Fascinating, magical book,

This review is from: Universal Patterns (The Golden Relationship : Art, Math & Nature, Book 1) (Paperback)
All drawings are clear and superbly illustrated. I use this to teach design and the students love it. It is a very stimulating piece of work which is worth every penny.

I used this book throughout my degree which was in art and maths. It was superb and very easy to read or just scan through. I would recommend it to anybody interested in these subjects, especially people who are facinated with the links between maths and art. Well worth getting.

Finally bought my own copy!,
By Artist Minaz Jantz (Nova Scotia Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The golden relationship: Art, math & nature (Universal Patterns) Book 1 revised edition (Paperback)
I have signed out from my public library a few books written by this crew and finally bought the book Universal Patterns. I have spent some pockets of time to dedicate to some of the exercises they put forth to build competency in using the variety of Golden rules. Its much like solving puzzles and eventually I get to create some fun art works. Generally I work in art mediums such as pastel and oil paint but always turn to their books to challenge myself with pencils, drafting tools and their lessons with creative solutions. This is the most excellent book for learning about Golden relationships and 'how to do' but you do need to know how to use drafting tools before hand![...]for some examples under DRAWINGS.

Fabulous,

I was lucky enough to have both Marty Boles and Shelley Newman as professors at Bradford College. I took their class called Math Concepts in Art and Nature and we received this book hot of the press as each chapter was written. For someone who did really poorly in geometry in high school, this book was fabulous for me. It is really a form of geometry disguised as art. The way it is written makes sense to someone with a more artistic slant and as one of those people, I finally felt good about my math abilities. Thanks Marty and Shelley for putting it all in perspective. Michelle Rocheford Johnston

Bridging Geometry, Art, History and Culture...,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The golden relationship: Art, math & nature (Universal Patterns) Book 1 revised edition (Paperback)
This book is a bridge between Art and Geometry, in a very practical form. It tells the history of various elements in architecture, Botany and other aspects of culture and shows their interrelationships. It's a great intro to geometry for beginners, while being informative to experienced followers of various art media, such as quilting. Special ideas like The Golden Mean are explained, history given, and directions for creating structures with these important features provided. A WONDERFUL and unusual combination of Art and Geometry which would be of interest to many, and accessible to all.
