She mixes jazz and classical with breathtaking beauty on Lord of Lords (1973): Excerpts from The Firebird; Going Home ; the title track, and more!

Two very distinct albums on this twofer. The first is very avant garde far more away from the modernity of her husband, John Coltrane. The second album is almost like electronica and the two standouts tracks are renditions of classical masterpieces. They always have the best tunes! The first one is Igor Stravinsky "Firebird Suite" (opening) and the second is the largo from Dvorak's 9th symphony which itself is based on a negro folk song "goin' home". I have two of her other CDs so I am a fan but two more different approaches on one CD you could not find. A more representative CD of her music would be "Impulse Story" for those investigating her music. Unfortunately she died in 2007 of respiratory failure and is buried next to her husband. Two great masters of the idiom.
