I saw them open for Keane in Orlando and they were outstanding.
The sound is familiar and fresh - like hearing an old track rerecorded then realizing you don't know it after all. They don't sound anything like Jet, but it's the same feeling I had hearing them. You can give this album to your kids or keep it for yourself, but it needs to be in your music collection. I hear they've been added to Lollapalooza. If you're going, don't miss the set!

Eight Track Heaven,

When I first heard this on Jonesys Jukebox, I thought I was listening to a long lost track from some obscure nuggets band. Instead, I find it's a retro-band with heaps of soul. Bowie and Mott meet Peter Frampton? Oh, what the hell, just pop it in like it's an old 8 track and be transported into a 70s timewarp.

I haved not seen them live, but the lead singer from my band (Quiet Kid shameless plug) has and says they have phenomenal energy. Their album is quite good and has a great sound to it, so I imagine them live would be awesome. Very consistant quality, but still varied enough that you dont feel like you're hearing the same song over and over. I'd love to see them live. Pick it up!!

See them live,

I saw these guys live in the Twin Cities last week. They opened for Keane and The Zutons. These guys were definitely the best part of the show. They had great energy and actually looked like they were having fun. To top it off, they sounded great and their songs were well written. Give these guys a shot, unless you hate Rock 'n' Roll!!!

these boys are awesome. Having recorded this album just after high school, their talent is pure and true. Their songs are upbeat, with a rock undertone. trust me, they are good. I saw them open for keane with the zutons, and i highly recommend them live. but the album is great too.

Best in Years,

I have not yet seen these guys live, but purchased the CD on the advice from a friend. It's the best "new" CD I've purchased in years. I'm a little biased because I'm a die-hard Beatles fan. But I'm not much older than these guys, and apparently have many of the same 60's influences. And they manage to echo a well-known style of music without merely copying it. Their songwriting takes this music into a level that good bands like The Strokes wish they could reach. If you own any of the first 4 Beatles CD's, you'll hear the much of the same energy, passion, and creativity on "Universal Blues." Carl Perkins/George Harrison-esque guitar riffs. Lennon/Dylan-esque vocals. McCartney-esque melodies. Could you ask for anything better? I don't think so. Get the CD now so when this band is huge, you'll say "I knew them when..." It's awesome.

These guys were really young when they made this album, and it lacks the polish of their second.
It's still a great album, and shows true genius. Less blues than the title states, It's stacked full of original rock songs, showing influences from The Beatles and Stones, to David Bowie. If you like the rock of Franz Ferdinand or Bloc Party, with a bit of Kings of Leon Americana thrown in, buy this album.

More than Beatlesque...,

I saw The Redwalls open for Keane in Cleveland back in February. They truly sound older than their years. I am a big fan of British-Invasion era music, and from the first struck chord of their set--I was hooked. I turned to my friend and said, "How Beatlesque!" It is unfair to pigeon-hole them into sounding just like the Beatles, however. With time, they have put their own mark on their songs. I can't wait for the new album to come out. I'll be catching their show in Akron this week, and I can't wait! They have fun onstage and send that out to the crowd. They produce some infectious, feel-good music. This is a band to watch.

Wow,

I don't usually listen to this type of music. To tell you the truth, I am more into the industrial scene. However, when I read in our local newspaper that some local kids had made their big break, I was sort of curious to see what made it so. I went to the same school as Andrew Langer and Justin Baren, and I believe I was in AP Studio Art with one of them (I was a junior, they were seniors). I always heard Justin talk to our teacher (who is into music and in a band as well) about some gigs they played and stuff like that, but I haven't heard any of their music until Universal Blues came out. I have to say that I was pretty amazed at first. I had a hard time believing that this was what they were capable of doing. Congratulations. If you are into the Beatles or just want to get back to that 60's-era state of mind, buy this CD.

The Redwalls,
By Yeehaa (UK) - See all my reviews

I saw The Redwalls play at The Garage in London on 2nd January 05, supporting Nine Black Alps and was blown away by the energy and overall talent of all the members! They had charisma and a very original style that is displayed perfectly through this CD so I'd certainly recommend buying it! The four-piece from Chicago are definitely worth a listen, and to hear them live is awesome! I met them after the gig in the bar, and they are such nice, down to earth guys, that so evidently love what they do so give them a chance... they will not disappoint!
