I can't say enough how wonderful these new Universal Monster Retro Series dolls are. The detail and care that went into their creation is magnificent. The Wolfman's body is fully posable - with flexible joints at wrists, elbows, shoulders, ankles, knees, hips. The head turns both directions and and torso swivels as well. The photos really do not do these figures justice as the attention to detail in their creation is amazing. The Wolfman's polyester clothes are just as fun as the figures themselves. He has a drab green shirt that attaches with a small strip of velcro and can be removed to reveal his brown, furry chest! Yes, that's right. The Wolfman has a furry torso and his legs, from the knee down, are also furry. His leg fur is displayed through the tears in his dark green pants and the pants have a small snap on the back of the waist to allow their removal. He even has a delicate black belt with a working buckle. I love this little guy! The exposed plastic parts of the figure (hands, head, and feet) contain lots of nice details without feeling overly articulated. I know other fans may disagree, but I prefer these "Retro" dolls over the highly articulated "Select" series of Universal Monsters that Diamond Select is also releasing. The Select figures are too "wrinkly" looking for me and they are intended for display only since they are not posable (which makes them a little less fun, I think). I feel like these Retro dolls are a great balance between cute and creepy. As a child of the 70s, they harken back to the old Mego superhero dolls I had and the Remco glow-in-the-dark series of classic monsters I got for Christmas around 1980. I still wish I held on to my old Remco monsters, but these new Retro Universal Monsters are actually even better than the Remcos.Read more ›

Yes, the retro-clothing-vibe is cool-- and the clothes themselves are actually really well-made. Yes, the fact that he's got "fur" over his arms, legs, and torso is pretty slick-- and I dig the fact that his hands and feet are wolf-like and sculpted well. In fact, the only part of this figure that bummed me out was the face-- not that it's a poor likeness exactly (he looks fine), but the paint job over the face kinda sucks-- it's simply too light of a color. That said, after touching it up myself (using markers and a soft cloth no less), I think it looks pretty good, and would have to recommend the figure to anyone looking for werewolf toys (which, it seems, are pretty hard to come by these days). Oh, last word: a couple of the other reviews mentioned that the figure itself looks much better than the photographs-- I took their word for it, and discovered THEY WERE RIGHT, so I'm echoing their sentiment-- the doll itself is infinitely cooler than the pics would have you believe.

I absolutely LOVE this little guy, standing 8 inch tall, free standing I can put him anywhere I truly think Lon Chaney JR. would be happy to know such a great toy was created for his wonderful role as the wolfman! everytime I see it it brings a smile to my face I suggest anyone thinking about obtaining one of these amazing "retro" figures, do it. I am going to have to get Boris as Frankenstein now too to match my wolfy! :)
