Replace Up to Six Remotes with One URC-A6

Perfect for DIY, the URC-A6 replaces up to six individual remote controls in an affordable, user-friendly design and has a dedicated "Light" control button. URC's A6 remote works with thousands of A/V devices and has multiple set-up options, including the unique "Quick Set-up" that does almost all of the work for you. You can also use device auto-search and a "Learning" feature for flexible setup applications.

Simplify Controlling Your Home Theater with MacroPower and Favorite Channels

In addition to being a great replacement for up to six remote controls, the URC-A6 delivers much more. MacroPower is a very useful way to make a lot of things happen with one button push. For example, in most home theaters, to watch television, the user must turn on the TV, then turn on the Cable Box or the Satellite Receiver, then turn on the Surround Sound system for sound. Instead of pressing all of those buttons one at a time, MacroPower enables you to turn on all of these components, in the sequence you want, with one button push.

Program up to five channels on each of the four "My Favorites" buttons

The A6 uses one-button "Macros" to allow you turn on your TV, cable box, DVD player and surround sound system all at the same time with the press of one button. The URC-A6 has six Macro buttons (POWER, SYSTEM OFF, A, B, C, D) that are designed to store up to 20 commands in each button. Pressing any one of the Macro buttons, or automated activity, will send out the series of commands that are stored in that particular button.

The URC-A6 also comes equipped with four customizable "My Favorites" buttons. You can program up to five favorite channels per button. And with the URC-A6's ability to control most IR (Infrared) operated lights, you'll never have to get off the couch to set the mood for family movie night.

"Couch Mode"

The A6 remote is designed to automatically turn itself off if a button is pressed for more than 30 seconds. This prevents battery power from being depleted should the remote accidentally slip between the couch cushions.

SimpleSound Total System Volume

SimpleSound is one of the most exciting features of the URC-A6. It gives you total volume control over ALL the components in your system, even those that do not have built--in volume control, such as TiVO, DVD player, or VCR. SimpleSound saves you the hassle and inconvenience of constantly switching between component modes just to control volume. You can define which device in your system will be used to deliver sound-- In a basic system, the sound may come from your TV speaker. In a more advanced system, the sound may come from your audio components (such as a Surround Sound Receiver or Home Theatre system).

Channel Control "Punch Through"

This "Punch Through" enables you to program the URC-A6 so that either the Cable or TV Channel Controls (CHANNEL UP, DOWN, LAST, CHANNEL NUMBERS 0-9, +10 and ENTER) will also operate in other component modes on the remote control.

Transport Control "Punch Through"

This "Punch Through" enables you to program the URC-A6 so that DVD or DVR Transport Controls (PLAY, STOP, FF, REW, PAUSE, SKIP and RECORD) will also operate in other component modes on the remote control.

OSD (On-Screen Display) Control "Punch Through"

This "Punch Through" enables you to program the URC-A6 so that CBL or DVD OSD Controls (MENU, GUIDE, INFO, EXIT, SEL and 4 Cursor Controls) will also operate in other component modes on the remote control.

Learning Mode

This feature will allow you to literally teach the URC-A6 commands from other remote controls; when the remote is in learning mode, you can line the two remotes facing each other and transfer commands with just a few buttons presses. Press any button on the A6 remote that you want to teach a command to. For example, if you want to teach the MUTE button on the A6 remote the TV Mute command from the other remote, first press the MUTE button on the A6 remote and the TV component button LED light will blink once indicating that the A6 remote is ready to learn the command. This way, your remote is never obsolete--the URC-A6 grows with your home theater.

I got this remote "open box" at Best Buy for just $12! I was able to program it not just to operate my TV, cable box, DVD recorder and BluRay player, but also my AppleTV and Roku! The macro functions and punch-through volume controls make this the most convenient remote I could ask for!

Had an All-In-One universal learning that was working fine, UNTIL I had to get a new DVD player. Got a Pioneer model, and two critical features I need are the language and subtitle buttons because I watch a lot of foreign films. Well, the All-In-One learning mode was not able to learn these buttons from the Pioneer remote, after many many tries-- the light would just blink indicating it didn't take. Other things would learn fine on the All-In-One, but the lack of these two functions was a show-stopper.

I also need a learning remote because my TV device is not actually a TV, but a computer monitor with an off-brand Tuner module that allows me to take the comp vid or s-video out of a dvd player and put it on the monitor. Because it's an off brand there are no "codes" in any of the non-learning remotes that apply to it at all-- I have to use the learning mode in order to have a remote that has both the DVD player and things like Volume on the "TV".

So I ordered three different brand universal remotes on the assumption that at least one of them would be able to handle it.

First one that arrived was this one. One of the Pioneer codes worked right out of the box, except there is no language or subtitle buttons on the remote and none of the others seemed to work those functions. So I figured I'd have to see how it works in "learning" mode. There are 4 buttons in the middle of this remote for "favorite" functions, labelled A, B, C and D that you can program for anything (along with other buttons as well, but these are otherwise completely unused). So I set up A for language and B for subtitle and it "learned" instantly without a problem. I was then able to have it "learn" the volume buttons from my TV device, such that I don't even have to take the remote out of "DVD mode" and now all the DVD functions and the TV volume are on the remote as I wanted.

Great device, solidly built.

The only complaint I have is a minor nit-- the "transport" controls (play, rewind, ff, skip), etc., are not symbolic, but textual-- the word "pause" instead of the two little bars, the word "play" instead of the arrow, etc. I find the symbols easier to spot than the words, so I'd rather it was symbolic but otherwise it gets the job done.

The other two remotes I ordered were slow in coming, so I haven't gotten one yet and haven't had time to try the other, now low priority since this one is working for me fine.

It works for me exactly as advertised. Programming was not too difficult. The remote is sturdy enough to survive the occasional drop.
