Not disappointed,

I just recieved my flip up shield with my 40 series helmet from Jafrum- it took a few minutes to figure out how to fit properly on the helmet, but it feels secure. I bought the shield before reading the bad reviews and was a bit trepidous about how it would fare in windy conditions; so on my test ride today I took my other helmet along just in case. So far the shield works well and I haven't experienced any problems with flipping so far. (You have to make sure the piece at the top fits in the hole). As for wearing the shield at night there's a note on it that warns against night wear. You'd be well advised to get the clear option for that. It gets a little windy on the face at high speeds but that's the nature of the design and it's not intolerable. This is a well priced shield that once properly secured works fine for me. I was also pleased with Jafrum's service-I've ordered from them before and am always pleased with the speedy delivery even with standard shipping

Very Dark If Tinted,

This review is from: Universal Flip-up Face Shield with 3 Adjustable Snaps (Misc.)
I bought the tinted version, and it is so dark that you shouldn't consider using it unless you can GUARANTEE that you won't be out riding at night. Even at dusk or on overcast days, it's a bit dark.
But it's cheap and fit the bill for what I wanted.

Worse than Useless,
By

I wear a half helmet and I thought this shield would help me get through the winter months.
Every time I change lanes (over about 45mph) the thing flips open from the wind when I check my blind spot. Every time. One time it hyperextended when I turned my head back, leaving a gap between the shield and the visor. Also, it doesn't do an adequate job of blocking the wind (again over about 45) to allow me to keep my eyes fully open. Having to wear goggles under it really defeats the purpose. The thing is worse than useless, it is downright dangerous.

inferior product,
This review is from: Universal Flip-up Face Shield with 3 Adjustable Snaps (Misc.)
Consider this a 10 dollars wasted. The material is flimsy cheap plastic; it doesn't hold shape, scratches easily and broke as soon as I accidentally hit it. Invest a bit more money and get a much better product.

FlipShield for half-helmet,

We just bought some scooters and half helmets but needed a face shield to block the wind. We don't ride a lot but these shields were exactly what we needed. They work perfectly!

The face shield fits the helmet well, and it is of good quality. But the sliding buckles on the shield allow it to flop around in the wind at highway speeds. I wouldn't use this for anything but driving slowly on local roads

I purchased this product with the intention of using it to keep my face from being hit by bugs and gravel while riding, and it has performed this task admirably. I bought this to stick on a helmet I use for riding a 50cc scooter; I probably wouldn't recommend it for anyone who is going to exceed 40mph. It doesn't do much at all to keep wind out of my face, so definitely don't buy this as an alternative to glasses/goggles. I haven't had any problems with the visor "flipping up," as is stated in another person's review. My only complaint is that my half helmet no longer fits in my under-the-seat storage compartment.

I read some reviews that were negative concerning this shield distorting in the wind at higher speeds. I figured that I'm going to be riding a bike that generally only travels 35 mph, so what did I care? I like the shield just fine. It does what it is supposed to do. I do find that when I bring the shield fully down it snaps in place, now this snap isn't too secure, sometimes it comes up when I didn't intend for it to, but it only comes up a little, it is not a problem if one is just aware of it. I would recommend it.
An update after about a year. I'm still happy with my purchase, though I have found that the plastic for the visor is rather brittle. I accidentally allowed my helmet to fall and the plastic (shaded part) visor split. I've tried epoxy and then nylon filament package tape to mend it. None of these are permanent repairs, I'll need to buy another. I have had no other problems with it. I do polish the face shield from time to time. |
