Book Description

June 1998 0890069581 978-0890069585
Written by a leading authority in the communications industry, this single-source reference provides in-depth understanding of the fundamental and advanced principles behind the development of a global personal communication system capable of providing convenient multimedia communications to individuals in every corner of the world. The book explores the behaviour of macro-, pico-satellite- and overlay-cellular systems and gives the reader the knowledge needed sucessfully to address related transmission system issues and problems. Introductory chapters review statistical radio channel modes, present mathematical and analytical models for evaluating co-channel interference probability, discuss multiple and random access protocols, identify and describe a wide range of CDMA systems, and much more. More advanced, solution-oriented sections cover OFDM system applications, analyze MC-CDMA in a wireless environment, outline basic antenna system and diversity schemes, and present an analytical model used to evaluate bit-error probability. The reader also gains a solid understanding of the theory and applications associated with wireless broadband multimedia communications (WBMC) and satellite communications (SATCOM).

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the top readings in ''wireless'' literature, March 30, 2000
This review is from: Universal Wireless Personal Communications (Artech House Mobile Communications Series) (Hardcover)
This book covers the field of wireless communications by providing both the theoretical and practical aspect of the subject. It is well written and understandable, but at the same time offers a great deal of detail for the in depth comprehension of the presented material. It is suitable for the engineer, the researcher and the student too.
