poor performance,

This review is from: Uniden TRU-8885 3HS Cordless Speakerphone 5.8GHz (Electronics)
I tried this system for two days. Several times when I tried to answer a call the handset would say "Connecting ..." for 30 seconds or a minute before I could talk on the call. Other times when I was 15 feet across the room from the base station the handset would say "out of range". If you push the "Talk" button again while the handset is connecting with the base it hangs up the call.
Also, you can not use the intercom feature with the speaker, which was annoying.

Rebooting Base Problem,

This review is from: Uniden TRU-8885 3HS Cordless Speakerphone 5.8GHz (Electronics)
As reported by the other reviewer, the base of my phone reboots every few calls. So people hang up and don't leave messages because it takes too long for the answering machine to pick up. Or it takes an annoying long amount of time to get a dial tone as you wait for the base to reboot. I thought I was getting a good deal on this phone from Costco. Boy was it a mistake!

Power failure sensitive,

I bought this product a few years ago. Aside from a problem with static the base unit and handsets work satisfactorily. The static could have had something to do with some other equipment located nearby. I do wish the handsets had a power saver mode (could be turned off). Overall I found the unit sufficient despite various flaws.
A few days ago an auto accident knocked out power to the area I live in. After a five minute complete outage the power came back at a low level (florescent lights worked but devices that needed more power didn't). The base unit was on a power conditioner (versus cheap surge protector) but when the power came back the base unit just rebooted itself continually and the handsets couldn't connect to it except for the split second it was running before it rebooted again. I looked on the Internet and found similar complaints (that after a electrical sag (brownout) the base unit would continually reboot). I can fool with it and get it into what appears to be a maintenance mode interface, but without some idea what commands to give it to reset I'm stuck. I emailed the Uniden tech support center and two days later they sent me an email saying it was broken and included a link to a page to buy a new base unit (uh... yeah right). There is also a similar Panasonic unit in the house and it had no such problems with the outage and in general works quite well. This is the second high priced ($150+) Uniden telephone product I have personally owned that has proven to be poorly designed in the end (always seems like software problems). This base station obviously needs a reset button. I plan to replace the TRU8885 with a Panasonic in the next couple days. My advice to anyone that has a (working) TRU8885 is that if you have a UPS for your computer try plugging it into that because the UPS shouldn't expose the devices plugged into it (the battery powered receptacles) to electrical sags, that will also keep it running during a power outage so your phone still works.

If you are looking for a phone that only works 1 of 10 times this is the phone for you. It will go into a mode of saying "Answering" and it is definitely isn't answering. You must unplug and disconnect the phone line from the jack to reset it. Also, when you try to make an outgoing call it says "Connecting" and maybe two minutes later you will get a dial tone. DO NOT BUY this phone, I plan to return it.......

The phone is great, very clear and the last phone with extra handsets we had; the handsets could not be used at the same time. You can use all of these and the speakerphone on the base if you wish.
The one con I found is that you need to enter long distance numbers with the 1-area code in phone book but caller ID on the phone doesn't identify them because they process the number without the 1. Do I have something wrong-don't think so.

I have owned this phone for so long I can't remember when I purchased it from Costco. I came on the site today looking for battery replacements and saw all the negative reviews and thought I better post something better because I swear by Uniden phones. For the longest time I thought there was something wrong with ME and magnetic forces because I kept having phones break down with great regularity -- until I switched to Uniden. In my opinion these are great reliable performers, and I've only replaced them when the GHZ increased which helped with the phone reception.

I bought this phone over a year ago and we still think its a great phone system. After reading all the reviews for both the uniden and panasonic, I went with the uniden. Like a number of reviews, I experienced some of the same problems but now know that it was the batteries that were failing to accept a charge. Two of the phones took 24-48 hours to fully charge and one never did. I ended up going to Walmart and buying a replacement battery which charged within 24 hours. After that, I get excellent reception anywhere in or outside my tri-level home and have not had any further problems with the batteries. I especially like the feature that allows you to assign a ring tone to assigned numbers in the phone's phonebook. I have the Star Spangled Banner assigned to family members. I highly recommend this phone system.

19 minute battery life no matter what,

My handset is placed back on the charger every time I'm not on the phone and still it only has a 19 minute battery life for a call. This is the second battery that this phone has had and I don't plan on buying another one for it. Stay away at all costs!

One year and still going strong...,

After several problems with other brands of phones, I purchased this about a year ago from another source (I believe it was even a refurbished set), and it has worked great for me. I am only giving it 4 stars because after about six months the battery on one of the sets stopped holding a charge and needs to be replaced. I have recommended this set to my family and friends, and in the future when it comes times to replace my own I will most likely buy Uniden again.
