1.0 out of 5 stars Ok while sitting..., November 29, 2009
This review is from: Universal Belt Clip with Ratcheting Action (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Mine - identical - came with a PDA pouch.

The idea is great in principle, but like every belt clip I've ever come across it springs open at the bottom if the PDA is caught on anything (like a seat belt or steering wheel when getting out of your car) and a several-hundred dollar unit can come crashing onto hard concrete with disastrous results. Worse still, there is no vertical return part to the catch at the base, only a horizontal piece below the belt that interlocks with the main body of the clip so long as the clip remains shut.

Also, unless the device held protrudes a healthy distance above it (which even my large PDA doesn't), the release button on top is too easily activated, by a slight "spare tyre", and/or the arm of a chair or anything else unforeseen that may bear down upon it.

It would be ok for a very careful and delicate lady while she is seated in, say a board meeting as long as she consciously releases it before she stands up. I wouldn't trust myself to remember and I recommend you don't trust your $800 Smartphone to it.

So me? I'm still looking for one that is very robust - preferably steel reinforced - fastens and locks firmly ALL the way around the belt so that cannot come adrift (simple - you thread the belt through it when you put your trousers on) and has a recessed release machanism that can't be accidentally activated.
