4.0 out of 5 stars Good phone with some niggles
As far as I can tell, this is just a cosmetic change from the previous range of 5.8Ghz phones from Uniden - I already have that with the answerphone integrated and it was the reason for my purchase. In hindsight, I wish I had purchased the more expensive unit with integrated answering machine and speakerphone on the base unit as well (see "Bad" below)...

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of features, but lacks range
After doing intensive research to replace my 2.4 GHz cordless phones I opted for the Uniden TRU9460. It's the sleekest design of the whole series (the others have terribly bulky bases) and it's truly abundant in features (Caller ID, stores up to 100 numbers, distinctive rings for the numbers you want, LED indicator at the top for incoming calls or new messages). Perhaps...

This review is from: Uniden TRU9460 5.8 GHz Expandable Compact Cordless Telephone with Call Waiting and Caller ID (Office Product)
As far as I can tell, this is just a cosmetic change from the previous range of 5.8Ghz phones from Uniden - I already have that with the answerphone integrated and it was the reason for my purchase. In hindsight, I wish I had purchased the more expensive unit with integrated answering machine and speakerphone on the base unit as well (see "Bad" below).

Good:

1. Speakerphone function of the handset is excellent. The voice quality is great. This is one of the main reasons for buying this phone.

2. It's a 5.8Ghz spectrum phone, which means it doesn't clash with my wireless network like 2.4Ghz does.

3. It looks good.

Bad:

1. This is why it only gets four stars: When it is docked in the charging cradle you can't use it. This is extremely irritating especially if I use the handset heavily and deplete the battery. I have to plan when to cradle the phone in order to make sure it keeps an adequate charge. This might not be a problem if you keep the phone base nearby, but mine is in an attic office with my VOIP box and Internet connection.

2. Doesn't work very well with a headset. This seems to be a common problem with wireless phone handsets - when you plug a headset in people can barely hear you. I had to purchase a Plantronics headset with an amplified microphone in order to get a working solution.

Update: I purchased an additional handset for the phone - model number TCX905. My major niggle is now moot, as I can charge one handset while the other is in use. An additional bonus is that the handset can also be registered with the other line in the house if I need to use it with that phone. It's an older Uniden phone but I'm still able to use the newer handset with it. All in all I would recommend Undiden to anybody looking for an attractive handset, good feature set and good sound quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Phone with a lot of features, June 18, 2006
By
This review is from: Uniden TRU9460 5.8 GHz Expandable Compact Cordless Telephone with Call Waiting and Caller ID (Office Product)
This phone is very solid and has a lot of useful features. I have owned it for a couple of days. Here is what I think:

[PRO]

> It has a 3-bar battery indicator, so I can see when the battery is full, medium, low and when it is time to recharge.

> It has an orange flashing light on top of the phone that flashes when there is a message in the voicemail; very convenience.

> It has a speakerphone

> There is an one-touch programmable voice mail access button

> You can save 100 (two number each) contacts in the phone book

> The LCD contrast (adjustable) is great, very easy to see during the night and day.

> The battery lasts for 5 hours conversation and 7 days standby.

> It has a nice aesthetical and ergonomically design

> Also it has, two-way communication with other handsets, and room monitor and it shows the last three numbers dialed.

[CONS]

The only complain I have is regarding the Caller ID. It only shows the number of the person calling and the phone does not associate those numbers with your phone book. So if in your phone book you have Dan Tel. 212-555-5555, when Dan calls you all you can see is only his telephone number 212-555-5555 and not the name of the person. This is very, very annoying. This is the reason why 4 stars only.

I can live with that because people normally call me to my cell phone. But if you mainly use your landmine phone, this could be something to keep in mind when purchasing this phone.

Good Luck!

