At first I thought these bars were the best thing since sliced bread.
The tasted great (much better then other bars) and were very convenient, cheap, had great nutritional value, etc...

Then after a few weeks of eating them rather regularly I started to notice the gastric distress which quickly became rather annoying, not debilitating, just really annoying (constant loud gas, bloated feeling). Yes, sure the gas smells a little like candy (I'm serious) but there are other side effect to that as well. The other thing was the taste, eventually all I could taste was the Moltitol... it was overwhelming, what ever taste I enjoyed from this bar (and others in the Doctor's CarbRite line) was gone and replaced with this horrific chemically taste of Moltitol which took weeks to erase from my tongue once I stopped consuming the product.

I would say it a personal taste issue.. maybe if you don't overeat these bars, maybe if your body isn't sensitive to the Moltitol like I am you might have greater success with these bars.

I haven't the heart to rate this item low because I actually did enjoy them for the brief period that I could stand them.
Good Luck. Buyer be ware.

It is hard to find the perfect Bar but this will do for now.
The Bar I'd like would have the following characteristics
- high protein
- low Fat
- low sugar or no sugar
- around 200 calories
- good taste
- low price

This Bar has most of these qualities except it does have
a higher sugar alcohol level than I would like.
I have used this product for years and am satisfied, obviously.

I was on the hunt for a protein bar with tons of protein but not too many calories. Most protein bars with this much protein (20g) have 300-400cal. I wanted something with less than 200cal. Most of the protein bars with less than 200 cal have 15g or less of protein. This gives the most protein with the least calories that I could find.
The taste is very good. The Chocolate Brownie flavor kind of tastes like a Little Debbie brownie, only not as sweet. Cookie Dough is my favorite--it really tastes like chocolate chip cookie dough. S'mores is my least favorite--it doesn't really taste like s'mores. They all have a good, chewy texture. I would have preferred them to be a little sweeter, but I tend to like my sweets to be pretty sweet. I enjoyed eating them.
I will definitely buy these again.

The "CarbRite Toasted Coconut Bars" are a good choice for those seeking low carb snacks. I have tried several different types of the CarbRite bars and the Toasted Coconut is my favorite. Being a type 2 diabetic, I am always looking for low carb products that taste good. Here are my observations:

Pros:
+ Good Tasting; these are not candy bars and the coconut flavor is subtle, but they taste much better than most other "low carb" bars I have tried
+ Low Carb; only 2 NET carbs, but a lot of the other carbs come from Maltitol (see "Cons", below)
+ High Protein; 18g per bar
+ Very Filling; unlike a lot of other low carb snacks, these bars are actually fairly filling (likely due to the high protein content)

Cons:
- Contains Maltitol, which can cause "gastric distress" in some people - start of with small amounts if you don't know it will affect your system

Misc:
* 120 Calories per bar, but 60 of those are from fat
* Chewy Consistency

Overall, these bars are a satisfying low carb snack choice that have a good flavor and do not significantly impact my blood sugar levels.

Recommended! As I note above, there are several flavors made by CarbRite and I also like Doctor's CarbRite Diet Sugar Free Bar, Chocolate Brownie, 2-Ounce Bars (Pack of 12)

Buyer Beware Please! This sweetener is not for everybody. Maltitol is an alcohol sugar and can be undigestible in the body. You will know a short time after consuming it if you are one of the unsuspecting many who cannot digest it by the extreme intestinal bloating and cramping and massive amounts of gas a person can experience. Nausea, diarrhea & headaches can also be experienced. I learned my lesson the hard way years ago when I fell in love with the sugar-free chocolates suzanne sommers used to sell. I thought I'd found sugar-free chocolate nirvana at first taste but the bliss was short lived when the terrible side effects of maltitol kicked in. The discomfort was unlike anything I had ever felt before. I blew up like a balloon and had very painful abdominal cramping. As the symptoms passed, this too was very unpleasant. Though hard for me to believe a low calorie sweetener could be the culprit, all symptoms were gone when I stopped eating the chocolate. My hunch it had something to do with the maltitol were unfortunately confirmed for me about a year later when I purchased some delicious sugar-free popcorn at my local market. The taste was amazing and while I was looking at the label wondering what could possibly make this yummy, new sugarfree treat taste so good, my heart sank when I followed the little asterisk next to sugarfree sweetener* down to the very bottom of the label and read "maltitol" in tiny little letters! Thank goodness I'd eaten only a little. I still ended up with all the same side-effects but for a much shorter duration. Some people can use maltitol to their heart's content but others, like me, can have a bad reaction to it. In case you're like me, ... it's not you ...it's the maltitol!
