Out of this world! Hahahaha,
By Drastic Action "Doug" (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Universal (Audio CD)
This was the second Bim Skala Bim CD I have purchased, and since I was not really all to enamoured with my first purchase (Eyes and Ears), I wasn't too excited, but since I had found it exceptionally cheap, I figured I'd give them a try.
This CD is what pretty much turned around my view of this band. They seemed somewhat predicable and uninteresting on my first few listens to Eyes and Ears, but Universal seems to be anything but predictable. While there are a lot of expected attributes you'd expect from a seasoned ska band, the atmosphere of these songs is remarkable. From the jumpy Pete Needs a Friend, to the almost haunting Same Mistake, to the weirdness of Freeman, this CD not only succeeds in getting my pulse going, but also brings up more emotions than I could've expected. This CD, along with most of their other work (I have since gotten my hands on Bones, Krinkle, How's it Goin'?, and Tuba City), seems to have something for any type of ska fan out there, whether your taste is for boisterous, rambunctious ska, or more laid-back mellow ska, they seem to do it all, and do it remarkably well. |
