5.0 out of 5 stars My opinion On this Phone
Good phone has many features that a cell phone has, variable ring tones, phonebook, and you can also listen to messages from the handset. Keypad has a nice feel and the speakerphone works just fine from a distance. As you have read before it is a must if you use 8011.b wireless your computer. I want to clear up some roomers.

1.) "5.8Ghz needs 10 times the battery...

1.0 out of 5 stars This phone sucks!!
I live in a loft across from train and commuter train tracks in a semi-industrial area. The phone has worse range than the 900 I had -- about 20 feet from my door. I have an outdoor entrance. The reception also sucks. Don't buy it. I should have tested it more thoroughly.

1.) "5.8Ghz needs 10 times the battery power to get the same range as a 900Mhz." This may be true but from experience the batteries in this phone last twice as long as a new batteries in my 2.4 or 900mhz phones in the past (this is probably true due to the fact the battery is larger). One thing I like is the phone uses NIMH batteries, which you can't screw up by recharging all the time during half charge. True, NIMH batteries are not the best flashlight batteries but who doesn't use a phone everyday.

2.) "5.8Ghz radio waves are absorbed in walls and surroundings much more than 900Mhz and 2.4Ghz. This means wall penetration in a home is poor." Who cares, trust me I walked half a block away and could still dial in and hear conversation fine. I you ask me it means better privacy. I don't think anyone is going to have a problem with this phone as far as reception and interference goes, maybe in 2 years from now when the 5.8Ghz spectrum gets crowded you may have a problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little phone, July 30, 2003

The price is a bit high for what you get, but it's one of the few options that won't interfere with a WiFi network. Reception, voice quality, and answering machine quality are all good. I was also surprised by how well the speakerphone worked, both on the base as well as the handset.

Only a couple of things prevent me from rating this with 5 stars. First, Caller ID is only displayed on the handset. Second, I wish there was a real battery gauge rather than just a low battery warning.

In all, you won't be disappointed with this machine.

Just got mine and no reception problems, nice range, and no interference with my wifi network. Only limitation is that it can have a max od 2 handsets, but I live in a 1 bedroom condo, so no biggy.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice features but not always best sound, September 11, 2005
This review is from: Uniden TRU5885 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID & Answering System (Office Product)
the handset speakerphone is great, but you must be close for your voice to be heard on the other line. the volume is generally weak compared to other phones. it's best feature, however, is it's 5.8GHz frequency. there's virtually NO interference from other electronic devices. i also very much like the almost invisible antenna. can't see it, can't break it . . . the phone's bright orange display is also very cool, not to mention the phone's similarity to a cell phone. the answering machine records very clearly and the remote operation is easy to learn. overall a GOOD phone!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but needs improvement, October 28, 2003
This review is from: Uniden TRU5885 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID & Answering System (Office Product)
I was rather disappointed with this phone for the following reasons: The buttons on the keypad are way too small. I had to use the very tip of my fingers to dial numbers.
It doesn't wall mount - although this may not bother others.
When using the phone, the sound I heard was wonderful, and the range very good - BUT several people that I spoke with complained that my voice sounded 'tinny' and distant. The last complaint\issue is one I have had with all of my cordless phones - there is no backup power for the base unit. Everytime there is a power outage, the time and date have to be reset.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent features, poor range, February 16, 2006
This review is from: Uniden TRU5885 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID & Answering System (Office Product)
I think the other users of this phone have covered well enough the features of this phone. The main problem with the phone is its range. I feel that due to it's poor antenna on the handset your range is severely cut. I've found that I have to point my head in a certain direction for the break up of the signal to be lessened.

Pros that I found:
Voice message feature that hangs up after playing is nice.
Buttons and screen are easy to use.

Cons:
Range is poor.
Expandability seems to be limited to two handsets.
Price is no longer competitive with other products out there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great feature set, Poor Talk Quality and Range, September 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Uniden TRU5885 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone with Caller ID & Answering System (Office Product)
The phone has received high marks from several sources, which is why I bought it. It has terrible range! It clips the voice into pieces which is very hard to understand. I have a brick house which I would consider of average to small size. I cannot go into my basement with it nor into my back yard. I only wish I had spent more time testing it within the 30 day return period. I will be replacing the phone soon. IF THERE is anything you get out of this review, it is to make sure you have the time to put ANY cordless phone through its paces during the store return period.

Also something that is annoying is you cant make a call from another area code from the caller-id list without hitting the * key so that the phone will append a 1 in front of the phone number. I have called customer support and that is the way it is designed.
