i had looked eveywhere for a ladder style bookshelf and had no luck at all, i have never ordered furniture offline before which made me a little nervous but it actually came sooner than the date they gave me.... and my boyfriend put it together in less than an hour and said it was very easy. It looks great in my apartment and it isn't flimsy at all (in about the first hour we got it together my cat jumped on it for his one and only time! but it held him fine..... and hes not light on the weight) but i recommend this to everyone looking for a modern style bookcase! I probably would have spent more money at an expensive furniture store than the actual bookshelf and shipping together cost. ITS GREAT!

Great Bookshelf,

This review is from: Unique 72" High LEANING LADDER STYLE MAGAZINE / BOOK SHELF on Black Finish
For the price, these are great bookshelves. The side columns are real wood and I think the shelves are particle board with a wood grain veneer. The instuctions say you need two people to put one together, but I did it by myself with no problem. I bought two and they were together in 3 hours.
The bottom shelf has a support leg for heavy objects which is easily installed or removed. I'm using them more for display purposes so overloading the shelves doesn't wory me. They come with a small bottles of white glue you use to glue wood pegs into holes. I used Gorilla wood glue instead for added strength. Whichever you use it's a good idea to brace each glued subassembly between a wall and a heavy object and check for right angles between the shelves and the columns. Just glueing and installing the fasteners is a sure way to get crooked legs and the shelf won't sit right against a wall. The instuctions should say this, but they don't. My only complaint/concern is that the parts came out of the box (both boxes) uniformly covered in a thin, loose mat of some sort of white, thin, neddle-like fibers 1-2 inches in length. All the parts needed to be wiped down before assembly and the floor vacuumed. The shelves were "Made in China" so it must be from over there. They seem too coarse to be asbestos. Maybe loose fiberglass fibers? Slightly troubling.

These are assembled very easily, all by yourself. They arrived 3 weeks earlier than promised (I bought 2). They look very nice, are very functional, and are easily portable. Mine arrived with no defects, as has been reported by others. I'm very happy with them.
On the downside, the wood is rather soft, and load bearing strength is unknown. I may buy two more, after I live with these for a few months. They are very convenient.