If you need the security of a 5.8 DSS phone that's simple with great quality, this is it. Great sound; no weird muting like another brand I had, I can always hear the other person. The handset speaker phone feature is really convenient. A prior reviewer mentioned the Caller ID name is not displayed, but if you subscribe to an ID service with name display, Caller ID Deluxe here, the name is displayed on all inbound calls when available. A lot of nice features in a small package. Very happy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful phone, October 29, 2006

This review is from: Uniden TRU9460 5.8 GHz Expandable Compact Cordless Telephone with Call Waiting and Caller ID (Office Product)
I have always had uniden cordless telephone and have always liked them. I had purchased this one to replace my 2.4ghz uniden cordless telephone which would interfere with my wireless modem on my computer. This one doesn't. I also like the feature of the intercom feature. My daughter has one of the handsets downstairs in her room and if she isn't on the phone, I can contact her to talk to her.

My daughter also likes the mute feature where she can put somebody on hold if she is on the phone to ask me a question so that person on the other end doesn't hear her.

The phone has many other features but those are 2 usefule ones I like along with the caller ID.

Bought this one as a backup to the main base that has the answering machine and much more functionality. I love the ability to see and answer when you have a voice message from any one of the handsets. Additional handsets are a breeze to set up. Just put it in the base for 5 seconds and it's registered! Had it for a few months now and have had no problems. I had a chance to call customer service. They were very responsive and knowledgeable and in the US!

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of features, but lacks range, January 20, 2007
This review is from: Uniden TRU9460 5.8 GHz Expandable Compact Cordless Telephone with Call Waiting and Caller ID (Office Product)
Perhaps my favorite features are the room monitor, intercom and directlink. The monitor allows me to place a handset on one of my kids room and eavesdrop whenever things get too quiet at home. With the intercom I can reach my wife in the kitchen without shouting or interrupting my reading in my bedroom. And the directlink works as a two way radio (like walkie talkies). I personally haven't used it much but I still think it's a cool feature to have.

The two things that didn't impress me about this phone are the range and the sound clarity. I just don't feel that 5.8 Ghz gives me a wider range spectrum. I've placed the base in the exact same spot where I had older phones and the signals start to breakup around the same distance from the base as my my 2.4 Ghz system. The sound clarity is not much better than my 2.4 Ghz VTech phones, which by the way, never interfered with the wireless network I have.

Overall this is a nice upgrade, and since technology is always pushing us forward (there are very few 2.4 Ghz cordless systems being offered now) this is a solid 5.8 Ghz cordless systems.

The Uniden TRU9460 has been very reliable. Distance is great. Clarity is amazing. Also does not interfere with other 802.11 devices in the home. Finally, used with the Uniden TWX977 waterproof phone as a base with the same results. This has been a worthwhile purchase which has exceeded expectations.

I brought this phone as a gift for my mom and she is very pleased with it. It seems to be a very sturdy, quality product. She likes the display, the diferent ringtones and the fact that you can change the settings on the way you answer (to push the talk button or just answer by picking up the receiver) and the reception is very good. Her only "complaint" was that she thought the ringer volumn was not loud enough. I will have tocheck that out though.... it can probably be increased. I plan to get one for myself as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe not as good as I thought, September 24, 2006
This review is from: Uniden TRU9460 5.8 GHz Expandable Compact Cordless Telephone with Call Waiting and Caller ID (Office Product)
Update March 08: Same key failed on the replacement handset:(

Update August 07: The 4-way function key on one handset failed. Uniden sent a replacement. I had to pay $10 shipping. I'm afraid the other handset will fail right after the 1-year warranty period.

Original Review, Sept 06: Best phone I've ever had. Good clear signal everywhere in the house. Lots of nice features. Up to 100 memory locations for storing frequently called numbers (I only need 20). Programmable ringtones so you know who is calling as soon as you hear the ring.

This was listed along with the Uniden TRU9485-3 apparently as an expansion set. This is a free-standing, functional system. (To be completely fair, Amazon was fantastic about taking it back.) The phone system itself is fine. The distance is only fair, but the quality within the house is good and the handset is comfortable to use. The readout is easy to see and the menus are intuitive. Again - the only real gripe is range.
