Uniden quality, but not for everyone,

This review is from: Uniden TRU346 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Titanium) (Office Product)
The TRU346 is an excellent phone in most respects...the best of all DSS phones I've tested. The range is excellent and it's futuristically attractive, but the bottom line of any phone is its ability to provide loud & clear send/receive voice quality, and unfortunately, this is where the 346 fell a bit short for me. The maximum earpiece volume isn't quite loud enough and everyone I called with it said my voice sounded good but "far away" even though my mouth was directly in front of the mic. Thinking it may be an isolated problem, I got another 346 but experienced the same thing. The other problem I had with this phone is its width and the rubber grips on each side. I have relatively small hands and during lengthy conversations, the comfort level would quickly diminish because the handset is just a little too wide for me. The bottom is squarely cut off and became annoying when resting in the palm of my hand. The rubber grips are a good idea in theory, but to me, they make the phone feel "sticky", especially in humid conditions when my hands weren't perfectly dry. It's just a sensation I didn't like overall. The 346 has excellent range, CID, lighted keypad, nice design, etc but I want the best and clearest sound possible for both myself and those I'm calling, as well as comfort for lengthy conversations, and it just fell a bit short in these areas. I realize the 346 is a big seller at Amazon.com, but it won't be the perfect phone for everyone.

Excellent phone, excellent price,

With this phone Uniden has eliminated an annoying design issue with previous models where it was very easy to brush the Talk button with your cheek and hang up on the person you were talking to. Now the button is recessed. Sound quality is very clear, and range is good - you can walk out of your house and a block away and only have minor static interruptions. In your house you may as well be talking on a corded phone, there is no difference in sound quality. The display and memory/speed-dial functions are a bit weak compared to what you see on cell phones today, but they compete with other cordless phones. This isn't very important to me, since I store numbers on my cell phone and not my home phones, but if it is extremely important to you you might want to look at other phones. All in all I think this phone is an excellent value, and Uniden phones in general are good quality.

After accidentaly incapacitating my old uniden 900mhz model, i decided my next cordless would be a 2.4ghz model, with caller id. Happy with my previous experience with Uniden Phones, I purchased the TRU 346. Its an all around great phone. I decided to test its "extended range" and indeed it is far; I successfuly used the phone around the block from my house. The clarity is great; Digital Spread Spectrum virtually eliminates static. Its an all around good phone.

Uniden TRU346 2.4 GHZ DSS Titanium Cordless Phone Caller ID,
By A Customer
This review is from: Uniden TRU346 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Titanium) (Office Product)
I've found the clarity of this phone to be superior over my 900MHZ. I haven't encountered any static problems and the clarity is the same as you get from a corded phone. The distance that you can travel with this phone is also exceptional. It has some nice features such as a large backlit display, pager, volume control and an automatic timer that let's you know how long your conversation lasted. The reason I didn't rate this phone 5 stars is 2-fold: 1. The design of this phone places the entire display area of the phone directly against your face. This creates the need for frequent cleaning of the phone because of make-up smudges, oil, etc. 2. This phone can't be operated when your using a microwave oven or other similar appliances because it creates too much interference.

Best overall value in cordless,

If you need all the bells and whistles, look elsewhere. If you need the features that most people need and actually use, this is a great value. For the most efficient layout, easiest programming, best quality of construction, best sound, best package of features.I've had Sony, At&T and Panasonic cordless phones, and none have provided the overall value and quality the Tru346 has. Since I spend several hours a day on the phone (home office), I've hooked up the Plantronics M-175 headset, maxed out the volume, put the phone in my pocket, and enjoy mobile and hands free usage with excellent clarity. Enjoy.

A Good Choice for a Bedroom Phone,
By
This review is from: Uniden TRU346 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Titanium) (Office Product)
The Uniden TRU 346 Titanium Cordless Phone is a good phone. The sound quality is very good compared to other brands of cordless phones. I must say that when it comes to cordless phones, Uniden is the best brand. I already owned a Uniden TRU246 2.4 GHz cordless phone, and it is the best phone I have ever had. I first tried out my 346 in the living room, but when I took the handset outside, I discovered that it did not work at as long a range as the 246, but it does indeed have a long range. The sound didn't start to get fuzzy until I got across the street. I ended using my 346 in the bedroom, because I don't usually carry my bedroom phone off as far as I do my living room phone, and this is an excellent phone for the bedroom because of the way the handset sits upright in the base. You can just reach over and pick the handset right up. I looks attractive too. If you are looking for a cordless phone with good sound quality and a fairly long range, the 346 is a good choice.

Is it just me, or are there a whole lot of [poor quality] telephones for sale out there right now? After my four-year-old Sony cordless died, I bought a couple of the new models only to get them out of the box, charged up and discover. . .they are not worth the packing material they came in. Back to the store they went. An AT&T model (sorry, I can't recall the model #) had truly horrendous sound quality. The Uniden TRU346 is an exception. Excellent ergonomic fit (for my hand and head anyway) and crisp, clean sound. It has useful features and a simple button layout. The backlighting is bright and a good feature if you ever have occasion to dial in a dimly lit area. Based on limited exposure (I've only had the phone a couple of days) I am very happy with it.

I bought this based on reviews here. I am returning the phone. The features of the phone are nice, I like the feel and look of the phone. The size is good, the buttons are very workable. However! The sound quality is awful. It's far worse than my old no-features cordless AT&T 900 MHz phone. It's worse than my cell phone. If this is the best of the 2.4 GHz phones, I'm not buying one and I'll deal with the sticky keys on my AT&T. I'd rather have the sound clarity. This phone has a very hollow and tinny sound. And if someone was speaking quietly it would be hard to hear them. I can't recommend this phone if you are concerned with sound quality. If you just want features and a pretty phone, then you'll be fine.

Excellent phone compared to its peers,

I bought this phone from [a local retailer] after having tried 3 other 2.4GHz phones at the same price point (GE27930, VTECH 2420, Panasonic low end). By the time I opened this phone, I was carefully keeping each part of the packaging in anticipation of having to return the phone. After the mandatory 20hour charging period, I finally tried out the phone and was very surprised by the sound quality. While the other phones exhibited static, white noise, very low transmit and/or receive volume, or feedback of my voice into the earpiece (which made for a weird echo), this phone's sound quality was exceptional, even out on the driveway. My room is down in the basement, but I was able to walk to the furthest room upstairs without a loss of signal quality (the GE, for example, gave me static as soon as I was 20ft away from the base, and was completely useless upstairs). As far as the other features are concerned - I don't have CallerID, nor do I plan on using the directory, since my cell phone stores my numbers. The only things that I would have liked to see would have been

All flash, no bang.,

It takes much more than pretty packageing to make a good phone. This is the second 2.4 GHz Uniden model I have returned. Both suffered from a horrible echo when spoken in to. It sounded like a three way conference every time I made a call - and I'm usually partial to three ways! The buttons on the handset are poorly laid out - I usually hit two or three buttons with my thumb when addressing the navigation buttons. It does look cool though...
