3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but not that practical...., February 20, 2001
By
This review is from: Tiny Universal Waite Tarot (Cards)
I ordered the other Rider-Waite miniature deck a couple days ago, but I saw this deck today at a local occult shop, and just had to have it, because it's even smaller! It's very cute, and the colors in the Universal deck are much nicer than the original colors in the Rider-Waite, but this deck is simply too small to be practical. The cards are about the size of a postage stamp - 3.5cm by 2.1cm to be precise. Shuffling is almost impossible. I wouldn't try to give a serious reading with this deck. The deck I bought came in a little plastic box attached to a key ring. The box seems pretty sturdy and it probably would stand up to regular wear-and-tear if you decided to put it on your keychain. This is a fun deck if you are a collector, or tarot lover that wants a little conversation piece, or something to play with when you're stuck in a waiting room or something like that. However, if you are attempting to learn the tarot or want to read regularily with this deck, I suggest you get a bigger one.

I liked the idea of the other reviewer who said she was going to use them for a display. That sounds really neat, and I might get a second deck myself so I can do this. These would also be really nice for decoupage - perhaps even decoupaging a box to hold your real reading deck.

Overall, this is a cute little deck that I don't regret buying, though I doubt I'll get much practical use out of it. For the price, it's a fun little toy. (I paid more at the store I got mine from.) If you want a cute accessory, buy it. If you want a serious reading deck, keep searching.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but too small for my taste., February 3, 2002
This review is from: Tiny Universal Waite Tarot (Cards)
The deck is really cute - the universal Rider deck, faithful to the fully sized deck, but the size of a keyholder.

It makes for a lovely show & tell item, but is impractical for reading - such small cards are really hard to shuffle, arrange, and read.

The Rider deck is printed in five sizes - giant, regular, pocket, miniature, and tiny. The giant is good for classes, the regular and pocket are good for readings, while the tiny is good just for the curiosity factor.

It comes in a quality plastic box with a good small chain, so it can really serve as a keyholder.

3.0 out of 5 stars Did not come with keychain, January 16, 2006

This review is from: Tiny Universal Waite Tarot (Cards)
The previous reviews of this item are appropriately descriptive, and communicate the pros and cons of a deck this size very well. As a novelty, it's great. As a working deck, it's poor. I won't add to that, as it's been covered in other reviews.

What moved me to write a review is that apparently the packaging for the deck is inconsistent. Many reviewers have written about receiving their little deck with a plastic case on a keychain. My deck did not come with such a plastic case. In fact, the case mine came in was made of very thin cardboard and was crumpled. If you care about such things--and I do--there is the potential for disappointment, here. The cards were in great condition, to be clear, but the cardboard case was not.
