5.0 out of 5 stars Solid book, 4.5 Stars, February 26, 2011

This review is from: Union Pacific Railroad (Railroad Color History) (Paperback)
Union Pacific Railroad by Brian Solomon is a good detailed look at the operations, history and locomotives of the Union Pacific Railroad. If you're interested in the UP or are a fan of the railroad, then you really have no reason not to buy this book. It has some stunning color and black & white photographs of all different types of UP locomotives from American type 4-4-0 steam engines all the way up to the newest diesels from General Electric and General Motors' Electo Motive Division. Railroads bought out by the UP also make appearances in this book, including the Chicago & Northwestern, Southern Pacific, Missouri Pacific, Western Pacific, the Missouri, Kansas and Texas railroad (lovingly known as the Katy line) and even one of UP's old subsidiary railroads, Spokane International.

This book is definitely worth checking out or adding to your railroad book collection if you're in need of vintage Union Pacific photos from the 19th to the closing of the 20th century as well as some interesting information about the railroad in general. A must have for UP enthusiasts.

Yet again, Brian Solomon delivers a fantastic railroad book, this time about Union Pacific. Solomon goes into great detail covering the history of the railroad and modern day operations. The photos are top notch as usual. Solomon never disappoints and always delivers books that will please any rail fan.

2.0 out of 5 stars Union Pacific, November 2, 2004

This review is from: Union Pacific Railroad (Railroad Color History) (Paperback)
Overall the book has so and so information about the locomotives of Union Pacific. If you like the Challenger, Big Boys, and the UP Streamliners, don't get this book. It does not show that much information about those trains. The pictures you find in this book, you can find elsewhere and has also been published on other locomotive books.
