Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description For those of us who suffer from huge cell phone bills while we travel or from outrageous landline bills from international calls, help has finally arrived. Thanks to a unique partnership between Uniden and Vonage, there's now a convenient and viable alternative to those bills. With the Uniden UIP1869V Whole House VoIP Phone System for Vonage, you can take advantage of the huge costs savings and the increased functionality that VoIP offers, without losing any of the functionality or convenience of your current home or business phone system.

Unlike most VoIP phone sets that keep you tied to your modem as you make phone calls, the Uniden UIP1869V supports up to 10 wireless handsets, which means you can move throughout your house or office while you're on the phone. With Vonage's service, you will have the advantage of realizing huge cost savings on long distance and international calls.

VoIP: How It Works
VoIP is an acronym for Voice over Internet Protocol, or, in more common terms, phone service over the Internet. If you have a broadband connection, you can get your phone service delivered to you through your Internet connection instead of from your local phone company.

With your broadband connection, VoIP converts your voice into data and sends it through the Internet like an e-mail. View larger.

Choose any area code worldwide with Vonage.

Calls to Canada and Puerto Rico are local.
Unlike most other services that require that you install an extra, bulky analog adapter to your existing analog phone, the base set on the Uniden UIP1869V has a built-in adapter. Just plug the phone into your modem, and when you make a call, your voice will automatically converted into data and sent across the Internet lines just like e-mail. And when the person you're calling picks up, it sounds just the same as any other call. Likewise, when someone calls you, you answer it like you would any phone call. It's that simple. Like traditional land lines, Vonage gives you all the options that you've grown to expect from any phone company, including Caller ID, Call Waiting, Three-Way Calling, Call Return, and much more.

So if VoIP gives you everything a traditional phone service offers, why would you want to switch? For starters, your monthly costs will be dramatically lower. In addition to unlimited calling in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, Vonage offers significant savings on international rates, and you are not required to commit to an annual contract. Depending on where you live in the U.S., you can save 90% and more on many of your calls to Europe, for instance. But lower costs are only the beginning. With Vonage VoIP service, you can also choose the area code you want to use. So if you live in San Francisco, but most of your family, friends, or business clients are in New York, you can choose a New York area code. Better yet, if you are living abroad temporarily, you can take your number with you, or choose a U.S. area code to keep the costs of your U.S. calls low. Vonage VoIP service also gives you the option of checking your voice mail by phone or e-mail or via the Internet, and you have several calling plans to choose from.

And did we mention that you can use your Vonage account anywhere in the world that has an Internet connection? You can either take the Uniden UIP1869V with you and simply plug it into an Internet connection, or take a Vonage adapter (a free adapter is provided with every account) and plug any regular analog phone into it. Whether you're in Atlanta or Zimbabwe, as long as you have an Internet connection, you can make or receive calls using your own telephone number.

The Base and Handset Details
In addition to all the outstanding calling features that Vonage VoIP offers, the Uniden UIP1869V is packed with advanced features that you'd expect from a high-quality phone.

Uniden's UIP1869V is packed with great phone features and compatible with Vonage VoIP Phone Service. View larger.
Included with the package is base keypad with a corded handset and a digital 5.8 GHz handset and charger. The units let you store up to 400 numbers (100 names with four numbers per name) and they feature a 100-Caller ID and phone book memory. In addition to letting you transfer calls between headsets, you can also use your phones for two-way radio calling between the base and a handset, or even between handsets. Other features include a built-in pager so you can always locate your handsets, illuminated keypads, 20 ring tones to choose from, hold/mute/redial functions, a "do not disturb" message, adjustable ringer and volume control, anonymous call rejection, and a message waiting indicator with alert. In short, the Uniden UIP1869V gives you everything you'll need to keep your communications flowing. And if you have multiple lines and a FAX, don't fret. The Uniden UIP1869V can be configured for up to two VoIP voice lines and a separate dedicated VoIP FAX line.

Note: This phone is only compatible with Vonage VoIP services. A service plan (sold separately) with Vonage is required. See www.vonage.com for more information on plans and pricing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good phone, October 2, 2006
This review is from: Uniden UIP1869V Expandable Vonage Internet Phone System (Personal Computers)
The fact that this phone handles only one line is somewhat hidden, I will agree. However, with some quick research, you will find that there are few SIP phones that will handle two lines without getting into the Cisco series phones, by which time you're already into the $300-$400 range. And thats still corded! Granted, there are options like the Sipura SIP841 (which I own), which will do 2 lines, and 4 with a license, for only $99 or so. But that's neither here nor there.

The Uniden UIP1869V is a solid phone. Simple to set up. Easy to use. My only real gripe is the inability to sync the addressbook of the cordless handset(s) automagically with the base station. But I can live with it, I'll just make sure I enter new entries on the base station, and push them from there. Otherwise, setup was simple. Enter the MAC address on the Vonage activate page, and you're done. I added QOS rules into my Netscreen to guarantee bandwidth, and I have crystal clear calls.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far....So good. Very satisfied., March 9, 2010

This review is from: Uniden UIP1869V Expandable Vonage Internet Phone System (Personal Computers)
I've been using the Uniden UIP1869V Vonage Internet phone system for about a month and have been very satisfied with it. It seems to be a quality desktop phone with good voice quality. The features are easily accessible for the most part. I would prefer a headset jack on the desktop set. I have to use the remote "cordless" set in order to use a headset. Although, I found it very easy to transfer calls between the two.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good product, but short battery life, January 10, 2007

This review is from: Uniden UIP1869V Expandable Vonage Internet Phone System (Personal Computers)
The phone system is a good one, overall. It incorporates seamlessly with the Vonage service, and has some neat features such as being able to set up a background image on the handsets. However, the battery life on the cordless phones is abysmal, and it takes a very long time for them to charge back up on the cradle. We have resorted to leaving the phones on the cradle whenever we're not using them. Another issue is the very short range that they have. Our 2.4GHz cordless phones extend much further than these 5.8Ghz phones do.
