Amazing Amount of Capabilities, January 5, 2005
This review is from: Uniden TRU8880-2 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Phone System with Dual Handsets and Answering System (Black/Silver) (Office Product)
This phone has EVERYTHING including the crucial remote call screen monitoring which many other phone makers have done away with! I can't believe manufacturers don't include this on phones anymore. Well UNIDEN has!
Also amazingly included is: Room monitoring and Walkie-talkie ability, and a handy Do-Not-Disturb feature!
The only thing wrong with the above is it rings your phone too when being activated. This is a no-no! It rings two short ring but it is annoying when in a store or monitoring a sleeping baby. Incredible goof by Uniden! Quite possibly this "ringing" might be for privacy purposes warnings for the other party.
Another thing missing is a "quiet" feature to turn off warning sounds like above or to do adjustments silently. Can be handy sometimes.
The sound is excellent and very clear, both when speaking and listening. The room monitoring is very sensitive and you can pick up amazing sound.
Another annoying thing is that there is a slight delay in the ringing of the extra phones from the base ringer. This delay sometimes is disconcerting.
The walkie-talkie ability is capable of over 1 mile (according to Uniden) but only in line-of-sight. I had mixed results. In some areas I could go deep in a store and still remain in contact. In other areas where this is lots of obstruction I could not get the same reception per distance. All in all, I still think it is better than nothing. You can always move around and see if you can make contact instead of walking back to the car to talk. So it's better than nothing.
I found out if there is a lot of criss-crossing type of obstructions between two phones the reception was non-existence.
Another annoying thing is that when the phone rings it does not light up the keypad and LCD when you pick it up. Gasp! A big oversight by the manufacturer. But hey, most cordless phones don't even have key lights!
This phone covers near all bases and then some! I am giving it 5 stars despite some oversight by the manufacturer because this is the only phone that I know of that has everything I was looking for (and then some)! Did I mention the handsets can even become speakephones!!

Looks Better Than it Works, September 16, 2004
This review is from: Uniden TRU8880-2 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Phone System with Dual Handsets and Answering System (Black/Silver) (Office Product)
I bought this phone to replace a Uniden 2.4GHz. I figured that it would be an improvement over the 2.4GHz and I've long been a fan of Uniden. Boy was I wrong. It does have some nice features. I especially liked the speaker phone in the handset and the Directlink 2-way radio capability. However, no amount of features can make up for the terribly low range. I positioned the base unit away from all of my other electronics as the instruction booklet suggested. However, I still started to get static in the line a near as 20' from the base and lost the line as close as 30'.
BTW - When I contacted the Uniden customer service, I spoke to a rep and received no help. In fact, they were very "put out" by my questions and I was treated like an idiot. Not pleasant.
I would suggest avoiding this phone.

Good Features - Know How To Use Them, June 6, 2006
This review is from: Uniden TRU8880-2 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Phone System with Dual Handsets and Answering System (Black/Silver) (Office Product)
While some gripes about this phone are warrented (silent mode, etc), some gripes I've read here are not. One user said you couldn't dial long-distance - but if you press # or * while viewing a number, it will add a 1, or remove an area code - swapping the visible number with alternate modes of dialing - very useful! Also love the fact that I can have one base and one phone line, and have 10 handsets located throughout the house. I can page any room. Now if my wife would put the handset back on the base when done using it, I could page that room without it ringing halfway across the house :)
I do wish the handset you were paging *from* would not ring also. It does make locating phones a problem.
