2.0 out of 5 stars Universal laptop adapter, April 22, 2010

This review is from: Universal Laptop Netbook DC Car Charger Adapter for MSI Wind U100 10" Netbook (Laptop NOT Included) (Electronics)
Unit ran extremely hot - too hot to touch, and probably hot enough to start a fire. I machined out the decorative ventilation grids and that seemed to help. The 12V plug-in adapter was difficult to insert and remove from the cigarette lighter socket. The second time I used the charger, the plug disintegrated inside my cigarette lighter socket. I replcaed the 12V male plug with a new, better quality one. All in all, for $20, a replacement plug, and an hour of labor, I now have a DC laptop charger that seems to work. It still runs a little hotter than I feel comfortable with. There are no UAL or CSA symbols, and I am suspicious of the CE safety symbol. I wonder if the device is actually legal for sale in Canada or the US. If not, it could lead to insurance problems if it causes a fire.
