Spiritual Blues & Soul!,
By Aidea (Tucson, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unity (Audio CD)
All I can say is this guy has an incredible amount of musical talent! Unity is one of the best new CD's I've heard in a while. With a 10 piece band including horns, the sound leaves nothing to be desired! Get up and get ready for some foot stompin' and clappin'.... reachin' down to your very bones! This guy is great and I can't wait to see him on the Feb.'04 "Blues Cruise" with 4 live performances! Whew... it is just mind blowin' what that experience will be like! "If You Could Rule the World" leaves plenty to ponder, every song on this CD (12 in total) is fabulous, nothing is lacking, in my judgement! Hallelujah Brother Anthony!

Outstanding rock your soul - satisfyin' cd,

Anthony Gomes sings and plays with a ton of soul. This is a well produced and played by all in the band effort. If you aren't signing and dancing along with this after 3 plays there is something wrong. From the opening notes of "When The Walls Come Down" through the the bluesy "Darkness Before The Dawn" to the funk laden "Do Watcha Do" and on to the final notes of the Acoustic blue "Bad for You". Anthony's latest cd is a work to be reckoned with. If you haven't had enough after listening to this fine effort, go see him live.

Blues Rock CD of 2002,

"Unity" should put Anthony Gomes over the top as a guitar player. Produce by Jim Gaines, this production of Unity is a phenomenal work of art, and should really put Gomes at the top of the blues charts. Fasten your seat belts folks and hold on tight. This is a great ride, Anthony Gomes will take you on an bluesy, jazzed up version of rock & roll that will leave you wishing there was one more track on this disc. His raspy voice combined with his incredible guitar work makes for what I am calling the Blues Rock CD of the Year! I've had the privilege of hearing Anthony live several times at the Congo Square in Nashville, TN. and he really knows how to capture the audience and take them on a musical journey they won't soon forget. By this CD you will love it!Reviewed by The Bandit www.banditbluesradio.com

Anthony Gomes Rocks!!!,
By
This review is from: Unity (Audio CD)
For some reason I thought Anthony Gomes was a new-age guitarist. My husband and I are huge Blues fans and have been for about 15 years, so we've had the opportunity to see many, many great Blues acts. Anthony Gomes was scheduled to play the Legendary Rythym and Blues Cruise this year and I didn't really expect to be impressed but he BLEW MY ASS AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ran right straight down to the "Bluesin' Bazaar" and bought all three of his cd's and I can't get enough of them. He puts on such a great show that we are driving to Philly from WV (170 miles) next week to see him and then immediately driving back to do a double shift the next day, but he is WORTH it. Catch this guy live if you can, I can't really put into words how great (and nice) he is. And just an incredible musician.

An awesome display of soulful blues and powerful guitar. Anthony has developed into a young star with his love for the Blues. From the very first song "When the Walls Come Down" to the funky "Blindog" this CD doesn't miss a beat.A must for any music lover and especially of the Blues!Tony Basile

Gomes' Is Sensational!,

I listen to and review a lot of CDs every month and I can honestly say that this is one artist whose releases I actually look forward to. When last we heard from him, Gomes had released his gospel tinged all acoustic release, "Sweet Stringin' Soul". On his latest outing, Gomes is back with his electric guitar laying down some soulful, funky blues licks that will have your toes tapping from the very first tune. In a world of Stevie Ray Vaughan impersonators, it is always refreshing to hear a young artist with his own style and fresh ideas. Gomes has another winner here and is deserving of some national recognition.

New Link To Old Blues - Ain't No Better Out There Now,
This review is from: Unity (Audio CD)
Anthony can play the guitar beyond the best of them. I saw him a long time ago in a Nashville bar and this drunk guy kept harrassing him to play Stevie Ray, and finally Anthony put his guitar on wireless and ran up to the second balcony, placed his foot up on the drunk guy's table and commenced to play Stevie better than Stevie -- and that is a fact. The whole bar fell all about the place with amazement. I was then a believer. Since then, Anthony keeps hooking up with better and better musicians, and his Unity album has great blues and lyrics -- not everybody can handle his voice, but like the blues, it grows on you and soothes you when you are down. If you think you are so knowledgeable about the blues, Anthony had better be in your new blues collection. But as Anthony would tell you, if life was easy, what would we learn?

TALENTED, BUT A BLUESMAN??,
By
This review is from: Unity (Audio CD)
i actually went to high school with anthony in the Toronto area. He's a super talented musician no doubt. But knowing that as a teen , Anthony was absolutely mad for bands like Iron Maiden and George Lynch of Dokken. Never got the impression he was into blues at all. Not to bust the kid, But i consider him probably just a super talent as opposed to a real bluesman. Rock on Anth

Jaw Dropping - and Yes, he actually can pull off leather pants,
By Triumph Girl "Triumph Girl" (Grand Rapids MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unity (Audio CD)
Had the pleasure of seeing Anthony Gomes and his band live in Grand Rapids, Michigan this past week. His set was jaw-dropping, electrifying. Grand Rapids audiences are known for being very subdued (to the point it's embarrassing at some shows). By the end of the first song through the final encore, everyone was on their feet, young and old, dancing, cheering, and joyfully soaking up the magic that Anthony and his crew were throwing down. As an aside, yes, he can pull off the leather pants - the naysayer critics sneering at them could only look this good in their dreams.
