I wish I had this hoe years ago, after looking at different ones online I decided on this one and ordered it at a local ace hdwe store. Yesterday I picked it up on the way to work, (2nd shift), and sharpened it at work and tried it out this morning, I love it, makes short work of weeding and your back does not ache when you're done, very simple to use! For reviewers Julie and KK, yes you have to sharpen it and once you do it works great. Now how to sharpen, turn the tool upside down and follow the contours on each side, the outside 1/8 " or so, you will see it after you turn it upside down it's quite obvious. I use a 10" inch bastard mill file, you file following the outside edge on each side, just lay the file down angled the same as the edge that is already there, put a little pressure on your stroke as you push the file forward and left or right, first the coating will come off, then you start removing metal, don't get carried away you don't want it too sharp. If you are not sure how much to sharpen just try a little and see how it works, if it is not sharp enough, take a little more off, believe me after you sharpen it you will love the way it works. Hold the hoe at a slight angle, not much and push it back and forth just a little under the soil, it only takes a little pressure in good soil, in heavy clay soil a little more pressure and you want clay soil to be fairly dry before weeding with this..Enjoy

This Hoe is something I remember from being a child. I remember it after being reminded of it in - Four-Season Harvest: Organic Vegetables from Your Home Garden All Year Long by Eliot Coleman. He recommends it, as do I. Just scrape the top 1/2" of soil - it cuts the roots from the weeds and in some of the gardens weeds have not returned for 3 weeks. It is an incredable time saver for those places that do not have cover or matting.

Love the Scuffle Hoe! It's a great way to weed and it doesn't destroy the mulch. I don't need to kneel and pull out each weed individually.

This tool is great for weeding in an area covered with stones. Very little effort required; no bending. Husband loves it!

Junk from China,

Not worth the money or the wait (8+days) for delivery. The hoe does not have teeth or a sharp working edge. Rather the edge is polymer coated flimsily and as a result will not cut any unwanted vegetation. Just another piece of junkfrom China.

Ace's scuffle-stirrup hoe is exactly what I needed for work and I am glad I bought it. I am slightly disappointed in the quality of the item. The black coating on the blade chipped off the first week I used it. The hoe still works but I imagine that the coating was for rust protection? I expected better of Ace tools. Perhaps another company has a higher quality product?

I agree with K.K. Am I doing something wrong? It is not sharp at all and I sweated more in less than 5 minutes trying to loosen 'soil' (my flower bed is mulch!) than I do an hour on treadmill. It didn't do anything like it is supposed to. I am not happy at all with this product because I bought it because it was supposed to be sharp, easy to use and a time saver! It's none of those. I am now back on the market to find something to help me loosen and weed the flower bed (in mulch!).

Sharp???,

I don't know if I'm supposed to sharpen it before use, but there is NO edge on it at all - it didn't cut ANYTHING! The description said it was sharp on both sides, but it's a soft edge...? Didn't work at all.
