I remember years ago they had Demagnitizers with just a metal tip.
In the instructions it said to only bring it close to the head but not to touch it(Go Figure!!!)
This one has a rubber-coated tip which eliminates the concern about scratching the head.the tip has a gradual bend that makes it easier to get into those hard-to-reach spots.

I bought this for an old echoplex ep-3 i had. It's very nice for demagging heads and such. i'm pretty sure it's strong enough for capstan too. If you are restoring and old tape device....i highly recommend.

Pros: This demagnetizer works fine, and the materials are good quality. The sleeve on the head protects against scratches.

Cons: You have to be careful as it doesn't have a on/off button. If you leave it plugged in for too long, it will overheat. Because it doesn't have a power button, you have to be careful where you put it down when it is plugged in as it will demagnetize anything nearby on your work table desk, So don't leave your wallet, media, cards, or anything of importance nearby. Other demagnetizers I have owned in the past have had a power button.

Great product for the price. Easy to use and worked great on my cassette, 8-track and reel to reel. I would recommend this to anyone that's into analog.

Had a couple of old VCRs that would no longer record so I was thinking about tossing them but then saw this demagnetizer. I know, no one uses them any more, but I still have lots of tapes and they are fine for TV shows. I pulled the covers off & passed the tip over the heads & both old VCRs now record like brand new units. Now I can delay moving into the 21st century a while longer.

This is a sleek-looking, comfortable-handling, tool with a tip shield that solves the problem of maintaining the ideal spacing between the tool's active tip and the delicate tape head surface. Its maker warns users to be on guard against overheating and recommends unplugging it after five minutes of use. It actually heats up so slowly, I kept wondering if it was on at first, then found this unit only slightly warm after demagnetizing eight tape heads. I think the maker should at least add an indicator light and possibly a switch as well. Without off-on monitoring, I can only like it but not love it.

It works fine; but I wish it had an on-off switch. It enhanced the play back of my reel to reel.
