...(yeah. I did it.) and we were still able to find a replacement, which is what this is. We also purchased the bright yellow waterproof handset to help me avoid having to replace more phones. This is an awesome system with very few drawbacks. Even after a year and a half, the batteries in our other four handsets are still holding a charge, which is nearly unheard of. I expect the same from this recent purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nearly Indestructible!, May 17, 2008

We use these phones at our Adventure Jeep Rental business and have found them to be nearly indestructible! Due to the nature of our business, the phones repeatedly get knocked off our belt and hit the ground. They have flown across the street, spent an hour in water when the phone fell into our wash bucket, they have landed in the mud and have even been completely run over by a Jeep....And they always keep working! Sound quality and range are excellent. We love these phones!
