5.0 out of 5 stars Wings of Gold - A fantastic book for collectors
In all fairness I haven't read my copy of United States Navy Wings of Gold from 1917 to the Present for over 2 years. I probably haven't read it for more like 3 or 4 years but I still use it on a fairly regular basis for a reference source on all U.S. Naval Services wings. It is a fantastic book that covers the history of naval wings from its very beginning in U.S...

2.0 out of 5 stars An example of why buying a camera does not make one a photographer
What a disappointment! This book is a classic example of a Shiffer product: Great information and lousy photographs. What a disappointment! This book is a classic example of a Shiffer product: Great information and lousy photographs. Unfortunately, either through bad photos or bad printing, the images are virtually worthless to collectors who need to be able to see details and discern minute differences. The redeeming characteristic of this book is the printed list of Naval aviators at the back of the book.

It is too bad...all it would have taken is an editor with the nads to say, "Hey...these photos are sub-quality. Reshoot and resubmit."

5.0 out of 5 stars Wings of Gold - A fantastic book for collectors, January 22, 2012
This review is from: United States Navy Wings of Gold from 1917 to the Present: (Schiffer Military/Aviation History) (Hardcover)
In all fairness I haven't read my copy of United States Navy Wings of Gold from 1917 to the Present for over 2 years. I probably haven't read it for more like 3 or 4 years but I still use it on a fairly regular basis for a reference source on all U.S. Naval Services wings. It is a fantastic book that covers the history of naval wings from its very beginning in U.S. military service. It has great photo references showing most wings front and back so you can see the all important hallmarks and construction of the wings and it also has a section in the back on makers and their hallmarks. If you collect uniforms or wings this is a must have for your library.
