All USA, International, and Canada Channels

The MHS75 covers all USA, International, and Canadian marine channels, keeping you up-to-date with all the latest marine activity.

All NOAA Weather Channels with Weather Alert

This radio comes preprogrammed with NOAA weather channels. The Emergency/Weather Alert allows it to function as a severe weather warning radio and will also alert you to any local or national emergencies. If the NOAA issues warning while this feature is turned On, the radio sounds an alert tone. You will then hear the emergency/weather broadcast.

Instant Channel 16/9/Triple Watch

Triple Watch mode monitors channels 16 and 9 for a signal while you listen to the currently selected channel. The marine radio checks channel 16 and 9 for activity every 2 seconds.

Dual, Triple, Quad Watch Operation

These different watch modes let you monitor up to two Coast Guard Distress/Hailing channels and one weather channel along with one regular marine channel.

Memory Channel Scan

Automatically scan your programmed channels with Memory Channel Scan. Scanning starts from the lowest to highest channel and stops when it finds an active channel. It remains on that channel until the transmission ends, then resumes scanning after a two-second delay period.

Clip-On DC Charger

The MHS75 ships with a rapid clip-on DC charger. Charge in any standard 12 volt DC "cigarette lighter" style outlet.

JIS8 Waterproof Level

Uniden MHS75 VHF Hand Held Radio won't give up no matter how wet it gets. Whitecap splash, gusty spray, tidal wave, whatever, this radio can take it. The Uniden MHS75 2-way Marine Radio is built rugged to take the rigors of being out on the water, day in and day out with a full JIS8 waterproof rating. It also features a floating design, and is submersible for up to 30 minutes at five feet.

1 /2.5/5 Watt Switchable

Select between 1, 2.5, and 5 Watts for short- and long-range communication--this is also a convenient way to save a little battery life. In most situations, the 1 Watt transmission power is all you need. If you find yourself far away from other stations and have trouble getting a response, you may need to boost the transmission power from 1 Watt to 2.5 Watts or 5 Watts

Easy Viewing

The MHS75's large, easy-to-read backlit LCD display and backlit keypad make it easy to use, day or night.

Three-Year Warranty

The MHS75 is backed by a three-year warranty.

The Weather Radio is excellent!

I think I may have just gotten a dud, as it seems well made on first impression, but we'll see when the replacement comes.

The rechargeable battery also holds its charge with the radio turned off for a very long time.

This radio was bought on Amazon in July 2011. Excellent power over 15 miles of Lake Superior. (to boat with high antenna). This is outstanding for a hand held set! First problem was a month after receiving the set. The 12 V charger attachment broke off one side where it clips on the radio. In Jan 2012 the battery clip that holds the battery in place fell off and could not be re clipped (broke). The plastic attachments are very stiff and broke off without undue pressure. Shame, as other wise good UNIDEN radio.

I've owned several Uniden radios over the years. They are always well built, reliable and work. This radio is no exception. It is clear on broadcast and receive at all 3 wattage settings. Even in congested radio traffic areas, the battery will 8 hours daily over 2-3 days on a charge (mostly receive). In noisy, windy, etc environments you want to keep it around your chest. My minor nitpicks is that when the radio is turned of it doesn't retain the last settings for scan mode, etc, but it just takes a few seconds to set it up. Get an AC - 12v adapter ($5-$10) so that you can charge it off a wall.

This radio works very well. I was able to transmit over a good distance, is clear and understandable. The weather radio section has a weather alarm which is quite loud and worked well during the last tornado watch. The speaker is usually fine but not loud enough to be heard well when there s a lot of engine noise. It only has a 12 v DC charger, but I purchased an AC adapter. I now prefer charging the unit in the car while driving to the boat.

The Uniden MHS75 is waterproof and submersible to 5 ft. as advertised. However they also advertise a floatable design which might lead you to believe the radio floats. It does not! Be sure to attach a short 2 inch section of pool noodle or similar float to the included wrist strap before clipping it to you belt. If it does fall into the water you will be able to retrieve it without diving to the bottom. The radio has great transmitting power, 5 watts or 1 watt switchable, and crystal clear reception. If you are a boater you should not leave the dock without one. The Quad watch feature makes the radio especially useful as you can monitor 4 frequencies at once. The VHF channel you are using, Ch.16 which is mandatory for boats underway, Ch. 9 another frequently used non commercial calling channel, and a weather alert channel so you won't miss a hazardous weather advisory. This leaves you free to pilot your boat safely without having to constantly fool with the radio. I purchased a 110v ac/12v dc adapter from amazon for a little over $2.00 w/500ma output and it fully charges the battery which is shipped uncharged in a little less than 4 hrs. Recharging after each use should be less than 2 hrs. This inexpensive accessory will allow you to charge the radio when you are not aboard your boat, or keep you radio charged if you don't have a 12v outlet on your boat. Fully charged the radio will transmit over 3 hrs. and monitor traffic for a week. The rechargeable battery also holds its charge with the radio turned off for a very long time. I have left this radio sitting unused on my bureau for months during the summer when it is just too hot to take the boat out and the battery indicator has never dropped below full.
All of my other rechargeable batteries need an occasional charge to keep them full. Not this one. I am really impressed. This little waterproof handheld VHF marine radio is everything a recreational boater should need to boat safely. Happy Boating.

I surf kayak. sometimes when I am a mile or more from where I put in, and also several hundred feet offshore, I like to know that I can reach someone if necessary. That's why I bought this. I wore it out the other day and I ended up in the water a few times with this clipped to my vest and it came out fine. I can hear all the local traffic. I can get weather updates (I may want to start home before I can see the storm coming). Great little radio.

I'm a profession mariner that uses a handheld for backup on the boat, deck to bridge calls, use on small boats without a VHF and shore to boat calls. I need a small light radio since I like to just keep it in the backpack. I was leery about buying another cheap Uniden since I was never completely happy with my last radio a Uniden MHS350. I was considering paying over $200 for an Icom since I am a professional after all. Well in the end I cheaped out again and tried another Uniden, the MHS75, for only 80 dollars.

Well so far a great decision. This $80 radio has better range, battery life (lithium ion rather than NiMh) and controls than my last $125 radio. No problem reaching the beach on inland waters, the battery lasts all day even with numerous transmissions at 5 watts, and the controls work better and are more intuitive than my last radio. It's very light and and seems well built.

The only negative I was worried about from the reviews was the 12 volt only charger. Well it charges up well enough in my truck which does continue charging even when the ignition is off so I can just leave it overnight for a full charge. I do work on larger boats with only 120v AC and no convenient 12 volt so I bought a cheap 120 volt to 12v cigarette plug adapter here on Amazon for $3.

So all in all this is an excellent radio for the price. If I get a couple of years out of it It will have been a worthwhile purchase.
