About the Artist

With elements reminiscent of the dark beauty of Black Sabbath, the epic complexity of Rush, the artistic muscle of early Soundgarden and the flamboyant-yet-aggressive experimentation of Led Zeppelin, The Accident Experiment combines heavy progressive mystique with classic rock attitude and melody.

Hailing from San Diego, AeX is comprised of former P.O.D. guitarist/songwriter Marcos Curiel, ex-Sprung Monkey rhythm section veterans Ernie Longoria and Tony DeLocht and Seattle-native/former Grammatrain vocalist Pete Stewart.

Since its inception in late 2002, The Accident Experiment has received praise from MTV, Metal Edge, and Guitar World, as well as being indieTunes' top selling artist of all time. The substantial pedigree brought to AeX by its members’ past projects is evident in the quality and seasoned skills heard in the band’s music. But, the members’ history is more of a launchpad than a crutch.

“We’re all proud of what we’ve done in the past,” states Curiel, who also serves as producer on the band’s two albums. “I had some great times in P.O.D., and we put out some solid music that alot of people dug. But in this band, everyone decided we wanted to throw out most of the rules that we had in our old bands and play how we’ve always wanted to play. I think you can hear the feeling of freedom in what we do, at our shows and on our recordings.”

Disillusioned pastor’s kids have been an ingredient in more than one hard rock band’s recipe for creation. Not surprisingly, Stewart’s poetic, poignant lyrics set to both emotive and hooky melodies touch on such issues as non-conformity, shattered illusions, and elements of control and abuse in religion and in relationships. Songs like “Mind Death Machine” and “Holy Magic Man” speak of breaking through the confines of sociological cells while “Lost Kisses” and “Sick Love Letter” evokes the tension and release of love. The combination of Stewart’s dark and piercing vocals and Curiel’s monster guitar riffs and Edge-meets-Page solos come to life perfectly atop DeLocht’s larger-than-life bass work and the flash and finesse of Longoria’s often complicated, always solid drum skills.

Extensive musical interludes, hypnotic grooves and captivating hooks make AeX a diverse band with both accessibility and depth. With a significant amount of touring, recording and preliminary press, The Accident Experiment is gaining momentum and devoted fans both in their Southern California home base and around the country.

“This is no fly-by-night project,” says Stewart. “We’re a band that’s here to stay.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have hard rock album, May 10, 2006

This is an amazing band. Pete Stewart is a truly gifted singer, and Marcus on guitar is awesome. I have loved Pete Stewart ever since his days with Grammatrain, and now that he has gone another direction his music has gotten even better. It's by no means what today's "traditional" hard rock is, and that is what makes them so good. Sick Love Letter is probably my favorite song right now, and this band is not going to go away. In years to come you will be hearing a lot about The Accident Experiment, so go check them out, you won't be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read me: In the near future - big things..., July 3, 2006

You heard it from a Dick first: The Accident Experiment will be the Metallica of the 21st Century. By the time 2008 runs to a close, these guys will be HUGE in the genre of heavy music.

I'd say believe me or not, and rate this review if it was helpful, but the truth is, no one will read this for at least a year, or until these guys gain some momentum and all the kiddies look back at their back catolog.

Even if my prediction doesn't hold true, you know these guys will become as big as POD did. It'll start as underground, great music with stellar guitar creativity, like POD did with Brown, and POD LIVE, etc. and build from there. Face it. Mr. Curiel's playing is just TOO GOOD to ignore (even if it is a dissapointment that his new band doesn't have as positive and spiritual of a messsage).

Peace out, viewers of the future!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very, very good!, April 7, 2011

Being a fan of POD and Marcus, I was intrigued to say the least. I picked up Arena first and now United we Fear. I'm not disappointed, this disc is flat out great. The band seems to have a very mature and focused sound. The drummer is a freakin' animal. Singer's voice is great and I just love Marcus' playing. "Sick Love Letter" and "Mind Death Machine" are stellar!
