I bought this at Sam's club based on the easy setup. I didn't realize it does not have a built in recorder, but that is not a major issue since it can be hooked up to a computer or recorder. I currently have mine hooked up to a spare 20" tv with built in VHS recorder. I really like the features like scan, zoom, low light, and voice. The main defect for me is that the picture quality is pretty low definition - for example, you can tell that someone is standing at your gate, but you can't make out their features(zooming in actually makes it worse). I understand that this is a trade-off for the cameras being wireless; the video image is converted to mpeg format for transmission, and is low resolution to save bandwith. I'm hoping to find a compatible higher resolution camera, or may end up returning it and going to a highher resolution hard wired solution.

I purchased this system from Sam's Club. Their price is $260.00 I had never used a security system before and I found this one to be ideal for my home and experience. It was extremely easy to set up and works great! I have one camera set up at least 100! from my house and the monitor picks up just fine. I had no problem installing the software, very user friendly. I would like to purchase a good DVR, but know nothing about them. If anyone can help me with that, would appreciate it.

I was looking for a video baby monitor and the uniden system is the best option for the money. I had looked at most video baby monitors and even the pricey ones could not compare to this system.. we keep the monitor in our bedroom and one camera over each crib the other camera over looking where our dogs sleep. We use a separate sound monitor for the babies because the sound is not the best when monitoring multiple cameras. Set up was easy, night vision works great and it was the best thing we ever bought for our babies. We are looking to add a fourth camera but the are a little pricey at 75.99 without shipping.......hope this helps

Great little system. Came with 3 cameras and I bought a 4th. All hooked up wirelessly and easy. I dont use it for recording which it can do one camera at a time with the included computer software, but it is great for monitoring areas of your home or yard you cant view from inside. I put the monitor in the bedroom and its great for checking outside. I have 2 front yard and 2 rear yard views.

I too purchased this product at Sam's, and found it fairly easy to install. The video is low resolution, but you may find it nevertheless useful. The IR used for night vision seems to be quite useful out to about 20 or 25 feet - a nice feature. The receiver and each camera use no more than 5 watts each.

Now for the bad news. The computer software supplied to allow your computer to sound an alarm and/or record the video from a selected camera (can be changed each hour) might work on your computer (Windows only), but on my Vista/Home Premium computer it will run correctly until the end of the day, then it gets weird, really weird - even Task Manager cannot shut it down, you have to shut the computer down and power up from scratch. Customer service claimed to have never heard of this before, and had no solution. Hard to believe!

The system can display or record only one camera at a time except for the ultra low resolution quad camera display which you probably won't find useful. Unless you activate the computer program, there is no alarm function - so who is going to peer at the monitor continuously?

Don't buy this system without thinking through exactly how you plan to use it. I wanted to know what was going on with my mail and newspaper deliveries/losses. This system was no help.

I was given this set almost 2 years ago as a gift (I love it). Because of my age I don't get out much. This allows me to enjoy/see the outdoors and hear the birds and animals. I purchased this as a gift for one of my daughters. We live on acreage and this allows us to see who/what is approaching our homes.

If only the seller would have written more info. about this product, it would have save me the trouble. Items were shipped new - I, myself, have not opened the packaging of the items. However, I started reading the manual and it stated:

"DO NOT EXPOSE IT TO RAIN OR MOISTURE." Furthermore, "DO NOT EXPOSE THE EQUIPMENT TO HIGH TEMPERATURES, AND AVOID LEAVING THE EQUIPMENT IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT FOR MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES. HEAT CAN DAMAGE THE CASE OR ELECTRICAL PARTS."

This is gonna be a problem for me. I had planned to place a camera on the side of my house near the backyard. The camera would not face direct sunlight, but my backyard receives direct sunlight yr. long. Since I live in Vegas, temperatures in the backyard (shaded or not) could reach as high as 118 degrees (F) during the day for the entire summer months (May-Sept.) In addition, when it rains here in Vegas, it pours hard! I hate to return it, but I can't use it for its sole purpose, which is to record the actions of the vandals next door.

Hope this review helps.

I thought this system was complete. Needs PC running other than Vista.

My main beefs are as follows:

1) I thought this system would record. NO. Must have a PC running XP or Win 7. So if you don't have a computer running this you are SOL. (I don't), In order to make the sucker work as anticipated (eg RECORD motion activated video) you must purchase a PC as well as the Uniden surveillance system - bringing it up to the price for a stand alone digital recording system.

2) My Mac will run Win 7. (nice, Eh?), but I still can't use the software!
NOTE WELL: the software is on a minidisc - so YOU CANNOT PUT IT IN A SLOT TYPE optical drive, guaranteed to break it. PS, other reviewers give the software poor ratings, I won't comment.

3) No availability of internet access to the data without tweeks.

4) you can't use your laptop you take with you because in order for the system to be a) motion activated and b) actually record, you have to leave the computer hooked up to it. It is the COMPUTER that is the RECORDER.

This last is relates to my key complaint - by the time you buy a computer to be part of the system, you may as well have purchased a good DVR system which is complete in itself! And again, it does not have IP address for remote accessing.

For those who want it anyway, read this: http://socialimagination.blogspot.in/2013/03/configuring-uniden-camera-system-to.html

Two other adverse observations: When attempting to use the "indoor camera" (flat one without the weather shields), it has a stand foot to prop on flat surface. This broke off all too easily as I was pulling into the deployed position. I did not force it I was being careful - it broke anyway.
