5.0 out of 5 stars Best 2.4GHz Phone So Far!
My Siemens 2410 phone started to act flaky after about 1.5yrs, so I went shopping for a new phone. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great phone until you use a headset
I agree with the other reviews but when I use a headset, my friends complain that it is hard to hear me, a basic platronics headset with a microphone sensitivity switch set to max was an improvement but not sufficient. I have tested these two headsets with other phones without a problem. Uniden's customer service answer was to try their own headset but I fail to see how...

This review is from: Uniden TRU-446 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Graphite) (Office Product)
My Siemens 2410 phone started to act flaky after about 1.5yrs, so I went shopping for a new phone. One feature I hated about the Siemens was the button "feel" - one had to press a couple of times for the number to register and it became annoying when trying to dial in a hurry. The range was also suspect, especially prominent when 50ft+ away from the base. I went to some local electronics store and saw the Uniden TRU 446-series.

My main concerns were voice clarity and range. The Siemens phone frequently exhibited a "muffled" sounding voice according to the party calling me. The Uniden was superior in this respect - callers were surprised when I told them I was talking to them on a cordless phone. The voice clarity is *that* good. Range was also much, much better. I can now frequently go 50ft+ without any signal degradation and I have a lot of potentially disruptive devices in the signal path, i.e. microwave, computer, etc. The buttons were also great - it has a nice tactile feel as opposed to the mushy feel of the Siemens. The phone is also light and the slight curvature of the handset shows the designers were concerned about the phone's ergonomics.

I can't recommend this phone highly enough - Amazon also has the best price in the market currently, and no sales tax & free shipping as well!

4.0 out of 5 stars good phone, December 16, 2002

I replaced my panasonic with this uniden because the panasonic was acting up ,it was a 900 mhz digital spread and the uniden is a digital spread also but it operates at the better high 2.4 ghz. so it should have an increased range but it starts to break up at the same distance the panasonic did, perhaps this is because the companies are advertising the frequency they use but not the power output leaving us still somewhat in the dark. I must admit though that the panasonic had a much better range than I thought it would in wich case the uniden seems to have an ok range and this uniden has a lot of features for a phone in this price range including ni-hm batteries that have no memory so you don't have to tell people not to put the phone back in the charger if it doesn't need charging yet, that's a good selling point to me and I would have bought it sooner if they advertised the battery type a little better. And the ni-hms last a long time. So despite the slight if any increase in range over my panasonic the uniden has to many other thing going for it at that price so I have to give it a good raiting.

Uniden has a winner in this model of TRU446 phone. Clear as a bell on incoming or outgoing audio... I'm getting over a 2000 foot range from my house. My friend purchased a panasonic at over 230.00 and this TRu446 out performs it in every way!!! I highly recommend this phone for price and quality. IS OUTSTANDING!!!! ...Received phone in two days shipped standard ups from vendor...

I agree with the other reviews but when I use a headset, my friends complain that it is hard to hear me, a basic platronics headset with a microphone sensitivity switch set to max was an improvement but not sufficient. I have tested these two headsets with other phones without a problem. Uniden's customer service answer was to try their own headset but I fail to see how that is going to help when it cannot compare to the quality of the Platronics.

This phone has terrible sound, a constant backround hissing. I recommend the analog Uniden EXI 376 instead, which has much clearer sound and costs half as much. I own both (although not for long, the TRU-446 is going back). Do yourself a favor and don't buy this model.

From the time that we bought this phone, we have had problems. Our phone does not always hang up the connection when ending the call. The phone connection will stay open leading us to unplug the phone line and reconnecting. This occurs whenever we use the phone - making a call or checking our messages. Also, when we moved, our message light indicator quit working. It just started working again this week and now the light will not stop blinking even after we have cleared our messages. Nothing but problems! We should have returned it early on.

3.0 out of 5 stars Digital Spread What? Who? How?, November 30, 2002

...I shopped around and found that the uniden tru-446 looked to be a good deal at [$$$] for a "digital spread spectrum" (DSS) phone [local store].
The research i went through indicated that the DSS technology was capable of transmitting 4-5 times farther than your basic analog or "plain" digital cordless... [The phone] picks up no better. Works okay otherwise i believe. Looks okay, feels okay. Feels solid. But don't bet on DSS solving your transmission problems over longer distances.
