Amazon.com Product Description

If you lie awake late at night, you have plenty of company. According to a recent survey by the National Sleep Foundation, more than half of the survey respondents had trouble falling asleep a few times a week in the last year. And without sleep, your health and productivity can suffer. That’s where Unisom sleep-aid comes in.

Unisom SleepGels contain diphenhydramine HCl; an effective sleep aid approved by the FDA

Unisom should be taken 30 minutes before going to bed. The manufacturer does not recommend taking the product too late in the night because it may cause you to be drowsy the next day. Unisom can be used for up to 2 weeks. Stop use and ask a doctor if sleeplessness persists continuously for more than 2 weeks. Insomnia may be a symptom of serious underlying medical illness.

Do not take Unisom without consulting your physician or pharmacist.

Product Description

Helps to reduce difficulty falling asleep.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works pretty well, but the Unisom SleepTabs work better., September 19, 2004
By ..R.. "..R.." (Nashville, Tennessee) - See all my reviews
The Unisom SleepGels are different from the Unisom SleepTabs. The SleepGels are made from Diphenhydramine, which is often used to prevent motion sickness. But it happens to make people sleepy. The SleepTabs are made from Doxylamine Succinate, which is an antihistamine. Doxy is also found in NyQuil. I just thought I would clear that up, because I purchased both types thinking they were the same thing, just different doses. I have found that the SleepTabs work better though. Sam's Club carries a generic brand called "Berkley & Jensen Nighttime Sleep Aid" that works just as well. Plus you get 96 tablets oppose to the 48 from Unisom.

Good thing to help you sleep. Most of the over the counter sleep aids contain one of these two ingredients, but under different names. Just like Aleve and Motrin both contain ibuprofen, but Aleve calls it's ibuprofen, Naproxen sodium. Don't ask me why.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not cost effective, August 5, 2007
Just going to point out that many of the over the counter sleeping aids are just based on Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride...or basically Benadryl. And that it is MUCH cheaper just to buy generic Diphenhydramine HCl instead of paying ridiculous prices for the same thing branded as a sleeping aid.

I remember it was about four bucks at Costco for like 400 pills, and a little cheaper at Sam's...and when I checked again just now Sam's was down to almost three dollars for 400 pills.

Also, many places now have cheap generics available, so even if you don't want to join a wholesale club you should be able to get the same thing for much cheaper.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sorry RS2ndFlood's information is really off. , April 12, 2005
Just to clear up some info, diphenhydramine is benadryl which is what's in these sleepgels. You can get a 400ct. from Sams for about $5. Doxylamine is another otc sleep aid that is found in Nyquil that I prefer because of better sleep and a little less hangover effect. They are both just antihistamine's that have drowsiness as a side effect. You can look for these in the antihistamine section of your pharmacy or in the sleep aid. They are under multiple names because people think there is a difference but there really isn't. Just like Advil and Motrin, they both contain ibuprofen. Aleve contains naproxen, which isn't the same as Advil, Motrin, or ibuprofen. Read the active ingredient's on the drugs that you buy and not the front of the box.
