Diane Simmons grew up on a farm in Eastern Oregon and was a newspaper reporter in Idaho, Alaska and Washington before moving to New York City where she earned an MA in Creative Writing and a Ph.D in English literature. Her novel, Dreams Like Thunder, won the Oregon Book Award. She teaches English at City University of New York, Borough of Manhattan campus, and lives with her husband, Burt Kimmelman, in Maplewood, New Jersey
