5.0 out of 5 stars Best album since the early days, February 14, 2009

This review is from: Unification (Audio CD)
Since Michael Rose-Puma Jones- Duckie Simpson line-up, this is the best album by Black Uhuru (no disrespect to Junior Reid or Don Carlos). Even though there were some solid albums in between such as Brutal and Now, since the Michael Rose days, Black Uhuru's sound was on the average "above the average"..

As the previous reviewer said, you don't have to skip tracks here (first time since Anthem for me).

With Unification (followed by Dynasty later), Black Uhuru's original roots sound with haunting lyrics is back. Unfortunately, it's so many years later, and following a decade (1995-2005) of sub-par production in the roots reggae world which has led to its decline of listeners. Unification would have been right up there with the best in roots reggae's magic days.

System, Wicked Haffe Feel It, Proselyte are master pieces..

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Consistent Roots Feel With Deep Bass Grooves, October 12, 2008

This review is from: Unification (Audio CD)
Although this is not Black Uhuru's most famous album, it is among the best-sounding works of the group's enitre discography. This is the same Black Uhuru line-up from the "Dynasty" album (Duckie Simpson, Jennifer Connally and O'Neill Beckford), only "Unification" was released on a lesser known record label, which may account for the lack of attention given to the greatness of this album. I like this Black Uhuru line-up because of the way the bass sounds -- very forward, deep and grooving, and with well-heard basslines that evoke the spirit of roots reggae's most definitive albums. When I put this album on, I can play it continuously without skipping any tracks, and it has been in my CD changer quite often. If you're into lava lamps and incense, this album will be the perfect complement to set a relaxed, herbal and spiritual reggae mood. Get this one while you still can.
