Highly recommended for a good night's sleep.

Unisom also makes gel tabs which contain the active ingredient in Tylenol PM which makes one drowsy, Diphenhydramine.

The product itself is great, it really helps me drift off to sleep and leaves no groggy feeling the next morning.

First night I used this I took 1 pill (25mg). Took the pill at 10pm and I fell asleep within 15min. Slept like a rock, so well that I slept through my alarm clock (which was set for 8am). After about 15min of my alarm clock going off (set pretty loud to a classical radio station) my girl friend had to wake me up... needless to say I was almost late for work and a little drowsy till about lunch time. Now here is the kick with this stuff... there is no standard recommended dose by body weight. I am 5' 8" and weigh about 140lbs with muscle comprising most of my body weight and little fat. That dose was too much for someone of my BMI and weight. Next night I tried it again and only took half (12.5mg). Again, out like a light within 15min but woke up feeling fine the next morning to my alarm clock. No drowsiness at all.
So the point is this: You have to figure out what is appropriate for your body type. A skinny person with a lower BMI; be it lack of body fat or muscle weight (100-175lbs) probably only needs a half dose at most. A heavier person that has a higher BMI; be it excess fat or muscle mass (175-250lbs) may need a full dose.

Unisom worked. This particular Unisom (the tablet form) has doxylamine succinate which is an antihistamine. The Unisom Maximum Strength (in gel form) contains Diphenhydramine HCl,which I read somewhere is stronger than doxylamin succinate.

PRO: It really works! Within 30 minutes, I felt drowsy.
CON: I still felt drowsy the next morning. I remember the drowsiness went away around noon.

To compare, Nyquil has 6.25 mg of doxylamine succinate per 15 ml. Unisom has 25 mg.

As with all drugs, I only use this for occasional sleeplessness.

I purchased this product for the obvious reason...a good nights sleep. I have found these tablets very effective, inexpensive, and non-habit forming. Perfect.

Whenever I've been sick and taken Nyquil, it has always made me drowsy and easily fall asleep. Sometimes, I have an extremely difficult time falling asleep, mainly during the work week. This contains the active ingredient in Nyquil that makes one drowsy, Doxylamine succinate.

Unisom also makes gel tabs which contain the active ingredient in Tylenol PM which makes one drowsy, Diphenhydramine.

I would recommend this Sleeptab over the gel tab, based on slightly less toxicity to oneself.

This pill works excellently to induce drowsiness and help one go to sleep. I took a full pill the first night, and I woke up extremely drowsy. I drove into work in this state, which was not smart. I felt like a zombie all morning. I was extremely drowsy until lunch time.

I would recommend what others have said, which is to take half a pill for starting out. Half a pill is all I need to get decent sleep for those nights where it's difficult to fall asleep and wake up functioning. Starting out with a full pill if you've never taken these before and have to be somewhere early in the morning is asking for trouble.

These tabs even have a line down the middle as though they are meant to be halved. $10 for 96 days of help getting to sleep if needbe, is not a bad deal.

If Nyquil makes you sleepy and you need help getting to sleep sometimes, order yourself a box of these.

If Tylenol PM makes you sleepy, try the gel pills that Unisom offers.

I would recommend taking half a pill approximately an hour before you wish to fall asleep. If you feel that half a pill isn't working, try a full pill, but beware of feeling extremely drowsy in the morning. These pills contain more Doxylamine succinate than your typical dose of Nyquil.

It does not make me sleepy. I fell asleep 5 hours after I took the pill. I might as well just not take any.

It does the job of putting you to sleep, but I feel very drugged up about an hour while it's kicking in. I switched back to melatonin. It's natural and doesn't give me that "drugged up" feeling.

If you've had bad experiences with other sleep aids, consider giving this a try. It's actually different.

Almost all over-the-counter sleep aids contain the exact same thing. Diphenhyrdamine - an "antihistamine" that was developed to combat allergies. Even most versions of Unisom (the liquid gel capsules, etc) contain diphenhydramine.

For some strange reason, Diphenhydramine and I do NOT get along. I can take any other medicine, and have no allergies to anything else at all. But diphenhydramine gives me heart palpitations like you wouldn't believe, as well as anxiety and sometimes bad dreams - all uncommon but established side effects. It just wasn't worth it for me.

Then I discovered these Unisom sleep tabs, which actually contain a different ingredient! They use doxylamine, which is another kind of antihistamine. For whatever reason, it doesn't cause the same side effects for me. I just get sleepy.

Two downsides:
1) A tolerance builds up very quickly. I take an embarrassing 6 pills at the moment. Probably not safe. At all. But my insomnia comes in bursts and lasts a while, so I take it every night for a couple of weeks at a time. (I need to get back on the Ambien...)
2) Slight drowsiness in the morning. But compared to not sleeping well, it's a win.

Overall, these are great for anyone who doesn't get along well with diphenhydramine-based sleeping pills.
