Functional, good-looking, well-priced jacket, December 21, 2005
This review is from: Unisex Long Trail 3-ply Rain and Wind Jacket (Apparel)
Although the intended recipient of this gift jacket has not yet received it, I was impressed by its quality and appearance. We'll have to wait to see how it performs re rain, but it would seem to be quite waterproof, being "Otterwear" fabric (or maybe that's the manufacturer of the jacket). This is noted on the tag but not in the online item description. The jacket is lightweight and very compressible, what I was looking for because of my son's intended travels. When I ordered, the only colors available in his size were brick (dark red) and orange, not the more conservative navy I otherwise would have ordered. But I took a chance and ordered the brick color, which is not an obnoxious red, in which I thought he might be uncomfortable. In fact, it has sort of criss-cross grey lines in the fabric, which make the jacket even more attractive in my opinion and sort of mute the red a bit too. The inside of the jacket (where the waterproofing layer is) fortunately is done so the fabric is not likely to stick to the skin and feel clammy, as is the case with some jackets of this type.
If there are any downsides, they might be that it would be nice to have outside hand-warmer type pockets, and some might consider the fabric a bit "noisy," though this may lessen with use--I don't know. But in any case, these are not significant negatives as far as I am concerned.
This jacket is certainly a good value. It's hardly Gore-Tex, but it's definitely not Gore-Tex-priced either. In fact, if I'd found this jacket and seller earlier, I'd have bought three of these jackets from him instead of just one. But shortly before finding this jacket, I'd already bought two others on eBay for gifts.
This seller was very responsive to my questions during a phone call, telling me what I wanted and needed to know. Shipping was very prompt, and I received the jacket well before Christmas, though I certainly didn't order very early.

Unisex Long Trail 3-Ply Jacket Large Brick, April 25, 2010
The zipper is a bit tricky. The Jacket breathes as described and so you don't get too hot inside it. It does the trick keeping the rain off. The hood offers maximum coverage of the head and face.

Great value and as good as Goretex!, August 15, 2007
This review is from: Unisex Long Trail 3-ply Rain and Wind Jacket (Apparel)
I've found Goretex to be overrated. This jacket and rainpants combo works as good and is costing much less..I'd give it 5 stars except the pants are a bit confining even in size large even though I am a average sized guy. The fabric is a bit 'noisy' but works fine and is light..although not as light as my GoLite combination jacket and pants (meant for backpacking..but not as water proof) . These were especially good for construction work in driving rain. I did a metal roof partly in the rain with this outfit and it still looks like new!
Goretex again doesn't work any better than the newer Chinese made breathables like this one. Get over it! They are all made in either China or some other lowwage country and this one works as well as the $200 plus models out there.
